  What do you think ?

  i know many like myself have had alot of different experiances and have met many different people since leaving the jw's.my question is do you think you knew or found people to be more intelligent in the organization or have you found people to be more stimulating and intelligent outside the organization, setting aside the fact that the people in the organization are apart of it?

  i'm just curious as to peoples experiances.

  I have to agree with email and LuckyLucy, with the exeption of the disagreeing with email.

  I consider myself to be a very intelligent person and that is why I decided to leave. The first wall I hit on my way out though was trying to convince myself that, yes, dubs are the true religion. That alone kept me there for another 2 years. I had trouble with many issued but looked the other way.

  After I decided that the dubs dont have it right, the next wall I hit was how my leaving would affect my family. This kept me in for another year until I decided that they will have to just deal with my leaving.

  There are many intelligent people, but even smart people can be fooled.

  Time travel- if you could...would you?

  i was recently looking at a picture that showed my city almost a hundred years ago.

  i started trying to imagine the scene, but in color, and what it would have been like.. they say if time travel was possible, you must be careful, for what you do could alter the future.. though i know it is not possible, i think it would be fantastic to do so.. so, would you do it if you could?

  what time era would you go to?.

  I would without a doubt. I would go live around 1940. LOVE that time period. I would go see Cab Calloway, Louis Prima, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Ella Fitzgerald live. I would be driving around in a Ford Tudor Coupe. Ever guy wearing a suit and hat when going out, because it was the proper thing to do.

  I would also have a chance to be one hell of an apostate since the Witnesses were a much smaller group at that time.

  looking after dying jw

  part of my job involves palliative care - and tonight i was looking after a dying jw man - awakes, nwt bible and the rest around the room of course.

  after feeding, washing, consoling, giving drinks, turning etc (you get the picture), i thought 'none of my colleagues are jws or even religious, but they are the ones here.

  i'll post again tomorrow, he may not be alive i suppose - but i can say that i haven't seen family about, let alone any "brothers/sisters" about to feed or console - i just see a scared and alone person - and thank goodness we're not all jws.

  Churchaphobia Returns

  two weeks ago my wife informed me that the local unitaran universalists wanted me to speak at their church service which is only two blocks from our house.

  she failed to tell me they had originally asked her and she passed the buck, but alas, wiley as she is i agreed to it then heard the "rest of the story".

  so last sunday i decided i would case the joint by attending their sunday service which was a great talk about the black tenor, paul roberson.

  Because of my experiances with the dubs, I can never be a part of any religion that claims to be "christian". I have the same hangups as you do. I do not like all the rituals that take place in christian religions.

  I went a few times to mass with my x girl. It bugged me to no end that they would chant the same things over and over again. Also all the standing, kneeling, sitting, kneeling, standing, kneeling. A true god cannot take pleasure in this.

  I am currently looking into non christian alternatives to find my answers.

  Do YOU answer the door now?

  when i left the org the elders would come by at the most inopportune time at least every day sometimes twice.

  i never answered the door, i just continued doing whatever it was i was doing and ignored the pounding at the door knowing it ticked them off because they knew i was home.

  when the witnesses randomly come to my door now i still don't answer but have thought about it just to give them hell.
