  Handicapped people can't be saved !

  the mentally and physically handicapped aren't abundant in the kingdom halls.

  if the jw religion is the only one that saves, then mentally and physically handicapped won't be saved.

  wouldn't it be right to see more handicapped people, if indeed they have the truth?

  I'm not sure what gives you that idea. Severely disabled people are always in the minority in any group. I've known people in the organization with a variety of disabilities who were respected just as much as anyone else, even a MS who was one of the most active members of the congregation despite being in a wheelchair.

  Besides, look at any WT illustration that depicts the aftermath of Armageddon, and you'll see people throwing away crutches and white canes, leaping out of wheelchairs...

  (I have to admit though, I was never quite sure about those with very severe mental disabilities. I just figured God didn't have to follow the WT's salvation criteria to the letter, and would do the right thing when the time came.)

  Where Does the $$ Come From??

  many, many people have lengthy recollections of getting nowhere in field service.. no bible studies, not much placement of magazines or books, especially not for significant cash.. so where is the wts getting all their money from?.

  i've been wondering..... are (and were) dubs expected to purchase a certain amount of materials every month and then just take on the responsibility of getting rid of it (and getting back their money) themselves?.

  if so, you know what that would mean.... it would mean that the wts's millions mostly come from their own 'flock'.

  Geez, Ed.

  So they really are just cleaning out the pockets of the dubs, and also expecting them to bring in more when they get money for the literature. How can dubs be so stupid - oh, that's right, they're not allowed to talk to one another, are they?

  They only brought that system in recently here in Oz (about 3 or 4 years ago). Prior to that, publishers would pay for the literature at the counter, and then collect that same amount from the householder, so if they placed everything they broke even. I seem to recall there were a few raised eyebrows when the announcement was made that ALL money would now go to the WTS.

  They explained that they were not double-dipping because the first donation was for the literature itself, but the second donation was for "the world-wide preaching work". Two entirely different things, apparently.

  As for how many mags per month... it really depends how righteous the publisher is. Spiritually mature ones who have a close personal relationship with God might place 12 - 24 per month, while ungodly heathens destined for the everlasting flames of Gehenna might only use 2 or 3.

  Clearing the Laundromat of Propaganda

  well, today was 'wash day' at the laundromat.

  it is also the time that i rid the laundromat of the propaganda that seems to collect there.. you know what i mean.

  it seems to be a collection point for watchtower and awakes that jws seem to want to leave there.. today, i hit the jackpot!

  Yes, but they don't get their money back. At least, that's how it was here in Australia when I left a couple of years ago (they may have changed things since). Publishers were expected to make a donation for the literature when they picked it up, then try to get another donation from the householder which also had to go to the WTS !

  after all the years of having it drilled in my head that demons could attach themselves to an object i now wonder: is that just more jw bull****?

  am i still reacting to the years of brainwashing or is there really a concern about what one brings into their home?.

  anybody have any thoughts on this????

  I can't say whether it's BS or not, but the idea didn't originate with the JWs. As long as people have believed in spirits, they have connected them with physical objects. The genie in the lamp, and all that.

  i know you know what i'm talking about.. what was the funniest comment you heard from the audience during a study where the brother or sister used their comment as as platform to counsel the elders..

  I didn't personally witness this, I only heard about it from the guy who was at the centre of it all...

  An elder I knew was falsely accused by the other elders of some sort of misconduct and removed from his position. Everyone in the congregation knew it was a conspiracy and that he had been set up, and they were not happy. So as a form of non-violent protest, for the next few weeks not one person put their hand up during the WT study. The WT reader would read the paragraph, the elder conducting the study would ask the question, and then... nothing. "Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?"

  The elders got the message pretty quickly and dropped the accusations.

  True story.

  The Emblems

  one thing that used to really boggle my mind were the emblems at the memorial.

  i thought it would be much more sacred than going out to the grocery store and buying a box of passover crackers sitting right next to the vegetable thins.. i wondered why the wts never baked the crackers and brewed the wine themselves, instead of letting a worldly company do it for them.

  worldly companies are dishonest, and there could be additives and all that other good stuff in the emblems.

  I remember once hearing a brother reading out a letter from the Society advising the congregation that it was not okay to use Coca Cola instead of wine. So there you go, they do have their standards.

  well that's the reason why they shun people.

  they think you'll go back if you're shunned.

  I'd say it's more like a deterrent to keep the remaining members in line.
