i just wanted to chime in as a loving atheist father, divorced to a jw, and what plays as far as educating our children.. we have shared custody but the kids are mainly with their mom - 11 and 14 respectively.. the problem i face is keeping a balance for my children.
i have turned atheist during our marriage, so my ex didn't have the spiritual support she signed up for anymore.
i can understand it is not easy.
just Read your posts...congratulations, you are wise and feel no ressentment or hate , even with the expériences and divorce provoked by the WT...
I admire you for that...
"one of the bible study was listening and singing the song by jason mraz titled lucky with the chorus going like this;.
quote.
'i'm lucky i'm in love with my best friend.. lucky to have been where i have been.. lucky to be coming home again.. lucky we're in love in every way.. lucky to have stayed where we have stayed.. lucky to be coming home someday..'.
As a JW you are noT allowed to say "I swear to you" ("je te jure" in french).
Also do noT dare say "to be an elder or a ministerial servant is a complète waste of time"...just did it yesterday to he wife, she got in shock!!!
Same thing with "I hâte preaching and fieldservice, it's useless, makes me feel just like being a salesman"...
dont ask me why but my dad recited to me a wonderful experience out of the blue.
he never talks jw to me so not sure where it came from.
an american brother came over to the uk who was a great great great grandson of a pastor who was friends with charles russell.
KH are full of urban legends that most JW will believe and report as perfectly real without asking where this is coming from...
but they Will all laugh at the face of people who believe in "saints" miracle in Lourdes for example...
Hi
As expresses by Many people here, only you know what your wife is most likely to do if you tell her what you feel.
sometimes i feel just like you, sad and depressed because of this. Sorry there is no "right answer" for your situation...but don't give up hope, even if it is a long journey...
background: my wife and i are inactive, we stopped attending in 2005. raised as jws, were pioneers, i was elder etc... .
our kids are in college, also inactive but are baptised.
my wife went back to college, getting her degree this month at age 48!
hi
I was shocked by this letter, but not surprised. this is the way of the more fanatics JW, even if they are not all like this.
You could choose to ignore this letter , but this would be giving them the impression that you are wiling to cut ties with them, just like it is written in some Watchtower magazines. instead , as many people here told, you could Reply back with a gentle letter, saying that:
1) this décision is very sad and shows no love at all, given the fact that it is not a proof of love to disassociate and not even wanting to see people from family just because they choose to think differently. Ask her how she would react if situation were reversed, and if a catholic or a muslim people chose to disassociate from a member of family because he chose to become a JW...then put the extract saying that No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family." (Awake! 2009 July p.29).
2) you are not willing to be as robotic as her, so you Will respect her décision and Will not be imposing your presence to her at any family event, or any other occasion, if it is zuch a torture for them to see you,but you Will never stop to love them so if one day they change their mine they Will always be welcome .also you wil be there for them if they need you for anything, they just have to give you a call.
I hope you and your family Will be ok...
my son grew up with one of the young brothers in the kingdom and after graduation both him and my son left the kh.
the young man who left the hall fell into the wrong crowd and i mean a really dangerous crowd and as a result of him getting involved in illegal activity he was murdered.
i really feel for this young man, because he was a decent kid.
I feel sorry for this event.
had the same thing for my grandma's funeral. The guy who did the speach did not even knew her, so 10 minutes before the begining he came in a Hurry and asked what was her name, name of her husband, how long were they married and when she got baptised. And, he used this information in the 1st phrase of his speach, then out he was for 30 minutes of WT commercial... This was a "joke" of funeral, but everyone in the family (but me) was waiting for this and took comfort that grandma's funeral was a "Christian" one...
maybe the boy's mother was like this.she needed something to be that way.
it is very sad though...
in most healthy societies people are allowed to do naughty things without feelings of guilt.. .
what naughty things can jws do?.
my naughtiest moment was rounding up 55mins to an hr in my ministry!
Well anything? Not so sûre but yes the point is not to be caught by elders, or even if you do not do some "wrong" things in a JW point of view, not make other JW feel that you are free
hi all.. i'm a newbie from paris, france.
so please forgive my english grammar, it might be some times...improper.
27, got baptised at 16 (for a girl...i never had).
they can use whatever they want to play the "spiritual danger" card and get some people to leave their spouse...or they seperate couples when 1 wants to study with JW and not the other....I've seen their reaction to such situation:for them the split up is a blessing....
