KINGDOM HALL IN SHANNON NEW ZEALAND LIES TIDY BUT EMPTY?!!
by steve2 inthere's a kingdom hall in shannon, a small rural town in manawatu, new zealand, 16 kms from the nearest town, foxton, and about 30 kms from palmerston north city (population around 80,000).
jws used to go on about how fast they were growing in new zealand that even a small town like shannon (population little more than 1,000) has its very own kingdom hall.
in the late 70s, the local jws worked hard to build a brand new kingdom hall and i was among the happy throngs when it was dedicated.

If all ''faders'' abruptly left the Watchtower and made no effort to hide the reasons why, what affect, if any, do you think it would make on the congregations?
by ThomasCovenant inwhen you're part of a lovely big group of people who all seem to be happy in their beliefs, it's easier to quell your own doubts.
if i was the only person left in the congregation who still went on the door to door work, because every body else had stopped going , having said out loud what most think, ''it's a waste of time'', how long do you think before i too would cease going door to door?.
i know from my own perspective that having lots of fellow witnesses around me, steered me into making life changing decisions.

I certainly can understand what you are saying. I can think of some prominent ones in the congregation e.g elders, bethelites etc, who for no apparent reason just stopped coming to the meetings. At the time I remember putting this down to losing sight of the prize of the Christian race, but now that I know TTATT I have wondered if their silent fading was perhaps a bit more premeditated and planned. Another very good example I can think of was of this young couple who were bible students. Middle of the road people e.g middle income, wernt down and outers etc, who were genuinely nice and sincere, and wanted a relationship with God. I remember talking to them after the meeting one day and they told me that they were going to have a talk with a religious relative about the things they were learning at the Hall. Obviously he had shown them what was on the internet and I never saw them after that. Go figure I guess.

Old Rutherford vinyl records...
by Sam87 inmy mother found some old jw records a couple of months ago, they apparently were what the dubs used to use when they were witnessing, theyd go out with a record player and play these records to people to preach to them.. just wondering if anyone else has any of these?
im guessing theres probly not that many of them around, i think i have about 6 or so of them and they are quite old, (im at work at the moment so i cant really tell you any more about them) i was thinking that i mite sell them on ebay, maybe ill get a bit of cash for them.. .

Gee what a find. It would be interesting to know what they would be worth. To the right person they could be worth a lot. I would keep them for historical purposes. You would be right there wouldn't be to many around, as I have never seen one.

Some JWs overseas use a false name to evade the authorities. Is this a common practice?
by dropoffyourkeylee ini had posted this a few days ago and got no response, then i realized i had messed up the title, so here goes again;.
i have learned from a credible source that jws from the us have recently gone to morocco to witness, where the work is under ban, and while living there have lived under assumed names.
this is (according to my source) under the direction of the branch (i'm not sure which branch it would be, but i would guess france).

I remember reading an article on jwservey about a missionary in China, and how the society instructed her to behave, and in fact it was the exact opposite to how we are told to do it in western countries e.g make friends with worldly people and infiltrate them. I found the article very insightfull. In light of this it wouldn't surprise me about the Moroccan thing.

Dirty money involved for Czech bethel.
by joe134cd ini was just reading comments on jwservey, about a scandal involving the bethel in the czech republic.
i have been visiting apostate sites now for about 18 months, and i have never heard about this.
apparently there was dirty money been used in the financing of the bethel, and there was some other shadey goings on.

I thought I could do the mental switch off, because it was easier to go along with it than to rock the boat. Now I realise I can't. Have been inactive for a couple of months.
