You are wrong about the Chinese "using" the Witnesses to learn English. My mum offers bible studies and tells them that if nothing else it will help their English. She's got loads of studies with students, is learning Chinese and has a ball with them. They cook for her, bring her small gifts and letters from their parents thanking her for taking an interest in their kids. They all treat her with tremendous respect. None of them are baptised and I don't think any of those that have returned to China have continued their study.

She's also in contact with Witnesses in Beijing. They are ther under the auspices of learning Chinese but are missionary sleeper cells. They email each other in a kind of code stripped of any religious/spiritual terminology in case it's read.

Here they have a Mandarin congregation and in Glasgow they have Mandarin and Cantonese congregations and she's been to Belfast for a circuit assembly and Birmingham for the district assembly.

It's all the rage.

a while back, an aquaintance of mine told me that he liked to visit prostitutes.

although we weren't that close, i'd worked on and off with him over the years.

i knew his wife too and would often see her around town.. he'd told me that when he had something to celebrate, like his birthday or maybe a commercial win, he and a pal of his would do the pubs and clubs first and then go kerb crawling until they found a pair of street girls who would play the swopsy's scene.

I will discuss the situation with the person who is confiding in me and see if I can help. I am told many things by male and female friends but what is said to me remains confidential and does not affect my affection or friendship with that person or their partner.

That sounds like you are making a value judgement. In what way would you help Englishman's acquaintance?

but I personally don’t feel forced to make a judgement or end a friendship because someone lives by a different standard to me.

Ouija board?

i was a teenager i bought a ouigja board and my sisters and i played with it.

it scared us so much we threw it away!

but, i was forwarned about it, so i guess i could have driven myself to madness with my own mind!

Played with one recently and zilch occured.

There have been a few threads on this recently and it struck me that it was primarily women that were having questions answered and prophecies come true through a ouija. It was also my experience while a Witness that the majority of incidences of "demonic" activity was visited upon women (books flying across rooms, voices, something pinning them to the bed etc). The only man I came across having similar problems was bi-polar and had starved himself into oblivion and I would guess was hallucinating.

At the risk of being labelled a misogynist... Have any men on the board had anything happen with a ouija board?

What a Prat!

this evening mrs ozzie and i went to our favorite local restaurant - it's out in the outer suburbs, a lovely small thai restaurant - well, any food eaten with chopsticks is okay with us!.

anyway, we entered and there at a middle table sat a family of three - father, mother and daughter.

nothing unusual about that except, well it was the badge card that caught my eye.

Wearing a suit and tie with a badge for dinner makes him a prat? No more of one than drivers who have the icthus symbol on their cars, but I guess we'd call them sprats.
