US Patriotism VS the Rest of the World
by Xena inabaddon and i were having a discussion in another thread regarding the differences between us patriotism and european patriotism.
apparently some people consider the us to be peopled with rabid flag waving, my country right or wrong, ugly americans.
i am wondering what the general concensus of this board would be?.

Someone will be on my mind for no apparant reason and I rarely talk to this particular person and then that very day the phone will ring and its that person.
i've had that too. when i started to believe the witness were wrong, lots of little coincidences started to happen, that may not seem like much to anyone, but to you personally its significant.

this is trooping the colour
Each year, the Queen and other members of the Royal Family attend the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Horse Guards Parade in London. The Queen attends the ceremony to take the salute from thousands of guardsmen who parade the Queen's colour (or flag).
Trooping the Colour, which has honoured the sovereign's official birthday for nearly two centuries, dates back to the earliest times of armed conflict, when each leader needed his own flag or colours to stand out clearly amid the smoke and dust of battle. The flag or colours was trooped in front of the soldiers every day to make sure that every man could recognise those of his own regiment.
The parade route goes from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horseguards Parade, Whitehall and back again.
Precisely as the clock on the Horse Guards Building strikes eleven, the Royal Procession arrives and The Queen takes the Royal Salute. The parade begins with the Inspection, The Queen driving slowly down the ranks of all eight Guards and then past the Household Cavalry. After the event, the Royal Family gathers on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch an RAF flypast.
The parade starts at 11 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. There are rehearsals on the two previous Saturdays which are also open to the public. Although tickets are very scarce and have to be applied for in January, you can get a good view from St. James’s Park or along the Mall. The Queen leaves Buckingham Palace in a carriage at 10.40am and arrives at Horse Guards at 11am precisely.

My life story... by Confuzcious.
by confuzcious inhello friends,.
since i'm not going to the memorial for the first time since i've became a witness, i wanted to post my "j dub" life story as a form of therapy.. i guess i'm posting this here, also, as sort of a refreshment for others who taken this road.
after much study, i've finally disassociated myself - in my heart at least.

our favorite wild man texan is turning the big 2-5 today, and here i make an unanticipated return to wish him a happy deliverance from his sometimes boring, most times blip-dippity-hap-slappity fun world of 24dom.
happy birthday big guy!

The "Security" Of Being A Jehovah's Witness
by minimus ini am convinced that many witnesses are happy that they are in this religion because they are told exactly what to do and how to think.
it gives them a sense of security.
they don't have to blame themselves for anything.

i think its because they feel they've bought a piece of paradise, because they've bought what the WTS says. i know thats how i used to feel. pretty selfish and arrogant really.

Your favorite Watchtower oddities
by logansrun inyou know, there are some things phrased that are just so, so....watchtoweresque.
what are some things you see that remind you of some wt foibles?
one thing that always cracks me up is when an article or book (or post) uses too many exclamation points.

Do the Euorpeans on here consider themselves patriotic and how do they display this? How do they view the US attitudes toward patriotism?
to get back to the topic, the way i see it here in britain is that patriotism is something that happens on a national level, rather than an individual level. i mean, here in britain, we have things like troopping the colour, and state opening of parliment, edinburg tatoo etc with all the pomp and circumstance. we see history of a great empirial nation all around us in things like castles, museums, and all that sort of thing. whereas in america there doesnt seem to be much of that, so it seems that it has to be made up in other ways, and on more of an individual basis.
another aspect of it would be the history of how the working class have been treated in britain of hundreds of years and their lack of benifit from the empire, which has more or less created apathy, even resentment towards patriotism. combining that with continental europeans reality of the manipulation of patriotism as experienced through 2 wars, it's easy to see why some would view some americans patriotism as over the top, when those americans wouldnt see much wrong with it.
it's all about how others see americans, which americans could never see about themselves.
