Is Bob Wallen from the Alliance NE area? An Elder I once knew from Alliance mentioned Bob Wallen from time to time, as if he was a local. Just curious.

I think I am having a sort of mid-life crises. The other night I began to wonder who were the people that influenced me the most in a postitive manner, making me who I am today.
1.) My third grade teacher. She taught me many life lessons. She seen the positive in all her students no matter how dim or hard to handle they were. She taught me penmanship, that is in itself is a lost art.
2.) My Dad showed me how to make a living inspite of the challenges that get in the way. He wore an artifical leg above the knee for the last 35 years of his 75. He made a good living in a very physical occupation. He wore out many artificial legs!
3.) My wife has showed me what unconditional love really is.
How about you? It is a good thing to focus on the positive or, maybe some negative if it has made you a better person. This does not have to be about being or not being a JW. Want to share?

Did being a JW make you feel speical like you were part of something??
by karter inthe chosen ones perhaps?
for me it felt like we had a monopoly on the truth everyone else was wrong and we could prove it we were part of something special.
i guess felling you belong is a basic human need.

I hear you. Yes, it seemed like at the time when I was new in the lie, it was a special time, a time to belong to an exclusive club that had all right answers. I was a young brainless shit head! About two years later I felt like something was wrong with the Witnesses. I continuing on out of shear blind loyalty for another 20 years. What in the hell was I thinking? I still can not believe that so many witnesses that I know that are good friends, and many family members are still going forward or backward whatever it may be in the lie....Just like I wanted to help everyone become a witness, now I want to see them come their senses and abandon the lie! It just crazy!

RECENT REVISIONS TO THE KH DRESS CODE?
by navytownroger ini was told by my former book-study conductor recently that a new 'dress code' had been handed down by the wts, because people had been 'getting too casual' with their styles of clothing.
one item he mentioed was a new rule for women prohibiting denim skirts.
and, when a woman wore a denim jacket, she was also told this was not appropriate for the kh.

I wonder if they show newly interested persons these pictures right up front and honest? I wonder if this dress standard in in the baptismal contract?

feel like I've walked into a tar pit
by lancelink inaround three years ago my wife started to invite the mormon missionaries in, and have discussions with them.
this went on for several months, then the get together s started to be 2-3 times a week.
i would work late because i wanted .

Yeah, its a tar pit for sure. I would be real uneasy if mormons were meeting privately with a family member and espessially the spouse. No advice. I am just going to pray for you and your wife. Goodnight.

What Draws Out The Lurker/Newbies
by Not Feeling It ini'm sure this has been discussed.
i was wondering what attracts a lurker/n00b to post for the first time.
i made my first post in someone else's thread eschewing the "hi, i'm new" thing.. for anyone, particularly the lurkers/noobies:.

I had to go back to my first post in 2002 to see what "drawed me out" I was miffed that the local congregation was trying their damnest to ignore me.....I should have left things well enough alone....
I have then returned to lurking for almost 2 years until this last spring. I was busy and forgot that I was ever was a witness....go figure, forgot!!
I can look back now and not be so angry at the wasted life energy that was taken from me by the WT.
I feel for some that post here as they struggle to wiggle loose from the bonds of the WT. So I came back and mostly post on issues that I feel I might bring them some comfort in some small way.

Lurker for a long time, finally decided to take the plunge!
by Momma-Tossed-Me ini say this because i have been helped so much by the many posts that represent the way i feel about the wtbts.
it is good to know that there are so many people that feel this way.
i am currently inactive and dont comment but do attend meetings for the sake of the family.. my wife is still in and i have a daughter and one on the way.

So, why do you really hate the Roman Catholic Church?
by StAnn inthis is actually a serious question.. when i was a jw, i was taught all kinds of things about how horrible the rcc is.
i believed it.
many years after leaving the wts, i began looking into the rcc for myself and discovered that everything i had been told about the rcc by the wts was a lie.

I don't hate the Catholic Church.
When I was coming into the JW thing, the book used on me was the Truth Book....I don't even have a copy anymore. I think the use of the cross, pagan traditions etc., made the Catholic's look pretty bad from the view of the Watchtower. In my opinion, taking the WT teachings out of the picture, Catholic's are not all that bad. I know many very good people that are Catholic's.
Maybe the folks that "hate" it, are having other issues of "hate" as well.

This has nothing to do with religion....at least I don't think so. I was a city council person for a couple of years a while back. We were trying to clean up the old junker cars in town according to the city ordinance. One lady owned a ranch just outside of town about five miles out. She also owned a property, a corner lot on main street in town. She and her dad owned about 10 old cars and trucks that were junk and keeping them on this corner lot. She came to the council meeting to protest having to clean up the mess. The Mayor ask her if she could just have them towed to her ranch....she said: "Why would we do that? we don't want to junk up the ranch!"
