Now that I think of it, has the Society ever mentioned anything about "toys?" I never recall reference being made to them.

I actually use a laptop at work instead of a regular desktop unit. I then plug external monitor and keyboard into it and I never know the difference.
It is a Toshiba 1.0 ghz with 256k RAM and a 10 gig hard drive. I then have a 19" monitor and it works just fine.
BTW, a friend of mine bought a Dell about a year ago and is very happy with it. I have heard good things about Dell and they are very competitively priced (starting at less than $1,000). If I was buying a new one today, I would definitely check them out.
One thing I really like about Dell is that they typically use non-proprietary parts in their computers. Therefore, if you have a problem the parts are usually off-the-shelf and less expensive. I would avoid Compaq and HP for that reason. A guy I work with had to get a Compaq fixed and it would have cost more than the price of a new one. He threw it away (a little over 2 years old).
Good luck (Opppps, not luck, bite my tongue ... I mean, good forture, or happy sailing, bon voyage or whatever we are supposed to say this week).

i've been keeping track of how many new people have signed onto this forum for the past week and i'm amazed.
there have been about 50 new sign-ons during the past week.
wow!.
I think you have to take the increase in number of members here in proper context.
I think the 15 minute rule may have an impact on the increase here.

i have heard that there will be an announcement of a new arrangement for brothers to receive answers quickly to questions regarding the organization, doctrines or general issues.. instead of having to write a letter, mail it and wait for a response, there will be a new system that allows a person to call the society directly and get an answer over the phone.
with all of the events currently in the news regarding the organization, i was told this was in response to complaints from both brothers and those sincere interested ones that the response time via regular mail is too long.. as i understand it, the system will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
all the caller will need to do is dial the special number (it will be listed in all publications and flash periodically at the bottom of the screen in all new videos) and be put directly in contact with a person to discuss the issue.. there will be various topic lines such as doctrines, general comments, the daily text, secret sins i am trying to overcome, etc.

There will be various topic lines such as Doctrines, General Comments, the Daily Text, Secret Sins I Am Trying to Overcome, etc. Those wishing to discuss current or past sins must be 18 years or older. You will have a choice of getting the answer from a brother, a sister, a brother and sister together or two sisters on the line at the same time. A wide range of persons will be available to discuss the topic. For example, a middle aged brother may be experiencing problems with his 20 year old daughter. He may wish to request a sister in that age range to help him get her perspective on the issue.
It will be announced that the new provision will be available to anyone with a major credit card. A suggested contribution will be billed at the rate of $3.95 per minute, the first minute free. Since there may be unbelievers in the household with access to the credit card statements that do not appreciate such loving provisions, it will be discretely billed to your credit card.
Parents motivated by their love for younger ones will want to encourage their teenagers and pre-teens to participate in this new program. Any youth that can reason for himself with access to a valid credit card is eligible and encouraged to use the new system.
All in all, it certainly appears to be a loving new arrangement to assist those with questions and special needs.

is it just me, or did it ever bother anyone else about the treatment of the names of organized sports teams in the publications?
especially in books dealing with revelation, they invariably make the point that sports teams are bad because they use names such as rams, cougars, panthers, etc.
the implication is that they are thus acting like "animals" and thus debased.

Thanks for the insight. Yes, I understand the idolotry inference but even Jesus spoke of his followers as Sheep.
I somehow still don't see how naming your team the Cardinals, Bulls or Eagles creates any more incentive for a person to idolize a team than the teams named after colors (Reds, Blues), natural phenomina (Lightning, Earthquakes), clothing (Red Sox, White Sox), etc., etc., etc.
I see a lot of condemnation about the names they DO use, but, as is often typical, I don't see published a list of "approved" names that the Society would then commend them for using.

i won't get executed for leaving it.
in other words, it's not like n.korea... http://www.msnbc.com/news/863322.asp?0cv=cb20.
but i guess if we're to believe the saddam lovers and communist/socialist and honda prius driving folks here then america is much, much worse than i think it is..... .
..... that our national sport is NOT International Football (Soccer).
I have tried to watch it ... again and again. But it is sooooooo boring.
And the rules are crazy. The World Cup four years ago ended on penalty kicks. Give me a break. That's like at the end of American Football with a tie score having a field goal kicking contest ... or in baseball, having a home run hitting contest .. etc.
They should play until someone scores a REAL goal.
And that standing in the middle of the field ... kick it to one end .... then the other team kicks it back .... and .... yawn.

when i was a kid, my grandfather used to go to the local radio station and do a radio show called "things people are thinking about.
" there were two characters, mr robbins and mr lee.
mr robbins was the good guy if i recall.
Wow ... I guess this was not a very popular show.
Maybe it was only on in certain areas.

But in the same publication when you get to the part about the Four Living Creatures in Revelation, John (in vision) uses animals such as Lions and Eagles to point to the qualites of Jehovah.
I never got a good explaination of why it is ok to use animals when referring to God but not for humans (in this case the naming of a Sports Team).
Did anyone else ever ask this question?
