JW's and FEMA Community Emergency Response Teams?
by Bendrr inwas talking to a current jw elder contact a while back and he mentioned to me that "the society" was wanting local elders (and i assume ms's) to take fema community emergency response team training.

we didn't talk about that subject long enough for me to get any more info and he really doesn't talk to me much now at all.. anybody still in who can give me some more info on this?.

I recently met a fellow ex JW who is 23 years younger than me but is almost a female version of me. Bot in the looks department but in personality, outlook, and intelligence. Everytime we speak it is like I am listening to myself 20 years ago.

I am confused. There was the Dateline TV show that detailed the work of Silent Lambs.. There was the documented protest in Broklyn by Silent Lambs.. What does Wiki need in order to substantiate the item?

Daniel. Having just returned from Haiti and the Dominican Republic doing Humanitarian Relief and working with orphans there and coordinating the receipt of orphans coming into Canada since the earthquake, I think I have a little better perspective than just your blah blah pithy response.

Interesting how even their lawyer is defending 9 of the accused but did little to defend the ringleader. She seems to have quite the legacy of failed payments to employees, mortgage foreclosures, questionable business dealings. Good Christian...
Were they well intentioned? I think so. Illegal acts? HELL YA.
These people had no right going in Country post disaster. Kidnapping is harsh but if there were a criminal charge for being stupid, they should get the book thrown at them.

JWs having Facebook Sex - Strongly warned to get off FB at CA yesterday
by shopaholic inso it appears that jws are letting their freaky side come out on fb for everyone to see.. there was talk on the ca yesterday strongly warning all true lovers of jehovah to delete their fb accounts.
the talk was solely about fb.
the speaker mentioned that jws are associating with people that would not associate with in real life, often using the excuse that the person is a relative.

If you knew how little actual power the Board has you'd be embarrassed to have linked to that site. It is important for a charity to have well connected people on their Board. It isn't all that surprising at all to see execs from various industries on the Board of Governors. However the board has no authority over contracts, operations nor operational decisions.
Also the majority of the money raised is given to the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) for distribution during an International disaster response. The only money kept by the American Red Cross is for missions assigned to them by the IFRC.
The Red Cross by law must detail all their financials to the government and produce an annual report that can be reviewed by donors.
I think you are wise to do research before giving but without the lens of the paranoid.

www.redcross.ca click donate now and select Haiti Earthquake from the drop down menu or call 1-800-418-1111 and again can target the donation to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal. In the past 24 hours we have already received $800,000 from Canadians not to mention Corporate and Government support.
Humanitarian spirit is alive and well in this 'world lying in the power of the wicked one.'

Do You Believe The USA Will Have Another 9/11???
by minimus inwe were very lucky not to have another airplane blow up this past christmas.. do you think we will see this country under a systematic attack in the near future?.

Unfortunately yes I do think there will be more acts of terrorism visited upon the US.
Part of teh shock of 9-11 was that it happened on US soil. Suicide bombers are a daily threat elsewhere and teh US has bee left relativelt unscathed from such things with the exception of domestic terrorist activities (OK City).
It is this domestic threat that is more likely to escalate in North America than foreign threats IMO. I do really feel the US needs to concentrate more on domestic issues before continuing their world police function they had assigned to themselves.
