No I wouldn’t put it that way myself. I think it is more an aspect of the human (probably evolutionary) need to create higher level meaning in life which aids in survival. The old adage of not living on bread alone in many ways applies to human more than any other creature by dint of our ability to navigate life through language and concepts. So a higher level threat is needed in order to drive humans forward in survival. End of the world or end time scenarios, either real or imagined help us in some ways to have a higher level reason to live. Nationalism also does this as well as religion and so on.

How would you define RELIGION, and why?
by Fernando in"judge" rutherford defined or classified all religion as "a snare and a racket" in his books "religion" and "enemies".. after rutherford's death in 1942, his protege, watchtower vice president, and aclu darling, hayden c. covington, in the early 1950's, for reasons of legal expedience and supremacist aspirations, suddenly converted the watchtower into a religion.. this was done alongside one of the most audacious, spurious and longstanding swindles of the us legal system.
this involved twisting philippians 1:7 and misrepresenting the watchtower's true nature, objectives and activities.. .
this meant that it became necessary for the watchtower to suddenly reclassify and redefine religion (w51 1/15 p. 43 new legal booklet well named; w51 8/15 p. 511 questions from readers; yb75 p. 161 part 2 "for gladys bolton...").. two new watchtower classifications were suddenly created: "true religion" and "false religion".. now "true religion" meant "true beliefs" whilst "belief" in ever changing watchtower doctrine was equated with the one "faith" of scripture.. all this while the watchtower increasingly and maliciously truncated, obfuscated and hid the liberating full "good news" (or unabridged gospel) of scripture, which it lyingly claimed (in court) that it was actually "defending and legally establishing".. how would you have defined religion before learning ttatt?.

I think that definition could also apply to politics.

My personal definition is formalized spirituality combined with culture. Any tighter the definition and certain religions would start slipping through the definitional net.

Do you recommend a psychologist or a psychiatrist?

To be honest, nothing happened. I used words when I tried this. However this is not to say that other things I have tried over the years didn’t work. Sometimes they did but not in the way I wanted.

I’ve tried it in the past, to see if anything happened. The question is an interesting one because it raises another question of what is the universe?

JW refuses to provide wedding stationery to Gay couple
by KateWild ini was outraged at this and had to post it.. http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/jw-refuses-to-provide-wedding-stationery-to-gay-couple.
i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.
i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

Why is it that the only people who use the word `promote` seem to want to supress that thing, without ever being able to demonstrate the specific harm it is supposed to do that would justify such suppression or oppression? Its rather like the word `persecute` that gets used as applying to themselves, when it is they who are doing the persecution! I am quite ashamed by my fellow Christians at times. Just saying!

Where do we go when we die?
by bsand20 inmy best friend of 14 years and maid of honor passed away 2 months ago at age 32 after battling breast cancer for 6 years.
i haven't been the same since for many reasons.. as a jw kid i believed 144,000 chosen went to heaven, the good people would be resurrected including those who didn't have a chance to hear about jehovah, and the rest, which were of other religions and bad people, died and would cease to exist.
again, because i was a kid when i left, i never really understood the jw position on death and why they came to their conclusion.

Lots of views and opinions here about death and what it is and means. It’s wise to make up one’s own mind. Ideological world views have a habit of being incomplete or wrong. I personally think there is something more to being human than the body or mechanism myself but the details may be inaccessible to us of exactly what. Some will say that is because there aren’t any and others will say there are and they should be interpreted their way. What is a human to do? Evidence is a place to look but beware of those who define what evidence is according to such world views.

Turing Test Has Been Passed
by metatron inhttp://www.businessinsider.com/computer-passed-the-turing-test-2014-6.
this could be the epitome of disruptive technology.
when 'watson' pounded contestants on jeopardy, i was stunned.. .

The Turing test is fascinating but alas it has no inner consciousness of its own. Kind of means there is no test for inner consciousness along the lines of such a test.

Are Christians more or less likely to be in favour of stronger gun control than atheists?
by Seraphim23 ini have no agenda with this post, if anything i am suspecting the results will be against what i would want to hear as a christian.
however im asking the question as i am curious as to the results.
my personal position is in favour of a total ban but i do live in the united kingdom, however many of my friends live in the states.

Hi blondie, I’m not sure if you were asking that to me or not. I am trying to see if there is any correlation at all between ones position on guns and the being a Christian or an atheist. Obviously I understand there aren’t enough numbers to make this a scientific survey but it may be enough to give a slight idea. I’m not assuming Christians and atheists all believe the same things as their each other but trying to get at any trends in respect to guns.
adjusted knowledge are you an atheist or a Christian?
