at the latest circuit assembly, i noticed that quite a few young male jws (or at least attending youths), say sixteen upward and mostly mixed race, are skin headed.
apart from that, they are quite well dressed.
that way, elders won't reprove them for their long hair ... looks like an obvious defying message to a rigid organization.

The actual, real 'skinhead' movement from the late 1960s, had NOTHING to do with racism .

Amazing how things get corrupted over a very brief period of time.
Some of what the skin-movement originated out of, was from the U.K. and it was pretty cool.
I'll elaborate more later.
But yeah, the buzzed-off hair is not too uncommon anymore.

The turtles? Well, it was not uncommon for kids to just grab any baby turtle that did not get away in time and raise it. I was surprised, some of those little gaffers, survived. But, they got bigger and sometimes a bit too aggressive. Kids thought turtles would be fine on Shreddies, Corn Flakes and Lucky Charms, but this was not the case.
Eventually, come spring or early summer, you had to let them go into the creeks and rivers.
NONE of us had snapping turtles, we were hugely afraid of those things. Rumour had it, they'd wait for you to take a pee in the water and snap off your P _ _ _ S.
X-Ray goggles, I remember those and the dumb ad you'd see of a woman's dress being somewhat transparent with some geeky guy smiling ear to ear. I never saw a pair, but we did laugh about having them at school.

Watchtower apologist, me? When I arrived here and some of the other former JW forums: no. I was actually very different 10+ years ago upon arriving at any on-line exJW forum. I was more like:
That eventually takes up far too much energy and accomplished not too bloody much in the long haul.
But I can only speak for myself; I can understand the 'apologist' stand for a period of time, that's a normal transition from being a JW to being either a faded JW, DF'd, DA'd or what have you. Even after I left, I still had doubts, but would not put them down. But as years went by and I slowly started to come to terms with my leaving and other information that I discovered, I was far from being an apologist. I was furious!
But those days are long behind me, thank goodness.

Finally-Free, I agree about the initial resistance of people when they're presented with the 'scary' facts for the first time; but as you added, there are those who KNOW all about those very things, yet still make excuses. <That puzzles me even further. You can present many items, scriptures, anecdotes, personal experiences and they're like scolding an animal.
They hear their name, but not much else.
As far as I know, there's little 'Harm Reduction' interventions out there for Christ-Junkies.
There are believers; don't get me wrong: it's just that they operate probably like him. < that's probably the key.
There are those who think they know him; but will ram his edicts down your throat or wear it like a placard (LOOK AT ME)

I was directing my sarcasm at folks who have either been JWs; or are longtime standing JW apologists (trolls in my humble opinion) [waiting for a few scathing remarks from some old-timers].
The cartoon is a metaphor.
You can share with some individuals on this site that 'seem' to seek our advice and or grasp our attention, but do everything contrary to what we've share with them.
You can write hundreds of scriptures; share heartbreaking personal stories about your time as a Jehovah's Witness, and it'll be ignored, never acknowledged and well....I THINK...you get my "GINGER" metaphor.
