  What song sums up your JW experience?

  its got to be rage against the machine, "killing in the name of" .

  just had the bassline to this song rumbling through my head, havent heard it for ages though .

  You know, as I read through the entire list of songs, many I certainly could identify with.

  When I left in the spring of 1984, I remember a song by The Alan Parsons Project. It was on the radio when I was leaving the meeting with the elders.

  The song was off of the album: Ammonia Avenue

  The song: Don't Answer Me

  Not that it particularly has to deal with my experience as a JW, but more like the end of it. A song that reminds me of that fateful day, so many years ago, when one of the elders drove me to the subway, and that song was on the radio. I'll never forget it.

  R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" I have heard many times, and yes, it still stands the test of time. Metalica's "Unforgiven", yup...I remember that one too.

  Great contributions. I really like this topic, considering how much emphasis was put on NOT listening to particular types of music, while we were all in the borg.

  School report

  well my first week is over whew i am really enjoying my classes.

  my creative writing teacher has her doctorate and studied in chicago and england but i had no idea we had to read our stuff aloud, my experience in hs was you wrote and submitted it to the teacher.

  i guess my face turned bright red when she told us lol i am very closed about my writing so this will be weird for me.

  I am always so happy and thrilled to read about XJWs either returning to school or enrolling at college or university. This is such a great thing.

  Personally, I went back to college when I was 30. Never regretted it. It was so neat being in a scholastics environment. It does the mind and body, a world of good.

  Glad to read such things, such positive feedback and words.

  If you can return to school, whatever that may be: you'll never regret it. Trust me!

  Making it "through" to the other side...

  i've been away for some time - lots of work and family stuff keeping me busy.

  i was reading through a lot of the posts this evening catching up and there are so many new people here!

  so to all of you who are just now searching for an answer, to those that are scared of leaving, or scared that you've been df'd, or scared of armageddon - i want to let you know what it's like on the other side - when you've finally made it through all the fear, the guilt, the sorrow, and have healed.. there is a feeling of freedom now that i can not explain to anyone still in - in fact, even people who were not once jw's don't understand because they don't know what it was like to be in "chains".

  Dawn, what a lovely post.

  I have been away from the Borg for a long while, but just being on this site, speaks for itself: it made a significant impact on my life.

  When I read what you wrote, thinking back, I am sure if I had that kind of encouragement and warmth, it would have been easier and not so horrible, scary, alone and desolate.

  How I got to where I am at now? Mystifies even me. Almost 19 years later, it still remains in my memory. The good thing about today: I N T E R N E T

  Can't stop it, and we can disseminate information so much more quickly and efficiently and meet up with like-minded individuals in real time, 24/7. I wish I had this back in 1984.

  Reading your post, also made my morning. Congratulations Dawn, all the best to you.

  Society's damage limitation article.

  troubled by reports of the very problems that were supposed to be only the mark of false religions peadophilia (and hiding it) and hypocrisy (supporting the un) many honest hearted jws, it seems, have slowed down their meeting attendance and field ministry.

  what has the society done to calm these very real worries concerning actual, not imagined, problems.. .

  simple.

  You know, it seems like no matter what REALLY happens, the WTBTS seem to cover every angle.

  TV/Radio/Newsprint - when presented back to them, they seem to have 'an answer for everything'. Sheesh!

  Sad...really sad to think that this works at Kingdom Halls around the world.

  Qwerty, I need your honest opinion: Should I keep the blinds up (white/green) behind me, or get curtains instead?

  It's a bit dark over here in eastern North America still, so I'll tell you, they are kinda like venetian blinds, but well...you can see them, they're off to my left.

  WHAT SHUD HAPPEN TO THE PILOTS..........

  what do you think should happen to the two american pilots who fired on and killed the 4 canadians over in afganistan last year in the friendly fire incident?

  this is a hard one.

  as a canadian, i fully support the usa and obviously this disaster was not intentional and i'm sure the pilots must feel awful about it.

  Oh the 'pills'. I just read about that within the last 24/36 hours. I also heard about the use of 'pills' by the pilots in question, on CBC radio yesterday.

  It'll be interesting what facts are brought forward when this investigation is over. Once the findings are finally made public and recommendations are written up, let's hope...this stuff doesn't happen again.

  I grew up in an Armed Forces family. I have family still with the CAF (Canadian Armed Forces/UN Peacekeeping). Friendly Fire (the oxymoron of the century) is something they are all too familiar with. The issue of Land Mines is another scary reality. Soldiers of all nations and civilians are constantly at risk.

  Despite the horrific events of last year, I hope that justice is metted out. I do not wish to see any of these men placed on death row. They should be relieved of their duties as fighter pilots and air force personnel.

  As I had mentioned, living with that guilt over your head, for the rest of your life: punishment I could not bear.

  Let's see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

  anyways, i was a teenager in eastern canada, new brunswick to be specific.

  Hi Belbab, yes...I do recall a family by the name of Sonmor. Most of the ones I had met were living in the Moncton area. But they seemed to have a connection to the Fredericton-Oromocto area.

  I wish I could remember names, but unfortunately, I cannot. I has been well over 20 years ago now.

  Once attending a KH north of Toronto, several years ago, I ran into relatives of the NB Sonmor's. It seemed like their family, and extended family were heavily into the WTBTS.

  Perhaps a name or two would ring a bell, but honestly, I'd be guessing at best. I was not close to them, but had certainly remembered meeting them.

  Thanks for posting that, it did bring back a memory.

  we have had some pretty amasing classic comedy in britian over the years.. faulty towers, the office, alan partridge,ali g etc.mind you weve had some very crap sit-com 2.4 kids etc.. who does it better the brits or the yanks?.

  sorry ozzies cant think of any from down under.

  Just to mention a few more: Wayne & Shuster; This Hour Has 22 Minutes (it rocks!); SCTV and a bunch more. These ones, both new and old, still crack me up.

  Has anyone played a JW song backwards?

  some modern music has had subliminal messages encripted into it.

  some people may or may not believe that, but i'm sure the wts has written of the 'danger' of subliminals in rock music etc.

  has anyone ever tested the wts kingdom melodies to see if that has any subliminal messages?
