  Anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

  today is the 29th anniversary of the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald.

  i've been fascinated with this story since i saw a special about it on the discovery channel 7 or 8 years ago.

  one day i would love to whitefish point, michigan to see the ship's bell.

  This is a great site, albeit pretty amateur looking, but worthy of a read.

  For those unfamiliar with Lake Superior, it's pretty big. The dimensions are astounding. Some countries in Europe are smaller than the lake; other lakes down the chain as well.

  Square Miles: 31,700

  Length: 350 miles

  Width: 160 miles

  Maximum Depth: 1,333 feet

  Side note, the deepest lake in North America is: Great Slave Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories at 2, 015 feet deep (11,031 sq. miles).

  The Cariboo shoal.

  Apparently; correct me you shipwreck purists, part of the ship is in the United States; the other part is in Canada.

  I remember something vaguely about this. Given the incredible depth of Lake Superior; underlying shoals and rogue waves, an intense low pressure system over that part of Lake Superiro, I'm sure, contributed to the Edmund Fitzgerald's demise.

  Considering the size of this Laker, it is, indeed, a remarkable story of shipping on the Great Lakes of North America.

  There is some interesting on-line facts for trivia buffs and the curious.

  I will venture to find the one I found the most intricate and most interesting of 'Great Lakes' shipwrecks on-line, and post it here...later on.

  "The witch of November"...indeed.

  these people, even while i was still a practicing jw, were incredibly kind and loving to me.

  i don't know if these people are still jws; if they are even living in this part of ontario.

  What languages do you speak?

  what languages do you speak/write/read (can be ancient ones as well)??

  i speak/write/read polish, english and russian.

  i know basic swedish and some survival phrases in finnish as well.

  English of course.

  French (more Quebecois), I need to be immersed in it for a day to become quicker at my processing/replying in conversation.

  Tagalog (Filipino). Lived in the Philippines for an extended period of time. I mastered the basics with intense immersion. If anyone thinks that Tagalog is based on Spanish: dead wrong. It's similar to many Malay-Polynesian dialects. You will hear some Spanish words (colonialist days), but you'll hear way more English mixed in with Tagalog and/or other Filipino languages: Illocano, Cebuano, Pangalatok, Kapampangan, Ilongo to name but a few.

  I think my impromtu visit to the extreme southern region of southwestern Ontario this past August, has remained with me.

  Where I was: Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

  It was awesome, heading to Canada's most southerly region. Essex-Kent counties.

  My ex-JW buddy accompanied me (cherry). His great-grandparents were from that region of SW Ontario. Some lovely Michigan exJWs made their way across the river: Outnfree & kidneybean. They are/were awesome.

  I dunno, but everytime I get into one of my MOTOWN modes, I think of this part of SW Ontario. Right across the river: DETROIT. Home of Motown and so much more.

  My mind brings me to old cars/vehicles from that time. The 1950s and early 1960s.

  In my avatar, I included a car that I remember fondly: 1962 Ford Galaxie 500.

  I remember seeing some old black & white video footage of the First Lady (J. Kennedy) stepping out of a light coloured Ford Galaxie 500.

  Anyone have any of a car from the year of their birth?

  I need loving hearts to send help to another EX-JW

  i am asking any who could take the time-to send encouragement to an ex jw-she was raised as one- her mother died for refusing blood...she married out of the org- & was dfellowshipped.

  the fellow she married was an alcholic---didnt understand her feelings about being ousted!!!!

  !a couple of months ago she tried to kill herself.why????

  I hope that anyone who may have missed this message started by Mouthy the first time, will see it here again now.

  This person to whom we are referring to is an absolute charm.

  She has to be one of the kindest, warmest and most hospitable persons I have ever encountered.

  Not bitter, nary a bad word to be heard about 'anyone'.

  For what it's worth, anyone who feels like sending this kind-hearted exJW individual a message of encouragement and love, by all means, private message MOUTHY. She'll give you the information.

  Thanks to the Michigan folks who wrote me back (via e-mail), I was very thankful for your concern.

  Let's send a little love and concern 'her' way and help make her existance here, a welcome and worthwhile return.

  If this is who I think it is: (Rosalyn), she's one helluva lady.

  For those of you who met her during the Labour Day 2003 Apostafest in Detroit, you know who she is.

  She's a lovely person.

  I am shocked to read this. I need to make a journey down the 401 to Woodstock.

  She's too precious. A lovely person; even the Michigan apostates had fun with (our) accents, thinking we (myself and Rosalyn) were like the actors from the movie FARGO.

  I'm heart broken to read this.

  The episode of "Conky", Bubble's long lost doll.

  That one had me in pain. I had more tears rolling down my face than a mafia funeral.

  Mind you, at Toronto's Gay Pride Parade 2004, "Leahy and sidekick" were there. I couldn't believe it. That tells you about their popularity.

  Excellent show: lude, crude and rude.

  But...funny as hell.

  last november's toronto apostafest was pretty cool, but meeting country girl for the first time, well....she's just a freakin' darling!

  I'm so thrilled, still enamoured by your presence up here in Toronto.

  She rocked.

  Her husband John, he's great. As I have indicated before, he had me in stitches more than a few times. He's a great person.

  Athene is everyones best big sister.

  I wish she was my 'real' big sister; in some ways, well ... maybe she is.

  We hung out together and I have to admit, I hated to see her go. We just hit it off like family, it was surreal.

  For those of you who are wishing to meet "Country Girl" in-person, you're in for a real treat.

  She's the nicest person you could ever hope to meet.

  I miss her something fierce right now.

  I do mean that.
