Well said, Gregor. Take the utopian example of liberal socialism run amok in this country-New Orleans. By continually giving the money of working stiffs like me you perpetuate an incapable entitlement society. When the tax base in this country reaches the point (very close, now) where more than 50% pay no income tax, they can vote in all the "tax the rich" schemes they want until the tit is empty and the cow has left. You can do better for yourself if you are rewarded for your work directly. By lowering taxes the LLC. business owner who pays his taxes as income tax can hire more workers, or buy a piece of machinery which in turn creates jobs. A person making 150 to 300 thousand is not rich in my view. The government doing good is a great thing if they are not wasteful and create entitlement situations where generations of people just live on what they are given. In a society which rewards hard work more money can come into the federal reserve. Right now the top 25% pay 86% of the tax. In 2000 it was 84%. That can be viewed as if tax cuts raised more people into higher tax liabilities and hence, higher income. The top 50% pay almost 97% of the income tax now. The top 1% pay 39%. According to the Wall Street Journal: "In 1980, when the top income tax rate was 70%, the richest 1% only paid 19% of all income taxes; now with a top rate of 35%, they pay more than double that." This country needs capital investment by its own citizens, not higher taxes. The US has been paying the lion's share of protecting the world. Other nations can not begin to match the US in military spending. We have carried them long enough. Of all nations the US citizens give more to charity by far. The country gives more charity than any other. The navy shows up with hospital ships when natural disasters strike other countries. The US should stop being the benefactor of the world.

Hey HS, the US is a republic, not a democracy. That word is not even in the Constitution. Take your argument to the extreme. The Soviet Union stands as an example of socialism.. Everyone equal-- equally poor. Why do you feel the need of help from the government in your life? Do you think the EU has a larger GDP than the US. How about productivity per capita comparisons. The EU is a merger of failed pseudo socialistic countries. You are obviously a wealth redistribution believer. When income is no longer increased by working longer and/or harder why work and produce extra? France now is coming to the realization that hard work should be rewarded with more pay. A proposal to lift the work week hours from 35 and to allow overtime to not be taxed is under consideration. We are a Republic with lots of problems. They are nothing conservatism will not fix.

What if God IS a farce?
by LouBelle inthat would really rock my world as i know it.
after i initially left the jws' i did question the whole "is there a god"" especially when you look around and see all the atrocities - the sick sick things happening in your own back yard.then i put it out of my mind and carried on believing in a god.. right now i choose to believe in a god, whether that god be jesus, jehovah, buddha, allah, shiva, it doesn't matter - i'm happy with the idea that there is a spiritual & powerful someone running things.however lately i've been questioning again - so many posters on here that are atheists really make good arguments & i can't reason my way out of it.. why does god keep so quiet?
why not just let us know - tadaaaa i'm here.

Because of the obvious design in the universe from the smallest to the largest I believe there was a creation. I believe there is no interference by the creator(s) in human affairs. All memory of humans could be erased in 5 or 6 billion years with the sun entering its next phase. (Of course, I could be wrong--humans may figure out true space travel (avoidance). That's a long time.) God could exist and change that. After all, isn't Andromeda due to pass thru the Milky Way long before that. That could change things. Whatever started this obviously is on a different time frame.

Fred Thompson. Then, Guilliani, then Romney, then Huckabee. I am for a small government and low taxes and big capitalism and self sufficiency. I love the idea Kennedy promoted: Ask not what your country can do for you but rather what you can do for your country. I feel the USA is a force holding together the world with all its problems.

Elder's Boy: Now a Dr, instead of a piano tuner!
by WingCommander inthought i'd share this snipit i learned about 2 years ago.
back when i still attended as a teenager, there was this dorky, kinda fat, shy elder's son who never fit in at school.
he was a totally sheltered weenie, and of course his elder father had high expectations for his boy!!

I think piano tuning would be a great business. That is not a skill easily mastered. Even when you can count five or more beats in a second precisely when listening to the constructive interference between isolated strings you have to progressively sharp some intervals and flat others all the time stretching or knocking the string into a position it will stay in using the tuning pin. Moving one string affects the adjacent strings and the whole harp tension. Just because someone is a Dr. doesn't mean all other skills are beneath them.

We're Jehovah's Witnesses Proudly we proclaim our name Keep publishing my name near and far Prove that my Witnesses you are. Always proving oneself. God, I can't get these out of my head. My brother (never in the troof and skeptical of me) used to record a tape once in a while on an old Mellotron of Kingdom songs and send 'em to me in parody.

I think the "Babylon the Great has Fallen-God's Kingdom Rules" book about 1969 said we had been in the Great Tribulation since 1914 or so.
