  Do You Think “Higher Education “Is All That??

  as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.

  i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.

  it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

  Obviously, you have never gone (never went?) to college based upon your comments and sentence structure.

  But I do agree, that in your hood, there can be a lot of pimps who are millionaires. Them thick gold chains ain't free.

  If you are smart academically, then higher education is an absolute plus, or in some cases, a necessity. If you want to be a doctor, pharmacist, CPA, lawyer, CEO, or other position, trying to do it without higher education will be difficult if not impossible.

  If you have some specific skill or trade such as a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or other trade, you can have your own business, no higher education, and still make a ton of money.

  But if you want to be a doctor or pharmacist, try to do it without higher education in the US. Maybe you could bluff your way through in a third world country.

  i was just looking at some happy holidays / xmas cards some of us sent each other at the close of 2016 of the cards i received only a few of them have your jwn name on them ,the other `s gave me their real names which i cant reveal here.. however this post is for everybody that is on this forum not just to the few i`m referring to.just to clarify .. and i was going to send greetings to you all this year for 2020.. one was from hawaii.

  since i left in 2014, things just are getting progressively worse.

  and she it's just getting deeper and deeper.

  I have been down the divorce road before.

  As many here have mentioned, communication is the key. Let her talk. Then let her talk some more. And then more.

  Even if you have strong disagreements on religion, you have been together and know each other.

  There are so many negatives or downs when breaking up. Again, I am speaking from experience.

  I don't know your feelings about using a biblical verse, but you could quote the Matthew 19:6 verse that says what God has put together, let no man tear apart.

  Maybe that is not applicable in your case but keep it in your pocket if she goes too far down the religious route.

  I wish you the very best, but please communicate.

  ewart chitty was appointed as secretary-treasurer , which position he held until his appointment to the governing body in november 1974.. when in brooklyn, chitty seems to have preferred younger men as roommates.

  the actual charge brought to the gb against chitty was made by a former roommate and involved some sort of inappropriate conduct.

  the gb concluded that chitty had homosexual tendencies, and asked him to resign.. a rare photo of chitty in happier days.

  Yes, the only thing I can barely recall at Pittsburgh is Franz talking. He was always the one you hated to give the final part at the end of the day at any assembly.

  I clearly remember "back in the day" at Yankee Stadium when the sessions ended at 9PM in the evening that he would easily go on for an extra half hour or more. Once I remember, nearly 10PM. He would just talk and talk and talk. As a little kid at the time, it felt like torture.

  Anyway, I will find the old centennial brochure in one of the boxes of old stuff and put it here for all to see.

  JW.org greater than the Bible now

  there was a time when brooklyn bethel was emblazoned with the words; "read god's word the bible daily" but it seems to me now that even the bible has taken second place to jw.org.

  i remember having lots of studies using the 'truth' book.

  we asked the students in those days to prepare well and look up the scriptures in their own copy of the bible.

  There is such a dumbing down of JW's now, especially the young ones. If you put a real NWT in front of them and asked them to read a scripture from Ezra, Micah, Amos or some other smaller biblical books, they would have the "deer in the headlights" look on their faces.

  I mentioned that to one of our elders recently that the scripture of "handling the word of truth aright" is being ignored. All he could say was, "I guess if persecution comes, we may need solar chargers for the iPads."

  This is sad compared to what we had to know in the past.
