I AM at work. Just on my lunch break. I think a lot of people post during their work hours as well. Personal computer use at work is hard to monitor, unless you have a savvy IT department. Or a nosy boss.
I, on the other hand, have a privacy screen.

as a stay-at-home mom, i can occasionally find a few minutes every few days to play on the computer, but the amount of activity on this forum during us working hours is pretty surprising.
folks from other parts of the world notwithstanding, how are you american members able to post during work hours?.

Jehovah's Christian Witnesses??

when i was a kid and on vacation in florida about 20 years ago, my dad had mentioned about an "apostate group" in florida and that it was called "jehovah's christian witnesses" supposedly they even had their own kingdom halls, how many others here are aware of this group and do they even exist still?

I live in Grand Rapids, MI and I just called that number. It is definitely an apostate "help line" discounting the messages of the Watchtower over the last hundred years. It was a recorded message that asked you to leave a name and address if you wanted more information.

JWs can't spell
by Nosferatu ini was reading some comments on randy's site, and lately i've been noticing a trend - a majority of jws can't spell.
i've seen them come on here and their spelling is very poor.
here's an example: what a nut case!

I have noticed that there are a lot of people on this board that were former JW's cannot seem to spell. However, I see the same amount of misspellings on just about every board I've visited. I think it's a general trend that schools in the recent past just don't "knock it into your head" how to spell. I, myself, am a meticulous speller but that is because it was drilled into my head from a very young age. I hate to admit it , but I was even in a couple of spelling bees in grammar school. Maybe it was the school district I attended, I don't know.
I also see a lot of college educated people that cannot spell, nor do they know how to use proper grammar. I look at resumes nearly every working day and it never ceases to amaze me what people consider proper English. I do not have a college education, BTW.
I agree that a lot of misspellings are due to typos. As I went to high school in the late 70's, early 80's, I learned to type on a manual typewriter. I developed a typing "rhythm" that allows me to be accurate and fast. People that learn to type on a keyboard do not learn that rhythm.
Anyway, my $.02 for the day.

Just got back from a camping trip. I'm too old for tent camping now. Decided we need a camper or rent a cabin somewhere. Too much work! Was fun when the kids were small, not so much fun now. We did have a good time, just will spend the weekend recovering from sleeping outside and not in our own bed.

When They aren't "Attractive"
by simplesally inthis thread is in response to comments running in logan's thread about girls wearing 'hottie' t-shirts and debate (sort of) about beauty.
xena posted this: my ex was badly burned awhile back....and i had a few ignorant people actually comment to me that they didn't know how i could still find him attractive, they would be repulsed by the scarring he had....because they couldn't see that the person he is and was is an extremely "hot" person.
to this day when he goes swimming without his shirt there is inevitably the dumbass person who stares at the scars on his chest and arms....points and whispers to their friends so they all turn and look...shallow insensitive people with nothing better to do than sit in judgement on another person due to their appearance.

I considered myself an ugly duckling up until high school. I was always taller than everyone in my class (including the boys), my mother always cut my hair short because it tangled easily and was often mistaken for a boy. Then, being a JW child on top of that, you can imagine my level of self-esteem.
I guess I "grew into" my looks without even knowing it. I remember once, when I was a teenager, an older boy approached me at the skating rink and said to me, "you are one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen". I thought he was joking. I found out later he wasn't.
Someone else (years ago) told me I should have been a model.
Now that I'm 40, I know that looks are just that, looks. I'm happy with who I am and so is my husband! I am loved for the person I am, not the way I look. It feels good.

I manage a woman and also report to a woman. Personally, I think it's easier, in some respects, for women to report to men. I think there's always some 'cattiness' that goes on between women in all situations, but working relationships are a little worse because you're all "competing". I can definitely look back at former jobs and say that I favored the bosses that were men (with one horrible exception).
I get along with my boss as she tries to be fair. But, I'm honest with her and she respects that. I could certainly forgive any mistakes made by my receptionist, but since she's dishonest and tries to cover them up, I can't trust her.

I can relate to this on so many levels. I work in the HR department of a light manufacturing company in Michigan. Our receptionist reports to me and I have been having some "attitude" problems of my own with her.
First off, not knowing a whole lot about the laws in your state, is she considered a "minority"? Since she intimated that she was a "carpet muncher" was she setting herself up for a possible lawsuit that your company discrimates towards gays? Does your state consider gays a "minority"? I'll bet it does. My state doesn't, but a lot of them are going that way.
Bottom line, she should be fired. She sounds as if she's a cancer in your company. You are doing the right thing with her personally. Maintain your professionalism and don't try to be "friends" with her. It won't work. Work is just that, work. You're not there to be friends with people and "hang out". If there are personality conflicts, so be it. Professionals get past these things and move on.
Having said that, I can't STAND the receptionist that reports to me. She lied to me during her interview and she lies all the time about other stuff. She wasn't my first pick, but I was a "newbie" at the time and I let my boss talk me into hiring her. She's little, kind of cute and she has this way of "engaging" men, whether he be a vendor or a co-worker. Everyone thinks she is this sweet, friendly little innocent, but I've caught her in the act of being a hardcore b*tch. If I correct her in any way, she runs to MY BOSS and complains that I'm "mean and unfair". It's very frustrating. Of late, I have been sending her e-mails and cc'ing my boss on them so she can't accuse me of being "mean" when my boss is not around.
I've worked in several different companies and the receptionist position is always the hardest to fill and turnover is usually very high. If they're good, they promote on to other departments. If they're not good, they either stay there, on the fringes, to make your life miserable or they get fired.

Preaching Doom and Gloom in October?
by Sassy inmy ex husband (who is dfd but not a professsed apostate) told me yesterday that in october there is going to be a big push for preaching doom in service.. like the last chance to get people in before the end.. .
has anyone else heard this?.
i assume either his brother who is a dub or his mother have passed this on to him, in order to scare him to come back quick before everyone dies.. .

I talked to my JW mom over the weekend. She works part-time and was telling me that she had to "clear her schedule" for a big JW "campaign" in October. Of course, I didn't ask her to elaborate.

Kingdom Hall Spankings
by JH inmost meetings i went to, children were brought to the washrooms in the back to be disciplined.
often i could hear a child yell or cry due to the spanking given by the parent.
people in the hall would have that look on their face meaning that it was alright to discipline a child by spanking him.

When I was 3 or 4, mom took me to a JW babysitter. After a few months, my mom noticed that my hair was falling out. It was falling out from nervousness because this JW babysitter was beating me. Thankfully, she stopped taking me there.
When I had my son, I was encouraged by several "sisters" to spank my 6 month old baby when he cried at the meetings.
Sorry, but this is stuff you never forget.
