my wife missed the meeting to night due to flu and a sister who has far more health problems than us phoned to ask after her.

I found many witnesses who were NICE when I first went to meetings, pregnant and unbaptised.....................weren't SO NICE once I got thin and wet! The very same people's behaviour changed and I noticed it over the years with just about every new person. Are they classified NICE because they say 'hello', ask how you are, smile at you, because they don't spit on you, kick you, stone you..............or are they NICE because they know what the WTS has put you through and stand by you when the corrupt elders df you unfairly, because they put innocent children before the WTS, no matter what.........because they give you love and support when the entire congregation has turned their back on you????????? Conditional NICE just like conditional LOVE................that's what you get from even the nicest dubs! Bliss...........(of the maybe-not-so-nice class.)

When my child was sexually abused by a jw, ignored by the elders, shunned by the pedo's family and friends.......................that hurt me more than anything the borg did to me (and believe me, they did plenty).

So did being a witness harm me?????????? YES, because it harmed the ones I love deeply and tried to keep safe and innocent.

Two types of elder?????

its my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.

this type is more of a spiritual policeman.

he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???

Oh yeh.........................there are several types of elders. Unfortunately the ones who have the most impact and are used the most are the harsh, mongral ones.

I knew only one elder who was soft and caring. He wept with us as we told him of our pain and harsh treatment. But the ones who the WTS like and promote are the heartless, common variety.

Power hungry, proud men are the ones who climb the WTS ladder.

Is the need to be in a religion a personality trait....................

is religion inherited as a life style or emotional dependency?????????????????

is it low self-esteem and the need for others to decide what is right and wrong, how to live and even die???????.

every religion has it's good and bad..............some more of one than the other.

yes, we all need hope of some sort but does religion offer it?

I have found much peace since leaving organised religion...........I can live without it.

I plan to do my best with my life............and I don't need religious leaders or an organization to make me do it.

So my question remains.......................???????????????

Sick Nostalgia...

lately i've been feeling overwhelming nostalgia for my time as a jw.

i know it's foolish and stupid, but it keeps happening.

today i was at starbucks and i saw a family come in after meeting.

Hi ya..................I'm sorry you feel so sad. I remember feeling that way when I was df'ed. But not now. I was reinstated and left as a fader 2 years ago for some very compelling reasons. Are you df'ed? All I can say is don't feel that you have to control your feelings or that you shouldn't allow these feelings to come about. Grief (and that is how I would describe the feeling when I was df'ed/shunned) is powerful but it does diminish with time, so give yourself that! Besides, the desired effect of the borg is to make the one leaving feel like an outsider..........it's a form of bullying.

So just hang in there and know that in time the pain will ease. I hope you find support and encouragement here..........we do understand.

being italian and brought up on the mediterranian diet i tend to eat a lot of fruit, vegetables, cheese, pasta, rice and some meat.. i'm just curious to know who here is vegeterian and why?????.
