I was watching the latest episode of ?Carnivale? last night on HBO and I swear I saw a picture of Judge Rutherford on the wall. It was in the Crones house at the bottom of the stairs, hanging next to her wedding photo. This would be historically appropriate, since the setting is in the 30?s. Anyone else see this? I?ll try to get a screen grab if it?s still on my Tivo.

Not to hijack a topic or anything......but.....
OOOOHHHH a Chick Tract!!!! Anytime I think the world is not sufficently wacky, or that JW's have a lock on craziness, I just go read some of these. There was a great H.P. Lovecraft parody of these tracks floating around on the web, but I think its gone now due to Legal threats.

Why Did You Leave "The Truth"?
by Corvin inlurkers come in and out of this forum.
some lurkers suddenly have bouts of righteous indignation and become trolls that lash out at some of the subject matter posted here by x-jw's.
they accuse many of "leaving jehovah" for fleshly desires.

I woke up one morning and realized I was an agnostic/possibly atheist. The cognitive dissonance finally collapsing in on itself gave me an awful headache and I just decided this was not going to work anymore. Then I just walked away.

I have to admit, I kind of do. I really respect it when somebody really embraces evil, and boy, he did a good job of it! <grin> He could say stuff with a straight face like no other PR person I've ever seen.

Monotheism and Pluralism
by Euphemism inbefore post-modernism, when it was fashionable to talk about the 'great ideas' of 'civilization', monotheism was often represented as one of those ideas.
and monotheism did indeed have significant benefits.
it led to concepts of the universal brotherhood of man (siblinghood of humankind, if you want to be pc, i guess), universal ethics, etc.

Euphemism,
Is this topic just a coincidence, or did you happen to pick up a new book?
I ask this because at lunch today I just bought a new book out called ?God against the Gods: The history of the war between monotheism and polytheism?. I?m just getting started in it, but it raises many of these same questions, and seems to be pointing out that monotheism is not exactly an unmixed blessing.
I?ll let you know what I think when I finish it, or at least have read a bit more.

Don't buy a LitterMaid!!
by asleif_dufansdottir inok, this is kind of lame, but if i keep one person from wasting their money.... those of you who don't know about this, there is such a thing as a 'electric cat box' that scoops itself.
it's not that i'm lazy, but i have 3 cats, and i take pride in keeping cat smell down to zero or close to it.
most people actually comment when they come into my house, that they are amazed they can't smell a cat box.

I have to admit, I have one of these and like it.
It does have a lot of faults, in my opinion mostly centered around the really weak motor it has. I can never fill it up to the full level or it stalls out. Still, it's better than the alternative
I'm not sure if the cats like it, but they put up with it. They probably figure a lameass robot still does a better job than dad ever did.

OK, I actually Saw the Passion
by Yerusalyim injust came home from seeing...the passion...after the movie there was a question and answer session with two rabbis that viewed it with us...and three priests from my parish...more on that at another time...though both rabbis said in their opinion the movie is not antisemetic, but that it could (would) stir up antisemetic feelings in those who already possessed them.. the movie was an overall good one.
it was interesting trying to figure out some of the symbolism...what did the baby represent???
i think i know, but i'd like to hear mel's take on it.. pretty gory stuff, not quite what i thought it would be, but still quite yucky.

From all the discussions, it's obvious no one properly prepared for seeing this movie. I suggest brushing up first with the information below.
BTW, I apoligize if this has been posted somewhere else, but I didn't see it in this thread.

Elders searching for long disassociated ones
by Gretchen956 ini have heard of a couple cases in the last year where this happened, and i wonder if its happened to anyone else.. one of my acquaintances from another list moved from portland back to his homestate of maine.
he moved to a small town near the town where he was associated, but had not been associated for over 12 years.
the elders tracked him down after all that time and said they wanted to have a committee meeting so that they could disfellowship him.

My understanding of it is the same as Undercover's.
In most of the halls I've been in, if you vanished, then there was no attempt to hunt you down. I saw this in action several times. However, I suspect it tends to be the case more in urban or other transit areas. If they run across you on the street, it might serve as a reminder and they will come after you.
And if somebody has a bug up their ass about you, then all bets are off. Remember , in their mind they can do whatever they want.

CodeBlue,
Yep, it vanished on me, then I was interrupted by somebody actually wanting me to do something! The nerve of some people. It was great meeting you and Mr. codeblue and I hope we stay in contact.

I am so glad I didn't show up at that bar. I was told that it was Karoke free, and if I would have discovered otherwise, I would have had to go on a rampage. "Hulk no like Karoke. Hulk think Karoke humiliating"
