it is in all DC and RC i confirm that, and seems in all countries also. Here in France i've been hearing those "introductions" by number of years to pioneer for almost 10 years at least. But i remember there was a time when the speaker did not introduce talks that way...

District Convention
by thedog1 indon't know if this has been covered before, but who noticed that at every talk at the district convention (mine anyway), every speaker was introduced by name and then 'brother x has been serving for 25 years as a pioneer" or "he has served on the branch committee" etc etc.. what is it with these credentials?
i've been an elder on and off for most of the last twenty years.
big deal.

The elders are 'letting me fade'
by TableForOne ini attended my last meeting in january 2014, having realised that i'd been lied to for 20+ years (i'm now 43 y/o).
rumours spread of my 'apostasy'.. in may, cobe contacted me inviting me to a private meeting with elders at the kh.
(no mention of the meeting being a jc).

Good Job. Really sad that your wife spread the "apostate" reputation, as this is not a "quiet" fade, so sooner or later you Will hear again from elders and not for the greater good i fear. May i ask how are things with your wife? Is she always hard on you or was it just a one shot distress phase?
Navy Town, the "nothing to Say" is an excellent way of having peace for people like me who still go to JW meetings (and sometimes in field circus) for wifi and family reasons.i already experimented it....funny thing is that, no matter how poor my field report is (2-4 jours every month at most) and how silent i keep at the meetings, they gave me some n°3 parts last month at the MS. Sometimes those guys really don't get it...

International Convention...Same Message, Same Emotional Manipulation
by HeyThere inwell, of course nothing else would be expected, but it passes me off.. for example, they show this short video that shows a child dying, shows her father crying as he visits her grave...and then she is reunited with her family in "the new system" and then it shows a handicapped girl who is sad she can't ice skate with friends...fast forward to tns, she can skate!!!
then an elderly couple is shown happily young again.... .
and of course the end is "so close!

Dinosaurs.
by bobert inas a jw i always believed that dinosaurs at one point existed.
my whole family did, almost all the jws i knew did.
one time i was out for dinner, and one of the people with us was convinced that they never existed.
-
sylvlef
as a JW child i loved dinosaurs and always wondered why the loving god killed them.
Answers of my parents: "we don't know, there's no answers in the publications"...
But no denial of the dinosaurs existence...it's a Start...

Relationship with Jehovah?
by Batman89 inwhen you were a devout jw.
did you feel that you had an actual "relationship" with jehovah/god just from praying to him and reading the wt or bible?.
or that this was actually even possible deep down?.
-
sylvlef
No kind of relationship at all...
i prayed every Day when i was a child. When teenage came, i was kind of bored by the "pray all the time thing" and quit the habbit.
i stayed a Nice little JW for years after That though...

Anyone going to the memorial this year?
by Pyramid God ini was invited by my parents, and even though i have nothing but contempt for this religion, things have been good in our relationship so i was considering going just to appease them.

At what point did you destroy your Blood card?
by BU2B ini know for me it was soon after lurking here for awhile and reading some threads on the issue.
i remenber when i tore it into little tiny pieces.
it felt so liberating..

sylvlef
I tore mine to pièces about 6months ago and put it into my job's trash can...then came the meeting where they give new version becaus the old cards were legally expired or something like that, and my wife insisted That i should have one and forced it into my jacket Pocket..."unfortunately" a couple of days later i wore the very same jacket to ride my motorcycle, and encountered a good rain...card was useless after That hahaha! Ways of the Lord hey?

For those who are still IN and attending meetings, do you still study the WT & other books?
by ohnightdivine infor those of you who are still attending meetings due to various reasons, how do you prepare yourself for each program?.
do you still read and study the wt?.
do you still read and study the okm, jeremiah, etc?.
-
sylvlef
even when was mentally in i did noT like to study ad Prepare the meetings. now do noT open the WT material before the meetings, and when i am in the KH i let my mind "drift" far far away...
Sometimes however my wife insists on doing the wt study with me...I avoid this as much as possible but in order to soften things a little i do it with her.Only reading the paragraphs, reading the question and then reading the phrase linked to the question.no highlighting, no taking bible . I thought this wouuld bore her but she still says "i'm happy to Prepare my study with you"! amazing...

Why do you still go to meetings?
by Aroq ini'm asking this because there are a few on this site who do not agree with the wt or gb, but yet still go to meetings.. .
why?.
-
sylvlef
Am like St Gorge of England: still go to those crappy meetings because i love my wife and she is so IN the WT way of life...
My parents are still in too...
Should those 3 people get out of it , I would leave this religion-cult and never return again in any form of religion...

Things in the Bible that the JWs don't follow/practice.
by UBM101 ini am pretty annoyed to read/hear them saying that they are the true christian religion because they preach, follow the bible bla..bla..bla... let's list down the things in the bible that they don't follow/do.
i'm sure they are plenty.. the fruits of the holy spirit, that's for a start.. .

they make a glory to abstain from blood, but they let people take medicine that contains fraction of blood... bible does noT say "abstain from blood except medicine containing 0.0001% of blood...". Better be authorizing people to be treated with blood transfusion in that case, at least it would save life...
Another thing that bothers me: birth control. They are very hard on abortions, even in the case of a risk pregnancy, but allow contraception...If you read bible story of Onan you Will see that people who try to have "intimate life" but does noT want to have children are "bad in the eyes of god"...If they really were following the bible they should forbid the ûse of birth contrôl (as does the traditionnal catholic church) just as they discourage and forbid to celebrate birthdays...there is a lack of cohérence here.
And just to make it clear, i'm ok with birth control and find it a Great progress...I just want to point out inconsistencies in JW dogma...
