You can't keep standing there being punched in the face, at some point you have to hit back.

If you stop putting your face into places that it doesn't belong you won't get punched.

Soleimani was head of the Al-Quds force and is responsible for the deaths of US soldiers (might be about 60? Not 100% sure).

Really not taking sides here but what one views as violence on one side is viewed by the other side as freedom fighters.
Right or wrong, America feels it is the policeman of the world. The soldiers were not killed on US soil but in Iraq. I didn't see Canadian, French, British, or other European soldiers targeted.
When even the people you are trying to "help" really don't want you there, then what is the expected outcome in the long run?
I guess it could be argued that Bush, Obama and Orange Man are the ones ultimately responsible since they keep sending US soldiers to these A-Hole places.

Was it because 'orange man bad'?

I think Orange Man is in way over his head.
Even Netanyahu in Israel this morning said they had nothing to do with the killing. He said it was totally an American operation.

i don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.
RubaDub- 'Children' by Robert Miles is definitely a goosebump song. As soon as I saw the picture I got goosebumps. Unfortunately for me, it also makes me cry or sob rather. So I don't listen to it anymore.

Yes, there is something about that song (Children) that gets inside you ... maybe goose bumps, maybe something deeper inside the soul ... perhaps mesmerizing is the word.
I am not sure.

Robert Miles' song Children. If you have never heard it, you HAVE to listen to it for the goose bump thing.
He died of cancer at a relatively young age (early 40's) but the music and his face in the clouds just does it for me.

Can you blame the military industry? If Coca Cola needed a war to move inventory, they would lobby for a war too.
redvip2000 ...
Excellent point. Bombing people and countries certainly does keep more people in the military industry employed.

i am actually not a 'sky is falling' guy, but i wanted to comment on the australian bushfires.. you may or may not believe the science behind global warming, however i personally put more faith in verified, scientific data than the words of fat cat, self-serving politicians.
climate science has predicted, based on data, that we will see more prolonged, extreme weather events, higher average temperatures, rising sea levels due to ocean expansion and glacial melting.
and this is exactly whats happening.
I have lived here in South Florida for over 30 years and when the iconic South Beach flooded, it was a major, and I mean major news event.
Now it happens 3 or 4 times year. The water keeps rising. There is even debate over whether to just buy some areas out and move them to higher ground (at taxpayer expense of course).
For whatever reason, man or otherwise, things are getting warmer. We keep breaking all-time temperature records regularly here. In 2019, we had about 150 days of temperature over 90 F (32 C). Nearly 150 days at or above that temperature when the average is typically about 85 days.
Forecasted high today at the beginning of winter (4 Jan 2020) is 86 F (30 C) which would tie an all time record. Another degree and it is broken.
There may be multiple factors involved, but you can't just keep dumping shit into the air, which retains heat when sunlight hits it, and expect to keep a "normal" environment.

When the democrats start bombarding the airwaves with political ads next summer/fall with Trump's own profanity-laced, bat-shit crazy conspiracy stuff, I think he will lose most of the independents.
At every political event he attends and his twitter stuff, he creates enough fodder for a dozen democratic commercials.
I can just see a rural family sitting around the TV, and Trump coming on the air screaming his sons-of-bitches and bastards lines. The parents get up and change the channel and tell the young children you shouldn't be listening to this. "We taught you be better than that." ..... and the picture fades away and the Biden 2020 thing appears on the screen.
Just wait.
