i was just reading comments on jwservey, about a scandal involving the bethel in the czech republic.

i have been visiting apostate sites now for about 18 months, and i have never heard about this.

apparently there was dirty money been used in the financing of the bethel, and there was some other shadey goings on.

In my countrry - Czech republic:

Two brothers estabilished an investment fund (early 90´s , during post communist economical chaos), ripped off thousands of people of their money, using this stolen money purchased a building and donated it to czech bethel. Now it is used as a czech branch office. These brothers got very wealthy on this fraud, purchased a several real estate properties, one of them was used as a "pioneer school". Never were DF, for a long time they were an example of how a wealthy brother can be spiritualy mature...

No kidding, serious stuff. After all this was revealed on czech TV (2002) zone overseer came over and deleted 3 out of 4 branch coordinators.

I was just reading comments on JWServey, about a scandal involving the Bethel in the Czech Republic. I have been visiting apostate sites now for about 18 months, and I have never heard about this. Apparently there was dirty money been used in the financing of the bethel, and there was some other shadey goings on. Apparently it was quite commonly known amongst the R&F at the time. And it all ended up with it been in the papers, and then Brooklyn got involved. I'm just wanting to know more, as I cant seem to find any information either in here or on google. So information please e.g names, places, and links to documented proof, of what happened. Oh and eye witness accounts would also be good as well.

Anticipating future changes in the organisation - crystal ball gazing

i posted the comment below on another thread on elders stepping down.

although i left the jw's years ago, i still hold a fascination for the evolution of the religion and am curious on what future trends and developments may occur.

so i thought i would start a thread on what future changes you think will occur in the organisation as the years go by, either doctrinally or organisationally:.

With the the two live internet streams (e.g AGM & Zone visit) in very short succession, i have wondered if the meetings will become more televised, as it becomes increasingly harder to get elders.

As paper becomes less popular, and more expensive I suspect a more digital format in 1st world countries, while still printing for developing or 3rd world countries.

Because they are getting a hammering with the internet. They will be forced to make this another avenue of the preaching work. They just have to get a more +ve fibe on the internet! and drown out the voices of places like this.

I don't think they will drop the 1914/ blood/ 144K thing in one big hit. They are aware of how hard they got hit with the generation teaching, so they will opt to gradually faze it out, and hope no one remembers e.g I remember back in the day when they would have a meeting when the blood cards would be issued, and I can't remember one lately. I think you just go and get one privately off an elder now.

Drop the world wide report as this opens them up to further scrutiny.

Unless they do something pretty stupid my bet is on a leveling off on growth, rather than a mass exodus e.g people coming and going.

I have come to realize it won't be until they are backed up against a wall, or the situation becomes so bad with people leaving that they will change. This will be the only thing that will do it.

something similar happened a couple months ago in nevada.

ok here is another spin on the wt verses the internet argument, and this time i'm going to be pro-wt.

i have read articles and seen graphs that show in countries that have high internet penetration, growth rates diminish.

this is used to support the idea that the information age is killing the wt.

Is the watchtower worried about the effect of the internet. It would be silly to suggest that the wouldn't be. But what I am saying is that to use a graph to suggest in countries that have high internet use is the sole factor is just been short sighted. I don't know if anyone has done this but I would be willing to bet if a graph was drawn to show the relationship between wealth and Wt growth,it would look very similar to the internet one. BTW I was using the example of "There is never an atheist in the trenches" to show when the chips are down this can creat an opportunity for religious movements.

I noticed for a while that the topics started icon was missing, so hence I couldn't start a topic. Frustrating, but suddenly it has re-appeared again. Either it was there all along, and I just didnt see it, or know how to use it. I don't know.

I have read articles and seen graphs that show in countries that have high internet penetration, growth rates diminish. This is used to support the idea that the information age is killing the Wt. I think this is only looking at part of the story. I live in a country that fits the above description so I feel I can comment. Generally speaking countries with high internet use, are usually wealthier, more politically stable, have better access to medical care, better educated etc. These factors deminish the need for religion. For example when things are going well in ones life why look for something better and on the other hand "you will never find an atheist in the trenches". Even the bible admits that generally the wealthy wouldn't be interested in God. In the area where I live most arnt interested in religion e.g you don't see a lot of teenagers going to the Catholic Church. Is the internet killing the Wt???? It could be. But to not consider these other factors is just been short sighted.
