The problem here guys is that Governing Body could very well remove shunning from the law books ... people bail ... and then the GB changes their mind and puts it back on ... happy to have pruned out the unbelievers and put the fear of God back in the congregation.

Hi Libby,
I think that most of us have gone though the feelings you are having at the moment. And to be truthful, I don't think that there is an easy answer to your/our deeper questions. However the analogy used often here is the Matrix Red or Blue pill problem. Is it better not to know Truth and live in happy ignorance .... or know the real Truth but be tormented by it? Most people prefer to be ignorant. But for me personally, i have to know. But that's just me.

UK Terrorists attacks
by Phoebe ini don't know if anyone has talked about this yet, forgive me if they have.
but i am just so, so sad that yet more innocent lives have been so brutally taken.
we've now had three attacks in three months and there has been countless terror attacks stopped by the police.. my jw acquaintances see these attacks as proof the end is near.

My Witness family was going on about these attacks last night, all excited about how it was another sign that we are living in the last days. I didn't say it, but I wish these ones would put things in their proper perspective. Because while the loss of even one life is bad, what about the 150 or so women who are murdered each and every year through acts of domestic violence in Great Britain or the nearly 1500 people killed annually on UK roads. Terrorist attacks are bad, no doubt about it ... but ultimately the number of deaths and injures they produce is very, very small statistically speaking. Its just like shark attacks here in Australia. People are paranoid about sharks. But how many people really are killed by them? Again the figures prove that it's by far more dangerous driving to the beach than it is getting into the water.
These people should just have a nice warm cup of tea and calm down a bit.

Jehovah's protecting his people - Korea
by no-zombie inwith the chances of war breaking out on the korean peninsula rapidly rising, i wonder if jehovah will save his people in seoul if kim jong-un decides to nukes it?
or will their deaths just be written off by the governing body's writing department as another case of "time and unforeseen occurrence"?.
while you might think that i'm being flippant or trivial here, i'm being quite serious.

While you might think that I'm being flippant or trivial here, I'm being quite serious. Because time and again, we have been told the lie of our special protection. Which sadly, the 99,000+ witnesses in that country might soon find out for themselves, when those who survive the attack, start to have their hair falling out in chunks.

Thank you for helping me through the bad days
by doubtfull1799 ini'm sure that whatever stage we are at with our journey in leaving the corporation disguised as a religion, aka the watchtower bible & tract society, we have good days and bad days.
maybe young ones who have managed to escape mentally do not suffer quite as much, or suffer in different ways, but after 40 years of indoctrination, what i now like to call the "machinery of reinforcement" it is unavoidable that you don't have days where your head is messed with.
yesterday was just such a day for me.

hi doubtfull,
No thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings. For me, when i read people's various comments, I know that I'll most likely never met them in person but there are real connection made when someone else is feeling what we feel or is able to articulate something that we just can't put into words. And even when we are just venting (which occurrs a lot here) I'm sure that one of us needs to read about it at the time, even if its just to feel for a moment that what's going on within ourselves is not that strange or unusual. I guess that most of us here are like patients in a amputee ward. Some of us are more injured that others, some accepting their new circumstance more that others, some who are crying, angry, full or self pity or loss, but none the less we are all heartened when someone else is fitted with a new processus and takes those first few steps on their own.
For me, I often think that I'm living on Bizarro World. I just don't get anyone thinks anymore. But coming here, helps me feel slightly more whole ... being in company of others like me ... part of the brotherhood of heretics.

Greed and the Russian Problem
by no-zombie inby now all of us are aware of the moves in russia to ban the organization and the frantic letter writing campaign started by the governing body.. however, what i thought was interesting and perhaps not already mentioned, is the fact that governing body themselves may have actually created this very situation.
due of their personal greed to seize the brotherhood's saved congregational accounts and the ownership of the publisher funded kingdom halls through the centralizing of those assets into the watchtower corporation (which i'm sure has taken place in russia too), the ability for putin to take the lot has only been made it easier.
however if the governing body had left the ownership of the halls at the local level, i expect that the best the russian government could do would be to have them closed and then start the much longer court process of taking them one by one.. and if anyone has any delusions in thinking that a ton of letters will in some way convince putin to change his mind; think again.

He didn't care in 2008 when he ordered the invasion of Georgia. Nor did he worry about it in 2014 when he took the Crimea . And he's not bothered about his puppet regime using chlorine fill barrel bombs killing women and children in Syria.

Observations From an Ex-Elder Part 3 - Searching for the Lost Sheep

hi doubtfull,
Unfortunately I was in a similar situation as yourself and I totally get where you are coming from. In my case, I was in the same congregation for over 40 years and a MS and Elder much of that time. But my wife became chronically ill with clinical depression (suicidal actually) and it became all to much. So I stepped down and we moved congregation to become closer to my family for some support. Since that time (and many, many years have past) no-one from the body or the congregation has called to see how we were going. My wife could have killed herself or anything. You know after all the time and effort I had done for the congregation and with the body of Elders (and I was doing more than most) ... not one call. That hurt and still does. There is no Brotherhood ... its just a lie ... and I recon that i'm probably get more genuine love from the checkout girl at our local supermarket that from all those ones I've known for most of my life.

When you think about it, its really immaterial if Fessler decided to claim the compensation or expend herself just to make a point. Ether way, the Society lost. As another child abuse case became public and they took a costly hit to their resources. Until the day that the Governing Body finally understands their culpability, this is how its will play out ... more bad press and more money lost.
