  DA Update

  as some of you know, i sent a letter to the elders of my last congregation disassociating myself from jehovah's witnesses.

  i was originally going to wait, as my mother, who's 81, is very ill with cancer.

  she's not expected to live very long.

  That's a sad story, I found most people in my old congregation more genuine than that, I guess it all depends on the type of people, usually the congregation announced things like that, "so and so is in the hospital and is accepting visitors." - makes me sad to know not enough people made the effort to come and see your mom.

  I agree with Gopher and I can't say it better so..

  "You did the right thing in DA'ing from the congregation, and it sounds like your mother well understands why."

  It's nice to have support from your family members.

  kaxfenixot, the internet is a great tool for connecting communities together, I've just joined as well and I love reading all the interesting ideas and diverse perspectives, I think you'll find (as I have) most people in this forum are genuine and caring and have a positive view of life, it's like a fresh breath of clean air.. the kind the Watchtower Society doesn't want you to know about. Enjoy!

  A conversation with my JW sister

  before i tell you about the conversation, i need to give you some background.

  i am 62 and my jw sister is 58. i left the religion when i was 22. that was 40 years ago.

  in 1981, she read the hard stance article about those who have left and did not talk to me in more than a cursory way for 15 years.

  Hmm all too familiar to me... the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society never lets go of their bleak outlook on life today, this is how they maintain power and control of their followers. My sister would say the same thing, it's a direct lack of education and it's fear that stops them from expanding their knowledge of the world and life around them. Sad when I think about it, I guess I try not to.. Larc it's great that you and your sister are talking after 15 years of silence (sad when I think about the wasted time) but still nice to have that connection again.

  I also find it very interesting that someone chose this subject to compose as a print, not sure whom the artist is but you are right it looks like a print rather then a painting, I'll take a closer look next time Im downtown.

  I've lived in Aylmer Que a few years ago and used to go to the 'Greenpark'? congregation, it was the only English speaking hall serving Aylmer Quebec in fact my family still goes to that hall. Good luck with all your endeavors to help your friend Sylvie! It's a shame the WTS keeps families apart the way they do.
