You mean the farmer with the raucous pigs? ASBO smashbo, another New Labour sticking plaster.

Maybe we should send the chavs to Deep Cut where they can get
bullied and shotkill themselves. Why is it that chavs need national service to learn discipline and respect but other teenagers don't? What is it those other adolescents are getting?

PaulThere is evidence of some middle class aping the chavs, hence the rise of Estuary English. My time at uni here was while chav culture was on the rise. The uni attracts a ridiculously large proportion of upper middle class kids (yes, friends of Prince William were in my year) and in first year they were still all Yahs, long scarves, ethnic beads, flicky hair and moth eaten jumpers -shabby chic that you have to be rich to get away with. By 4th year however there was a notable difference in the first year intake with a lot of fake tan, pram-face (tight blonde pony tails) and high street fashion on the kids from Marlborough, Cheltenham Ladies and Ampleforth.
Chavitis seems infectious.

What is a Chav?
'chav' (slang) - a young person, often without a high level of education, who follows a particular fashion; Chavs usually wear designer labels including the chav favourite 'Burberry', and if they’re girls, very short skirts, large hoop earrings and stilettos.
Chavs see branded baseball caps as a status symbol and wear them at every opportunity. Normally found hanging around shopping centres.
Also known as Townies, Kevs, Hood Rats, Charvers, Steeks, Stigs, Bazzas, Yarcos, Ratboys, Chorer, Skangers, Scutters, Janners, Kappa Slappers, Scallies, and Spides. Also known as Neds in Scotland, knackers & skangers in Ireland, and Guidos in the USA

Don't forget the birch too. Wearing anything Burberry should result in a public birching, hooded tops a lynching.

You are wrong about the Chinese "using" the Witnesses to learn English. My mum offers bible studies and tells them that if nothing else it will help their English. She's got loads of studies with students, is learning Chinese and has a ball with them. They cook for her, bring her small gifts and letters from their parents thanking her for taking an interest in their kids. They all treat her with tremendous respect. None of them are baptised and I don't think any of those that have returned to China have continued their study.
She's also in contact with Witnesses in Beijing. They are ther under the auspices of learning Chinese but are missionary sleeper cells. They email each other in a kind of code stripped of any religious/spiritual terminology in case it's read.
Here they have a Mandarin congregation and in Glasgow they have Mandarin and Cantonese congregations and she's been to Belfast for a circuit assembly and Birmingham for the district assembly.
It's all the rage.

Could You Stay Friends With Someone Who Visited Prostitutes?
by Englishman ina while back, an aquaintance of mine told me that he liked to visit prostitutes.
although we weren't that close, i'd worked on and off with him over the years.
i knew his wife too and would often see her around town.. he'd told me that when he had something to celebrate, like his birthday or maybe a commercial win, he and a pal of his would do the pubs and clubs first and then go kerb crawling until they found a pair of street girls who would play the swopsy's scene.
