Russell's followers in British Columbia?

so i was interviewing a guy for a podcast episode today and he went and saw his grandmother over christmas to gather some history.

he wasn't raised a jw but it turns out his family was actually opposed to the jws because they went all the way back to russell.

according to him (from her stories), they refused to follow rutherford and that's where the split took place.

i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.

i know there are several posts about witnesses and non-witnesses in regards to relationships.

i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.

earlier this year, i became friends with someone on a video game.

Almost everyone here will advise you against doing this, and for good reason. Most posters have spent decades in the religion, so we know the culture well, and our advise is well founded. I myself walked away after 40 years in the religion. Therefore, I’d like to think I know what I’m are talking about. There is a question I have for you, that may help you see things differently. Why did you choose to come and express your concerns to a group of anonymous posters, rather than talking directly to your boyfriend or his parents? You could of also gone to the local Kingdom Hall and enquired there as well. Yet you choose not to. Don’t you think this unusual considering you spend so much time communicating on the phone?

hi i haven't posted for a while but i have a question and would appreciate any advice offered.

i left the cult 2 years ago and i'm so happy now.

i struggled at first and with the help of the lovely men and women on here i got stronger and started to find myself and ive grown as a person (i'm not being told who i am or who i should be anymore).

Take comfort I knowing that statistically only 1/3 children born into the religion will remain in it as adults. Odds are certainly in your favour.

The Craziness of an Average Bible Study

last week i posted a thread asking about who knew any "real anointed" and got some cracking replies.. that got me to thinking, as someone brought up in the 70's and 80's in the watchtower religion, my experience of bible studeis in their homes and those who made it to the hall were mostly batshit crazy or at least people with some serious quirks.. i'll relate a few, none of whose names i remember with any clarity.. in our cong we had an older couple who were from london, but who had been in the 1950's in the circuit work in the mid west usa.

they brought along some woman one night they had started a study with who told everyone cheerfully she was a recovering alcoholic and this was her cure (coming to the meetings).

this went on for a few weeks until one night they brought her to the memorial and she was royally pissed, and i mean barely able to stand; and went up to the platform table and necked some wine.

This highlights what's been stated here. There were a couple who started attending meetings after been contacted in the door to door ministry. In their 30s, upper middle class. He owned his own construction business, while the wife was a team leader in a government department. These were a lovely couple that any organisation would of been proud to had. Needless say, looking back, I wonder what attracted them to the JWs. Anyway, after a couple of months they told me one night that they were going to visit a cousin and tell him what they were learning in the hall, of which I never saw them again after that. After I left the JWs I happened to see this couple in the street, so I asked them as to what stopped them attending meetings. Turns out they did visit their cousin who google searched the JWs, and the rest is history. Game over. In my experience anyone with any brains never stays, and for good reason.

local, strange jw thinking

i was reading today that the last star wars movie will be playing next week.

doing a little searching, i found that there have been 12 movies in the saga total, ( box office, total (12 films): $9.323 billion.)..

it got me thinking about when the empire strikes back came out, it was the second movie ( 1980).

I remember as a young kid discussing, with another young kid at the KH, about the return of the Jedi film I had just seen at the cinema. His pompous, pious, prat of an elder dad told me off in front of the others. Saying that they weren’t going to see it because it had the word “war” in it, and jehovah hated violence. What a total wanker.

i'm a first time poster and i apologize if this topic has been discussed before.

when i met my wife she was disfellowshiped and were happy, got married, and had a kid.

after we had our daughter she got reinstated so her family and her jw "friends" could spend time with our daughter.

From the numerous people who have turned up here seeking advise on a similar situation, it almost never ends well.

However, you can take comfort that only 1/3 children born into the religion will remain in it as adults. So those are odds in your favour.

as much as i enjoy you and pete's company, you also know our understanding of how much we want you to be reunited with jehovah and his people.. .

we did not set the standards for what jehovah says about our associations with those who choose to not serve him.

so we will always be there for you and pete, but it is in your hands as to how we can enjoy your friendship.. .

You should show her that lawyer they got in Canada who under oath said that close family ties are not affected when one leaves the JWs.

i am so sick of this cult, this religion has such a grip on her.

since i left in 2014, things just are getting progressively worse.

and she it's just getting deeper and deeper.

Just as a side point. It’s encouraging to see ,that despite our differing opinions, apostates still advising to keep a relationship together. You would think it would be the other way around, with people who hate the religion, encouraging quite the opposite.

You could imagine how much more heart breaking and confusing this situation would be for someone, with limited knowledge and experience on this religion, finding that their partner is a POMI JW. In fact these individuals usually turn up here seeking answers.

Anyway, a pat on the back to everyone here for their good advise and loving support.
