Poll - What kind of Ancient People are YOU???
by LittleToe inare you: a minority group called "jew" a majority group called "greek" a minority group called "christian"
to believe in christ, the jews asked for a powerful sign, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the greeks appealed to logic and wisdom, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the christians simply believed, and treated it as a personal calling.. which category do you believe you fall into 1, 2 or 3?.
.. 1cor.1:22-25 - the message.

Fictional Conversation at the Door
by Farkel intwo dubs approach a door and one of them ever-so-quietly knocks..... .
dub gives standard starting presentation about how screwed up everything is in the world, and about the "wonderful" promise god has made to us to fix it all.... .
"don't you people believe that your god will kill everyone who isn't a member of your religion?

Is Mankind Born Evil....or Good?
by Farkel inmany ancients including confucious and lao tzu took opposing views about this subject and their arguments are fascinating to read.
their arguments are nearly 2,500 years old.
the greeks also lively debated this question.. of course, as dubs (and in fact, in most christian faiths) we were taught that man was born inherently evil, and the quest is to overcome that and work towards the good.

I imagine the greatest sin is selfishness.
The greatest sin to mankind may also be selflessness as if everybody was selfless we would not be working for our own good but for the good of everything else, therefore we would be putting ourselves in a position of less importance which in turn may well lead to our eventual demise as a species.

blackout,
: When you are talking about psychology you can't use absolutes, it doesnt work as no one and nothing is absolutely good or evil by anyones definition.
Not even God. Not even Jesus? Not even Hitler? By your definition above, the answer is "yes!" Well, THAT is interesting.
I'll get to the other comments, since the commentors insist upon it!
Farkel
Hi Farkel
You are right, not Jesus not Hitler. As for God, who is he? If he exists I would have to say the above applies to him also, especially if you mean the biblical god.
Perhaps I should not have said "by anyones definition" as some have differing beliefs in God and would define him as perfectly good.

so far Im still sticking with neither.
Farkel, You asked the question, Why are some babies born to good and loving parents and turn out evil?
Surely the parents are not wholey and perfectly good? Other influences are also in the childs life. Teachers, television, priests, friends. When you are talking about psychology you can't use absolutes, it doesnt work as no one and nothing is absolutely good or evil by anyones definition.

Any Advice - Afteraffects of taking the Reality Pill
by dobby ini have been posting on this board on and off for about two years now.
it has been a tremendous help to me to read other people's experiences, to laugh, cry and just plain identify.
however, something weird is going on with me in the last six months and i am totally freaked out.

What Ravyn said.
Also, one thing Ive learnt since leaving dubdom is that life is about change and growth. In 2 months you'll feel differently to how you do now. As a Dub everything was so black and white and we had a set of rules and morals and a life code to believe in, it rarely changed. Life isn't like that. Things change all the time and our being able to adapt to that change is important.
Your fear of death at the moment may be a reaction to your realisation of this. Death is the ultimate change in state, we can have no control of it. Letting go of being a dub, to a certain extent means letting go of having to always be in controll and controlled.
Just my thoughts, Id recomend councelling, I've had some and it helped. I'd also recomend reading Anthony Robbins, anything by him to get started.

New here, got a question
by kj ini just wanted to let you know how much i have enjoyed reading your posts.
i am not and have never been a jw, but my husband and i both have a lot of family who are.
my mother was sucked into it in 1999. i have a question, is it true that jws are forbidden to set foot in any church other than the kingdom hall?

Yep, well I have never been into a church, I still am having trouble getting over that one. It must have been strong in me because when I was about 4 yo I pointed out a church to my parents and said "'hovah gunna choong that down, isn't he mum." They thought it was pretty funny and it was a family story for years. I used to have trouble even looking at a church.

Apparently Pinatas are ' no big deal'. What's next? Birthdays?
by xjw_b12 ini always thought the society frowned upon the use of pinatas, if not discouraging the use of them all together.
apparently the wts has decided to avoid insulting the brothers in mexico.
