Ukraine also showing a massive 6% decrease. No doubt largely due to emigration and disruption around the civil conflict. But again another country that used to show massive increases.
To explain this, the decrease is due to Crimea now not being part of the Ukraine. Russia's Witness population grew 5 percent when it annexed the territory.

i have heard that a lot of the english congregations in mexico are shutting down... they are condensing 5 congregations into one, or in some areas even disbanding the only english congregation.
jw's who have been living in mexico for many years and probably were sheltered by being in the english congregations will now have to move to spanish congregations.... .

I'll tell you.
JWs have been so excited about preaching to English-spearkers and making the field 'grow', that they have not been studiying with only those whos first language is English. Many of them, if not most, have been taking anyone with any level of English as a study.
Many Mexicans that return from the States to their country know Spanish very well. It should be left to the Spanish congregations to take care of them, even though they might be fluent in English. It hasn't been the case. But now that is changing.
In the last circuit assembly, the COs gave a talk to all the Mexico Inglés congregatoins about the new instructions. And during the week of the CO visit, a video was shown to all the Inglés congregations the importance of people to study the Bible in their mother tongue because it "speaks to their heart" and produces better results.
JWs in the Mexico Inglés field didn't think it would radically change things in their territory. Due to the new instructions, they are now skipping entire neighborhoods. They are even doing away with their records and taking a brand new census showing where people who's first language is English reside.
There are 170 English congregations in Mexico. About the same number there was in the 2012 service year.
that article about jehovah's witnesses having the lowest retention rate for born ins keeps popping up every now again ... i'm just curious if any of you have noticed that this is actually the case.
in the congregation that i grew up in, i'm going to say that 95% of the young people in their teens to mid twenties are either regular pioneering, regular auxiliary pioneering, serving in foreign language congregations or where the need is greater.
both of my younger sisters are regular pioneers - and the young people in their hall even organize 8 pm to midnight service on friday nights of their own accord.

With JWs, either you are in or you are out. How many people do you know that stop going to church for many years and still identify theselves as members of that religion, hanging on to tradition (something that JWs are told not to do)? I do not belive JWs have the lowest retention.

The study doesn't tell you the whole truth.
The truth is that people stop going to church soon after they leave their parents house. People tend to claim religious affiliation because of tradition.
JW kids are told that they aren't really JWs unless they continue to go to the meetings and preach.
as listed in 2013 yearbook.. yes, most countries have increases in congregations.
most of the countries that have less congregations than last year, show 1 or 2 less.
however, poland shows a dramatic 327 congregations less, from 1,814 (2011) to 1,487. netherlands, 25 less congregations.
The report also shows 5 less congregations in the Netherlands because the statistics for St Martin are no longer included with that of the Netherlands. St Martin now has its own separate report.
The same goes for St Barthélemy. St Barthélemy is now seperate from France in the report.

you are all familiar with the heartwarming images of people from all lands joining in a "great crowd" marching in to the promised land.
it occurred to me with more than nine countries and 1.6 billion people who are not recorded in the yearbook, that a great number of ethnic groups will not be represented.

China - In the northeastern part of the country, there are some buildings that serve as Kingdom Halls... I f you e xclude Hong Kong and South Korea , there are over 500 congregations and groups in Chinese worldwide.
Algeria - There are about 100 Witnesses here.
Egypt - J Ws now gather in larger groups. JWs have been doing some street work without getting in trouble. Congregations in all major cities.
Iran - Small groups of JWs exist here.
Iraq - Small groups. JWs work cautiously.
Morocco - I haven't heard of any JWs activity here recently.
Vietnam - There are over 1,000 publishers in this country. Many Bible studies are conducted. There are a dozen congregations in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
Yemen - I haven't heard of any activity.

Rising Unemployment worldwide - Unemployment has risen 2/3 of European countries. More time for field service.
Underemployment - Current situation in America and many other countries.
Retiring - Aging JW population. More time for full time pioneering.
New Preaching Methods - Internet providing easy and quick access to publications allowing for more on-the-spot preaching opportunities; Skyping with family and friends; Telephone calls.
biblestudies in the report, is the numbers they show us correct?.
i've been thinking of this, and as i am from sweden i use my own country as an example.. to notice is that sweden is high penetrated of internet.
the young ones here is often really good in english.. and i suppose that hardly one third of the jw kids finaly get baptised.. at most positive.. .
As I was saying in another thread...
JWs have been counting revisits as studies, whereas 10 years ago they didn't.
If you visit a person 3 times and you spend 15 minutes with them each time, then you are giving a bible study without the person realizing and you could count it as one Study.
That's how the congregation I attended counted for studies.
