A WTF Moment While In the WTS
by Searching inhas anyone else had a moment, while still within the organization (and before learning ttatt) that caused them to stop and go, "this is kind of messed up.".
for instance, back i believe in the early 2000's, i was attending a dc with my family.
it was announced at the beginning of the convention that there was going to be a special announcement at the end, so for everyone to please try to remain until the very end of the meeting.

The Elders in my previous congregation: WTF? if they reflect Jesus, then Jesus is not what I think it should be. If they dont reflect jesus, why i'm here?
In that season a friend of mine asked: Can you show me using the Bible, and the Bible only, how we arrive to 1914? I tried for 3 month. He never argue anything. After any reason that i gave, he just asked back: Are you satisfied with your own answer?
I tried, every day, for 3 month. Then I saw all break into pieces.

"do you believe the expression of regrets and negative thoughts about the decisions you've made vis-à-vis your children and your spouse are always legitimate?"
"I with I was never a JW", "I wish I have never born", "I wish I have order something less spicy", "I regret that last Cider".
Expression of regrets are quite common, I think. I have hear tons of parents saying something like that sometimes (about religion, kids, spicy food, Cider and other mundane things). They don't hate them, just they are just tired, perhaps.
But, truth be told, this is the first time that I see an article as serious as you expect of the BBC, about regretting kids in the words of normal, everyday mothers. In any case, sometimes we feel that we should have done something different, and we talk openly about it, but never about the kids.
Again: it is not about what I feel or talk about this topic, was about the article.
To answer your question: Once or twice a year I wish I could do family stuff different, and I will think about it for about 10 minutes, daydreaming about how could possibly be my life in other circunstances. This one was the first time ever that I discuss the point with someone that is not my wife. The rest of the time I enjoy a lot listening Taylor Swift and playing Mario Bros with my kids. I do truly enjoy it.
I wish I did wait a little longer to bring them to this world, just a few more years. Also I wish they never grow old, and keep giving me little kisses as they do.
Now: time to pick them up from school!
Regards!

"Sad when the children read this stuff...."
ummm... No, I don't think so. My advice will be: Go, travel the world, learn a lot, put your finances in order and THEN get a bunch of kids and enjoy them as I enjoy you... you were just too early. Beautiful kids, but tooooo early.
Cheers!

"You just end up looking like an asshole."
Perhaps. That is why it catch my attention this morning in the BBC UK homepage, because nobody talks about that feelings for exactly the same reason. Is something interesting to talk about.
Dont misunderstand me, please. I love my kids, and I am what I am because of them. But, because I went to a full parent really early in life, i just think that from the marriage to the kids I should have waited a little bit more to enjoy life without kids.
No, I don't completely relate to the other views in the article, but is an interesting reading. If evolution is about protect the offspring, why this feelings?
Onager:
"How would you know in advance though?"
Never a jw
"You are wasting your time with the "I could have""
Exactly, there is no point in that discussion. In any case, I love my kids, I can't imagine life without them. But the deepness of the thoughts of that mothers are worth to note, even if we don't agree.
Stephane:
"All I can say now is that my life, while not perfect, is great. Sure I feel that my kids are stopping me from doing certain things, but I also can say that they freed me from watchtower and made me a better man."
Exactly the way I feel...
Thanks for your comments!

" if I could turn back the clock and tell myself what it is like, I'm not sure I'd bother having any. "
"I gave everything I could, did everything I needed to but was it a "joy"? No. If I had my time again I would never have children."
In my view, as a dad, I think that it was too early to bring them. I think I should have party a little bit more before.
Any thoughts?

Should every J.W. be an evangelizer/preacher?
by The Searcher inaccording to the wtbts all 1st century christians were evangelizers/preachers, and by extension, all modern-day j.w.
's should be doing likewise.
(for the moment, let's ignore the org's own contradiction that only their elite anointed class are "ambassadors", and that the preaching work was assigned to them!

I remember an old sister in my cong preaching:
"Do you know how to read? take! read this!"
Hehe, amazing presentation.
And the membership numbers are low BECAUSE the preaching work that you are supposed to do. So, for the good of humanity against this cult: leave like that.

What brought you into the "truth"? Were you born in?
Almost, my mother started when we were very small.
What caused you to have doubts?
As everybody, it's never one small thing, but a lot of small things. I could not explain 1914 only with the bible (and nothing else), and one beautiful morning my 4 years old kid asked me: "that means that Jehovah is going to destroy everybody in my classroom because the birthdays?"... I almost crash the car with that question. That was the "click" moment. From there CoC and jwfacts... and done.
How did you leave? DF? DA? Fade?
Even that the click was about 7 years ago, I'm still in because my super zealous wife. She needs (as me) one click moment, and I have just to wait.
Then, we are going to fade...
