What if we had a tribe of Moderators and a tribe of posters. The real fun would be two fold. One watching moderators voting each other off the island. Personally I think Craig would be the first to go since there would be no phones on the island. But then again as each participant was voted off they would have to run away screaming "Censorship. It is all an evil plot! This is just like the Kingdom Hall"

The second highlight imo would be when the tribes merge and have to work together. Depending on who was left that would prove interesting.

Can I be Jeff Probst (the host) and make snide comments throughout the program?

as of this morning at 6 am est, my boss came in to the store where i worked and told me that since "business was slow", he had no choice but to let me go.. .

i asked him why did he hire that new employee last week if business was slow??

he just looked at the counter and would not answer me.

I have no problem admitting I was wrong, the one time it happened.

I hope this is one of those times. But with the influx of new posters, I wanted them to be aware of the history. People should never send $$ to an anonymous person on the Internet until they know for certain that it is a valid situation.

There are many kind hearted people that post here. I don't like to see them taken advantage of by anyone. Those that are commenting about helping Yizu have obviously researched and/or know him. I applaud your desire to help others.

Yiz has never been a Witness yet came here looking for hand-outs and then later to preach his particular form of Born Again Christianity. I respect that he finally went out and tried to better his situation but every time he discussed his life and how he came to be in this difficult situation it is never his fault and he accepts no responsibility. His own family (also not Witnesses) aren't helping him anymore.

I wish him no ill will but I don't want newer users here to be sucked into financially helping someone who seems to be a chronic hand-out situation.

Yiz: Definitely go after them for the OT and unpaid time. You actually should be able to go after them for the pay decrease as well but that might prolong the situation before you see the $$. Your past attempts at finding work should be of good use to you. Perhaps go back and check with any of the employers that seemed to like you but didn't have any work at the time.

i. what a sad sad story!

i really believe that her being a jw did in part, kill her baby.

the fact that she was scared to tell her parents about her being pregnant just goes to show it.

Reading things like these, just goes to show that the Watchtower is a cult.

It is a tragic story.

However true your final statement is, this story doesn't really prove it.

If you speak to any youth counsellor or shelter you will hear that most teen mothers are petrified to tell their parents and take drastic measures to prevent their parents from finding out.

However the more religious the upbringing the greater the fear. Ironic considering religion is supposedly about love.

What the Society teaches takes priority over even what the Bible says. The Society will twist and distort scripture according to the point they are trying to make. Since the Bible doesn't cover most of modern life, the Society happily fills in where the Bible leaves off.

Take blood transfusions as an example. The Bible only says abstain from blood and even that there is some question as to whether the injunction was just regarding the eating of blood not necessarily about life saving medical treatment. (God apparently forgave David's men for not bleeding an animal properly yet to save one's life with blood you are eternally condemned unless 3 men forgive you).

But look at the convoluted mess now regarding blood and medicine. You need a weekly newsletter to keep up with the policy changes. When it comes to this issue it has nothing to do with what the Bible says it is entirely "What is the current understanding" or "What does the most recent Watchtower teach us?"

But no, this isn't a high control religion at all. (sarcasm intended)

With almost any issue affecting modern life, I'd challenge any active Witness to challenge an elder, 'But Bro Elder, where does the Bible teach that?" At best they could point to a loosely applied scriptural principle, often from the Old Testament which they themself teach doesn't apply to modern Christians.

TELL US YOUR LACK OF LOVE STORIES FOR THE LURKERS.

jesus said, "you will all know my followers by they're works".

in a recent thread that i made, which lie hurt you the most, most posters presented they're arguments, and pretty much all of them said that the "lack of love" was horrendous.

why don't you write out your lack of love stories so that the lurkers can visit and see what this destructive high-control-group (aka, cult) does to the emotional health of sheep who are sick and weak.

My step mother was never a Witness and my father was disfellowshipped 28 years ago for smoking. He quit about 20 years ago.

Since his death some Witnesses have called for us kids at the house. Each time my step mother has answered the phone. While it is nice they are calling to offer my brother and sister support NOT ONCE have any of them offered condolence to her. This is her house, her phone number, one would think common courtesy would mean extending condolence to the widow. Especially since she supported all us kids in our decision to remain witnesses. She drove us regularly to meetings when we were teenagers and never spoke badly about our religion. She was following the pattern my father had started and continued.

If anyone deserves some kind of acknowledgement from the JW's as a 'friendly non-Witness' it is her. But as a result of this she even better understands my decision to quit this group of socially inept people. She has become so bitter due to the lack of basic human compassion. She is no longer Witness friendly at all.

My JW sister has been forced to admit that the JW's thusfar have been cold and heartless. One more seed planted.

Love amongst themselves??? Yeah right. (sarcasm intentional)

My more fanatical JW is supposed to be coming to town for the funeral, this despite the fact he only is in contact with my Dad about every 2-3 years with a 3 minute phone call. My step mom has said "fine he disfellowshipped his father and chose not to have his father in his life. Why does he now want a relationship now he is dead. I am now shunning him."

My brother just doesn't understand why my step mom feels this way. "She just doesn't get the disfellowshipping thing, does she?" When he gets shunned he says it is persecution, but when he shuns others it is honorable and should be accepted. Some people will never get it. sigh

JW's seem to demand understanding and compassion from everyone else. Yet when they are cold hearted people are supposed to just accept it. If ever I had doubts about my decision to leave, this week has clinched it.

What a Witness they are making for themselves. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

in a press release today, grand lodge of england, which is freemasonry's oldest extant lodge, announced that due to the stock market collapse they would be dropping the "free" from their title and be known as "masons" starting the first of the month.

The biggest competition to the Masons is listed in SEC documents as the Shriner Organization who have also been hit hard.

Up until recently, you had to be at least a 3rd Degree Mason in good standing, in order to be a Shriner. Shriners are an off-shoot of the Freemasons. I don't remember if they are part of the Scottish or York rite (the two paths to 32nd degree Masonry). All I really know is they wear very silly hats. But they do some phenomenal work for childrens' hospitals and burn units. So for that I think we can forgive their choice of headgear. LOL

Uzzah - who is just nit-picking. Speaking of nits ... I was wrong about the spelling mistake. It was a different word usage which I had mis-read. Sorry.

What do the GB members do for cash?

The members of the Governing Body get paid the same as every other Bethelite by way of Monthly allowance and Personal Expense Account (PEA). The PEA is based on years of seniorty and is capped off at a certain level. I can't recall the exact amount but I believe it capped at $1,500 per year. I'll see if I can find my old Bethel Memos Booklet to see what it says there.

That being said however, the GB are in a position to receive gifts from the brothers as they travel and (unlike their tipping habits) many JW's are VERY generous to the members of the GB and other high ranking members from Bethel. Gifts have included cars, trips, special bottles of single malt scotch, clothing, and in one case I know one GB member who was given a Gold Visa card for his discretionary use by an elder in Ohio, that said elder would pay off.

So they are not lacking for anything. So too with senior Bethelites, they receive many perks as well. I know many Bethelites who were paid to travel to some congregations in Canada and the US to come give a talk there. Or in some cases the Bethelite paid airfare and once there, everything was provided for them. The local congregations viewed it as a way to say thank you to the bethelite and to support "God's House."

To answer Yeru's comment. The Rand shares held by the Society have not yet paid any dividends (as of 2001/02 when I last checked this stock for payouts - this was when it had been only been raised 4 times on these boards as a new revelation - sigh). The Society is in postion to benefit from the shares should a dividend be paid but have not yet received any. They are non-voting shares as well BTW.

So the GB get their money from:

1 - monthly Bethelite Allowance, 2 - Any pensions that they may qualify for (gov't or secular), 3 - gifts from the JW's. They are also given special consideration, i.e drivers, and extra personal services (laundry dry cleaning etc) over and above other Bethelites.
