i was cleaning my basement the other day and came across a box of old wt books and publications i stowed away after i did the "fade".
i wasn't sure if i should toss them, use them for fireplace kindling, sell them on ebay, or see if anyone here would be interested in them.
i haven't gotten through the entire box yet, so i don't have a fully comprehensive list, but here are some to name a few:.

I haven't gotten through the entire box yet, so I don't have a fully comprehensive list, but here are some to name a few:
New World Translation Bibles (hard cover and soft cover)
"You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth"
"How Did Life Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation?"
"Revelation - It's Grand Climax at Hand!"
Kingdom Melodies songbooks
Kingdom Melodies (on CD)
Watchtower and Awake on cassette tape - early 90s
Many Watchtowers & Awakes individual mags (approx. 1989-1995)
Several Watchtower & Awake bound volumes (don't have year - most likely early 90's)
Theocratic Ministry School Guidebook
Reasoning from the Scriptures
The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived
Various brochures - including Trinity brochure
Jehovah's Witnesses - Proclaimers of God's Kingdom
Family Book (from 1970s - ugly puke green color)
Questions Young People Ask - Answers That Work
Various Yearbooks and Daily Texts (from late 80s-early 90s)
Most books/publications released between 1987 and 1995.
I can't really put a price value on these books. I'm not sure if most if not all of the material is on the WT CD-ROM. Some of the books are heavily highlighted or underlined, some of them are like brand-new. Are any of these books considered "hot items" (i.e. proof of old light, twisted scriptures, etc.)?
So whaddya think? Would it be worth my time and effort to sell this stuff, or can I save some money on my heating bill this winter?

how many of you have experienced or are experiencing any mental health related issues?
were/are any of these issues related to you being a jw?
do you feel many dubs still in "the truth" have mental health issues but are afraid to seek treatment from a "worldly" psychologist or psychiatrist?.
I am taking Prozac for depression and Adderall for my attention deficit (predominantly inattentive type). I was hesitant to take any medication when I was first diagnosed, but I was having relationship problems and I needed to address them quickly. It was a difficult decision to make, but one of the best I ever did. The Prozac has definitely taken the "edge" off of life's anxieties. My doctor said that Prozac is one of the #1 prescribed medications for depression because it works so well and it's not addictive. The Adderall (which is a class II medication stimulant) can be addictive because it's an amphetamine, but only if you abuse it. If you take it as prescribed (usually once or twice daily), it does not pose problems. And it's done wonders with helping me to get stuff done.
I feel better than I have in years. I couldn't even fathom subjecting myself to the mind control tactics of the Watchtower again.

I was recently diagnosed with severe depression, and Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, and am currently on medication for both. My 3-year old son was diagnosed with severe ADHD, which in turn led to my diagnosis. This disorder is very often genetically transmitted from parent to child.
I often link my depression back to my Dub childhood (no birthdays, no holidays, no life, low self-esteem). Little do most JW parents know just how much psychological damage they are doing to their children with all the "rules".
Interested in hearing your comments.

i faded as a jw about 8 years ago.
to me the meetings were just plain boring as hell and so "robotic".
i never did feel true love amongst the brothers and sisters as they always like to tout.
I'm on anti-depressants too, but only because I have two sons under the age of 4.
Really though, the psychological damage that is being done to the JWs is mind-boggling. In speaking with several therapists after I left the "troof", you'd be surprised how many JWs come through their doors. When you mention you used to be a JW, they will say "Oh yes, I am well aware of the problems they face." There always seems to be some hidden drama behind the "perfect" Witness front they put forward, whether it be wayward kids, marital strife, domestic abuse, just to name a few.
A power-trip fashion show, yeah, that's what the meetings are... "Look, I'm a Dub. I'm supposed to be humble, but look at my car, my clothes, my hours in service, my perfect kids who listen on command."
VOMIT ALERT
which watchtower or awake cover do you remember the most?
I remember the one with the skeleton head smoking a cigarette. On cover of Awake.
It was around 1988 or 1989, can't remember the date.
the cars i've seen most in the kingdom hall parking lot: the familiar, dull 4-door car, the family minivan, or the old beater.
sometimes the occasional 2-door car, which was generally frowned upon for service.
ok, let's hear it... what kind of car did you drive when you were a dub?.

Sometimes the occasional 2-door car, which was generally frowned upon for service. I don't recall anything particular flashy, like a sports car, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Of course there were some nicer cars for families who were better off financially (translated: those who actually went to college and got a degree). Those were usually the ones that drove in service.

I drove a '79 Olds Cutlass, an '85 Honda Accord hatchback, and a '88 Honda Accord. All 2-doors, too.
i have been away from jws for 20 years, after having grown up as one, a pioneer and ministerial servant.
i have rebuilt my life, am very happy and have a wife and three kids who never were part of jw.
i have moved back into the town i grew up in.
I don't even answer the door. They usually ring the doorbell once and they're gone in less than a minute.
It's usually the same brother with a different sister each time. I know this particular individual, who recently inherited a lot of money from his old man, so he goes out in service in his flashy new suits and his Cadillac Escalade with gold trim and chrome rims.
Priorities, eh? Bastards!

I faded as a JW about 8 years ago. To me the meetings were just plain boring as hell and so "robotic". I never did feel true love amongst the brothers and sisters as they always like to tout. Everyone seemed to have their favorite cliques they stuck to. My mother and brother are still both active JWs. They hardly ever miss weekly meetings -- for them it's just automatic.
I can't help but think of how boring our lives were as JWs. Time is consumed by five worthless meetings promoting a false hope. There is no true happiness or events to look forward to, no birthdays or holidays, like Mothers Day, Fathers Day, no turkey ON Thanksgiving DAY, no Christmas tree, no gifts, no donating to charity, no going into volunteer work for those less fortunate. Every activity in your life is subject to the elders. You have to fear being seen with non-JW's, going into R-rated movies, or if you're dating, holding hands. How in the world can people live like that? I'm proud of the double life I led!
I lived like this for for 23 years before I got married (to a non-JW!) and moved out. I cannot begin to tell you the freedom of mind and happiness I now experience. I have two sons and I made a promise to myself to never let them go through what I did growing up!

.
was there anything in particular that drove you nuts at the kingdom hall ??
?
I hated the cliques. The people I knew all had fathers who were elders. They always thought they were so much better than everyone else.
Many of them now are divorced and/or disfellowshipped. I guess their arrogance paid off.
