I prefer to think of it as to who have chosen to lose me.

None of the Canadian teams really deserved to be in the playoffs this year. It is a sad reality. Vancouver at least is going to the second round.
Get used to it Simon, as a Toronto fan I have been waiting over 40 years for my team to do something in the playoffs.

here is the latest:
This strain has the potential to be the next pandemic but not right now
There is limited mortality and most poeople infected only have mild symptoms. Also not known is how many were sick but never reported.
However if this thing mutates with a more virulent strain, then we could be facing the global Pandemic situations that is feared.
So now is the time to focus on personal helath and immunity including hand washing protocols and ensuring you keep up to date with your flu shots.
I will commit to keeping this board informed. I sit on our National Pandemic committee and will do my best to keep this board informed with information as things progress

I don't want to say this Italian Circus Overseer is lying but it is at least a distortion of the facts for his/their own purposes:
From the Italian Red Cross who were on the scene within one hour of the initial quake assisting in search and rescue, emergency relief, feeding etc...
The Italian Red Cross continues to provide relief to those affected by the earthquake in Italy. In shelter camps run by the Italian Red Cross, special activities were undertaken to offer comfort and psychological support during the Easter weekend. 9000 chocolate eggs donated by different companies to the Italian Red Cross were distributed to those left homeless and many recreational activities were organized especially for young children, the elderly and for those with special needs.
Volunteers and staff of the Red Cross have organized games and various forms of entertainment. The activities were carried out not only in the Red Cross camps but also in the camps of Montereale and Castelnuovo San Pio. A group of clowns were present in the Italian Red Cross camp of San Gregorio. Two playrooms with a capacity for 100 children are now open. Inside are tables, chairs, footballs, toys, blackboards and games. The Italian Red Cross will be setting up more playrooms in the coming days.
Six Advanced Medical Posts of the Red Cross are now operational and two triage tents are providing primary first aid screening.
P sychological support teams are actively working with families affected by the tragedy. To date 10 volunteer psychologists and 10 volunteers are providing psychosocial support.
The Italian Red Cross is running a total of 6 camps in the affected areas; two in Assergi, one in San Gregorio, one in Collemaggio and the fifth in Centicolella. More than 600 volunteers and staff of the Italian Red Cross are supporting these efforts. There are 5 soup kitchens run by the Italian Red Cross, providing a total of 22,000 meals each day.
More than 30 Red Cross ambulances are operational, 12,000 blankets have been distributed, and 200 tents with a 1000-bed capacity offered by the Swiss Red Cross have been set up.
The Canadian Red Cross continues to accept donations from Canadians wishing to help. Donations can be made at www.redcross.ca, by calling 1-800-418-1111, by mailing a cheque earmarked “Italian Earthquake” to Canadian Red Cross, 5700 Cancross Court, Mississauga, ON, L5R 3E9, or in person at any Red Cross branch.

For the first time since leaving the JWs I am finding myself with a strong desire to do something religious. I am a firm agnostic but . .
Don;t quite know what to say about it. I will decide in the morning about if and where to go. It is strange though, even as a Witness the Memorial never did much for me nor has Easter. If I ever thought I might have the heartstrings yanked I figured it would be Christmas.
I will say however that all these memorial threads put that stupid JW song in my head the past few days. "He died upon a tree, to set all mankind free" grrrr

It has been recognized by Emergency Management professionals around the world that a spirit of entitlement/relience on government exists.
During a large scale emergency such as Katrina or F5 tornado, the overall infrastructure is overwhelmed yet people still seem to think that they will be able to get help simply by calling 9-1-1. There are only so many firefighters, so many cops and so many paramedics out there. If a town of 100,000 is decimated/impacted people are going to be waiting.
Thus the global effort to better educate families and individuals to be self sufficient for at least the first 3 days where ever possbile. It would take this time to rebuild a neew and temporary infrastructure for the delivery of goods etc.
Our parents and to a larger degree our grandparents were raiesed to be self sufficient. People born in Europe and North America after 1960 or so have had a fairly easy life by comparison and today people are more likely to demand/expect immediate aid. It is going to take time and frequently repeated messaging before that culture changes.
So it is good to hear that Glasgow is on board and getting the message out. In Canada Emergency Preparedness Week is the first full week of May. Last year we focussed messaging about identifying your individual risks (weather, derailment, industries nearby your home etc. This year we are concentrating on step 2. Make a Plan based on your risks. If house fire is your biggest risk, than ensure you have thought about and discussed with your family your evacuation plan, meeting place outside etc.
Better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not have been prepared. It is just good common sense.

Yiz:
I never said anything about your wife in this thread, on this board or any other internet board.
I only commented and made others aware of your past history of asking for financial help on this forum.
Oh and there is a huge difference between being "obsessed" versus learning from and being alert to historic patterns of behaviour.
