Apostate Hunter?
by Lost in the fog inhas anyone heard of this jw guy?.
apparently he writes a weekly (weakly?
) blog as well as having written this book where he claims he disses the claims of "apostates".. to know what apostates are saying he has to be engaging with them or tuning into websites like this one, contravening the gb's direction not to do so.

“Hanging the earth upon nothing”
by FFGhost infor those of you not up to speed on the latest jw trends, one of the key scriptures the jws are using in field serve-us lately is job 26:7, wherein the writer describes the earth as “hanging upon nothing”.. this text is used to indicate the bible’s “reliability”.
the reasoning goes something like this:.
“see, centuries ago, people thought the world was flat, or was resting on elephants or turtles, or some such nonsense.

Waton. In a way having two laws from different time periods, and peoples. Would testify that the events in Genises were accurate history. Why? Because their neighbours, the Chaldean’s, we’re having much the same problems. Although the bible is not primarily a science manual it does however stands out as unique, as it mentions things that were not known at the time. Even if it says it had 4 corners in one part and round in another. One has to ask how did Isiah know it was round. He stated so because he was talking literally and in the book of reverlation its talking symbolically. “Let the reader use discernment.” -

Pracefulpete: you raise some very good points. I was aware of the time frame between the 2 laws. Interestingly, a counter argument to the uncanny parallels between the 2 laws could be explained this way. They were similar because humanity has always faced the same problems. So of course there had to be laws to counter antisocial behaviour, and consequences for transgressors. I guess the same claim could be made today, that the U.S constitution has been plagiarised from the mosaic law. to a point it has. Hence laws on sewage disposal, quarantine, corporal punishment are still relevant today. Really over the course of 6000 years human nature still remains the same. Solomon wisely said man has brought man to his injury, so there has to be procedures put in place to minimise, or litigate this.

JWisim aside. The bible is unique in many aspects. It stands alone as different from other writings at the time. For example the code of Hammurabi, which is considered to precede that of the Torah, has lead critics to say that the Torah was merely a copy from the Babylonian empire. However, what sets it apart is that the code of Hammurabi dosnt touch on matters of science. For example, health and safety regulations, work place compensation, horticultural practices, which was unknown at the time. Are mentioned in the bible, and are still relevant today.

Yes I agree. I’m so glad it wasn’t done by some disgruntled apostate. Wt would have had a field day over it.

No funeral
by road to nowhere ini have run across another jw death where the final wishes are for no service.
3rd or 4th instance.
another wanted a celebration of life which the elders squelched as far as i know.

I’ll certainly give credit where it’s due. Surprisingly my JW grandfathers funeral was a delight. One of my unbelieving uncles requested that the service not be too religious, and the elder doing it abliged. I would say the mix was about 50/50. Which I thought was fair as JWisim played such a big part in his life. It was truly a delight, and I commented that to the elder who gave the talk. There was lots of food and laughing, all supplied by the congregation, and it was a chance to catch up with all the ones I hadn’t seen in years. I’d give it a 10/10. -

Had to laugh.
by Lost in the fog ini had to laugh.. i bumped into a friend who has started going back to the meetings and who has that enthusiastic arm-waving way of talking about the stuff they're hearing from the platform.. in part he's wittering on about some talk they'd had about king david and all of his ups and downs.
and says, "and as the speaker emphasized over and over again, we can imitate david because he was a man just like ourselves.".
" i finally interrupted.. that shut him up.

King David great grandmother was a Moabite called Ruth. She wasn’t Jewish. Try doing that in JWland and see how far you’ll get.

Another congregation closed
by hoser in15 years ago there were 5 congregations now there is only one and it is still struggling.
congregations closing their doors doesn’t mean business is good.
it looks like this last one to fold had no young witnesses, they either left the religion or moved.

The Jehovah's Witness religion has gone for good !!!
by snare&racket ini am not sure how you all feel as we all left at different times for different reasons.... but this new bible seems to have put some final nails into a coffin that was once my jw life.
the religion is so far and so different to the religion i grew up in that it has become something i feel no affiliation with anymore, no bond, no shared ideas or even sentimental views.
different teachings on when the end is coming.
