"It's not you, it's me"
"no that doesn't make you look fat"
"Yes I'd love to meet your family"
"No I don't mind waiting"
...and other lies men have told women.. men: what lies have you told women?.
women: what lies have you been told... and believed?.
"It's not you, it's me"
"no that doesn't make you look fat"
"Yes I'd love to meet your family"
"No I don't mind waiting"
imagine that you are staring down from some ethereal plane of post-death...not the funeral, mind you, but perhaps years or decades after your physical decease.. what would you feel pleased to see written on your gravestone?.

Here I lie

I've lived, I've loved, I've lived
I've smiled, I've cried, I've lived
I've been healthy and sick, I've lived
I've found passions and I've lived
I've died.
May you be so lucky
here is an interesting challenge for the folks.
this thread revolves around one subject, and that is thomas paine's brilliant critique of the bible written in about 1795. he did most of this from memory, while in prison in france.. http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/thomas_paine/age_of_reason/.
the challenge is this: critique his essays.
I have had the unique "privilege" of trying to moderate a board during Farkel's hey-days! He has always been quick with a barb or to verbally rip into someone who posts nonsense or statements full of logical fallacies.
I've deleted a fair number of his posts over the years and got ripped a new one by Fark and others on a regular basis. But Farkel had a pretty keen sense as to when to use honey and when to use vinegar. Honey doesn't always work. Some people can be led to an understanding, others can be obstinate and needs a 2x4 to jog their thinking ability. Sometimes he got it wrong but more often he chose the appropriate tactic for the main person with whom he was communicating.
It can be near painful to read and some of the name calling unnecessary but he has had significant success in getting people to seriously re-think positions and to question well-ingrained circular reasoning.
Do I agree with his tactics? Not always. I've called him to task as a mod and privately as a colleague. Is he worthy of the villification being demonstrate on this thread? Not at all.
To echo HS' comment, you don't like his style, don't click on his threads. Pretty simple really.
Uzzah - To those interested ... keep reading his past threads and posts. He more than most has good reason to despise the WT and their flip-flop doctrines. Anyone here gone to jail or detention facilities for 'the truth' only to be told later it wasn't the society's fault that he followed 'his conscience" and thus shouldn't blame the Society?
well i didnt take names but !!!!
i presume a few of you have guilty consciences!!!.
what on earth is wrong with you????
Grace: You know you are really cute when you try to be angry!! {{{granny}}}
Now if you are going to ground any more ladies, make sure you send them to my room.... oops their.

at john 3:16 god says he loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believed in him will have everlasting life.
yet in revelation satan and the demons were kicked out of heaven and hurled to the earth.
how is that loving, what could possibly be the reason he would do that if he really loved us.
I had this ant farm when I was a kid. I loved it! Watched them carefully, threw some rotting vegetation in once in a while for food. Hell I even named a couple of them. One day I realized I hadn't looked at it in a long time.
The ants were all dead and mold was forming on some of the surfaces. I felt pangs of guilt and then moved on to my next project.
I think God stopped coming by and watching us a long time ago. S/He's moved onto other other more interesting projects. We're on our own.

That's the trouble of working with politicians. Plenty of asses and not enough fine looking butts

Ok, I repent in dust and ashes. W <going out for a butt>
I just saw a really nice butt I wouldn't mind going for..... Last month I didn't have access to the Internet for 2 days. Now THAT was withdrawl!!!
Lived in the Newburyport/Amesbury area a long time ago.
My (non-JW) family still live in that area just south of the NH border. Still remember quite a few of the JW's from the area.
I visit that part of the country at least two times per year. I love it there. Being 10 minutes from the ocean doesn't hurt either. Though the 3' of snow you guys got in December wasn't fun. I spent the first three days during my Christmas visit home, shovelling off the roof and scraping the 3" off ice off the shingles.
mincan has relatives visiting this week-end.
he is happy to see them but knows the problems associated with their visit will be hard to deal with.
you see, these relatives don't understand how difficult it is to come out of the cult and move on.
Sounds like it was a good day. Sometime our fears are so much worse than the reality of a situation. I am thrilled it worked out as well as it did.
You're a great kid and on the right track my friend. Keep on .. keeping on!
okay, this is the latest crazy email that i've gotten from my sister who is a happy drone within the borg.
i'm trying to imagine mayor bloomberg picking up the tab for the clock on the building .
hi guys here is a story told at the annual meeting!
While I was still active and serving at Bethel, I was seconded to Crooklyn for three months from Canada. One Saturday afternoon I took the Staten Island Ferry (cheapest tourist thing to do) and I overhead some people.
It was a simple conversation, 'Does anyone know what time it is?' The people all fumbled to see if they had a watch on, but some kid said, "Well Watchtower time is 4:45 (or whatever it was)"
"Watchtower time?"
"I think that is the American version of Bulova watches."
Not one person mentioned it was Jehovah's Witnesses or anything religious at all. So yeah what a huge fine outstanding witness that clock is on the walls of the publishing company. Awesome indeed. Though the clock has a better record for accuracy than does the Watchtower itself.
