having visited dozens of kh's over the years, i can indeed confirm that they all have the same smell about them imho.. it's not very nice either, perhaps even a little sinister is the odour that emanates from most of them.. i wonder what it is that get's up my nose so?.

I too was raised a JW, and though it is shallow and cliche' to say this... but "I know how you feel"... sorta anyway. I hope you become comfortable with this site... it will help you. I know it. It is the greatest therapy!.... yes, most of us are a little nutz, but it comes with the territory I think.

ok so who has got stories about funny people in your cong,.
we had one guy who used to recite really long prayers, you would see people shifting from foot to foot as he recited extracts from the lords prayer in with his, he used to knock on doors and when they didnt answer shout through the letter box saying "i know your home" if they did actually come he would keep them talking for ages even after they said they werent interested.
he even wrote to tony blair and told him how he would die at armageddon, the society recieved a letter of complaint and he got banned from pioneering.

i have a dilema.
my parents are still active jw.
last year they told me they had to limit their association with me.
I am in almost the opposite position. My parents have had no contact with me for twenty years because I left the "truth" when I was twelve. I have now begun to try to re-establish contact for the good of my child. I kept thinking that I just couldnt raise my child without family. It was really important, to me that my child have the benefit of family.
Since the contact started a few weeks ago... we moved right to the topic, that I am also "bad ascociation" and would not be actually allowed to come to their home. ie... we could "meet for coffee at burger world" or 'have lunch sometime'. I then stated that the only thing I couldnt agree with them on was the shunning of people, because the elders say so. . . you guessed it.... I am now an "apostate" (heretic).
So I turned the tables. I told them that since my contact with them, that I had learned of the controversy surrounding their religion, and that I really didnt think it would be good parenting to expose my child to that kind of judgement and fear. I said that maybe I should re-consider.... they sorta toned down that "burn him at the stake" attitude, and now for some reason, we just dont talk about that anymore. Guess they didnt like being Judged anymore than the next guy.
Good luck. I hope it works out. Every child should have family. . . . but every family doesnt deserve to have the child.
well, it's been a good ten months since i walked away from the jws and it's been quite a journey.
i notice that the initial fears, self-doubt and rage are no longer with me.
when i first left i could hardly look at a wt or awake magazine without getting wave after wave of anxiety and frustration.
Kat Newmas agrees with thesilence.... If you got that far in ten months pal, you must be a pretty strong person. It has been twenty years for me.... I still get the hee-bee-gee-bees everytime I see a christmas tree. My wife loves christmas, and I dont really have an opinion on it... but I still dread seeing Nov-Dec. coming. I used to have to sit in the library at school during any holiday activities.... then the other guys beat you up, cause you dont believe in Jesus, cause you wont celebrate his B,day. Just gives me the creeps thats all... I see a reindeer, and I just know I am about to be stuffed into a locker in the gym.

i was raised as a witness.
I spent many years studying history after I left. I had a lot of time on my hands.... Just study some good old ancient history.... you can track down the God concept thousands of years before christianity. You can see how that cultres basically "switched Gods around" and how belief systems developed.
Start there.... then you will see how that when christianity developed... it was basically a form of control. I wont bother telling you the details... there are many many different opinions on it.
But if you want something interesting to start with... Study the reasons why the cover of the bible says in big Gold letters.... The King James version. I mean ... everybody has their own version right? It basically came down to who had the biggest.... sword.
I myself latched on to some of the Druidic structure of belief. Check it out... pretty thought provoking.
Also, check out the history of Monks... it was basically sort of a way for some to remain silent, without offending the church. It became acceptable.
** when I say "study" I dont mean using Christian based material. You will find alot of conflicting information... Guess that is why they call it "faith". I guess you either feel a connection to the dweller of the heavens or you do not.
Overall... you will find that the history of Religion.... has very little to do with God.

hi, i wasn't sure which heading to post this under, but here goes...i got my nostril pierced in mid-january, and i have developed a keloid next to it.
i am beside myself, i hate the keloid so much.
has anyone ever gotten a keloid, and how did you get rid of it?
I got my nose peirced when I was about 14.... many years ago, before computers.... just kidding I am only 33..... I also do not know what a keloid is... but I will tell you that I developed what looks like a tiny little mole or birthmark just below the peircing... it is not noticeable, but I have often worried that I may have done a stupid thing...... well... I did do a stupid thing, but you know what I mean... skin cancer or something. I still occasionally wear a tiny diamond in it... very occasionally... like once every year for a couple of days or something. For some reason it will itch, and wearing the stud is the only way to stop it... I dont know... I hope when you are my age your face doesnt fall off or something. If a "Keloid" can be removed... I would say go for it. whatever that is.
