There's inexhaustive information about 'then' American Blacks/African-Americans fleeing the United States to freedom up here in Canada.
Uncle Tom's cabin, in southwestern Ontario.
Do a search on Canada's vignettes regarding this matter on YouTube.com - there's plenty.
In Atlantic Canada where my family originate. When 1776 rolled around; anyone who wanted freedom; whomever could get to any Atlantic port, could have freedom by heading to Nova Scotia.
It wasn't perfect; far from it. They suffered terribly, yet over many years - toiling and progressing their way, they have become some of THE most outstanding Canadians, ever.
To my American neighbours; whether you love or hate your president: we were very proud of you for being able to vote in a president whom had parentage of both sides of the ethnic helix.
It can only get better.

That was my last meeting. It was the Sunday afternoon Watchtower meeting. I remember it being a very mild yet grey sky day in Toronto. I had been struggling with so many things; on the verge of suicide even, but I thought I'll go to 'keep up with appearances'. I sat at the back of the hall that afternoon. I hadn't been to meetings in nearly 6-8 weeks.
Prior to that, in the months of October and November, I was trying my damnest to be an Auxiliary Pioneer. I even attended extra Circuit Assemblies to help keep up my so-called 'spirituality'. Bah! What a fool I was. I did my best going out in service; feeling hypocritical yet wanting to believe what I was sharing with others: was true and/or help the householder I was visiting.
My last door, was in November 1983. I wrote about it here; it's buried way deep on this site. But it was a profound experience; one that I cannot forget. I remember the area I was in (Etobicoke, ON.) in western Toronto, but the street? Unfortunately I do not remember. It was a long chain of events that rendered me disillusioned, unhappy, unfulfilled, let down, depressed and (my thinking then) unloved by Jehovah. <really! I really thought: 'that is it he has given up on me, my prayers are NEVER answered'. And Pray I DID! but nothing changed no matter how many times I went out in service; pioneered; extra assemblies .... NOTHING MATTERED! NOTHING CHANGED!
I knew January 1, 1984, was my last meeting.
One couple did come up to me to express that they missed me. Otherwise, I felt invisible. Yes, the 'LOVE' - the 'fake' love; Jehovah's Witnesses are the masters of their own deception; so much so they're deceived by it as well, despite the blatant lack thereof.
Great reading these 'Last Meeting' posts.
Finally-Free: that's one hell of a thing to share with 'any' husband; that and many other things must've felt like the proverbial 'straw that broke the camel's back'.

Cantleave: well I am going to have to look into all those posts of yours I have missed.
NotACaptive: thank you for a well written reply; sorry I do not know you (here), but I am very pleased to see you have taken hold of your life and reclaimed it. Excellent! That is why sites like this, are SO important! You are living proof of that. All the best to you: Maeve.
Tatiana: good heavens! someone from when I was here more often (2003-2004). I am glad to read that you are over the hump - and now coasting nicely. Sure, why not go to the other boards and educate the lost souls.
I am here for awhile; just nice to reacquaint myself.
For those who think this site is nasty: oh man! I remember things being far more heated and combative. Enjoying the newbie posts and laughing at some of the (apologists). Hopefully, the new light will dim sooner rather than later.

Thanks folks; just re-reading some of the posts regarding this 'Generation' thing. They're still beating that one to death, aren't they? When will they ever learn? They won't; long as the minions nod in approval, the new light (it's not incandescent anymore is it?) will conitunally be pitched from the platform. What a freakin' strangle hold these buggers have.
Shamus: I've shared pizza with him; he did wash his hands ... I think. Besides, he wears lip gloss - it didn't taste THAT bad. Looking at his latest photo, I do believe it's time for a shave and wash there Shamus.
Hey Scully. Yeah, it's been awhile. Behaving myself (I know - you're shaking your head). Really!
CountryGirl, I know isn't that a coincidence. Always a pleasure, but I talk to you all the freakin time anyways. Hehee!
BlackSheep, I remember you from before. Love the puppy pic and cotton-batten vomit.
Minimus. The red dot; but I remember it when the 'dot' actually danced a little on the old forum.
Jimmy Page; RosePetal; Lozhasleft; JamieBowers; tec and MrsJones5: pleased to meet you all.
Stillajwexelder: you were here when I first dropped-in here back in early 2003.
Yes, lots of newbies. Hardly recognize anyone; except for a few names that have been here from way way back.
As for the new AIC: wasn't there a line in the movie: "OFF WITH HER HEAD" ? Does that still apply?
Thanks for the posts. It's been awhile; despite intermittent posts here and there.

Your guilty pleasures...
by MrFreeze inwhen you were a witness, or if you still are, what types of movies/games/tv shows/books/other activities did you enjoy that the society might not find too appropriate for jdubs.
for me here's a list of things i enjoyed that wouldn't have made the friends too pleased but that i rather enjoyed.. movies: all the best movies are rated r. whether it be language, violence, or sex.
you'd be hard pressed to find a movie made in the last 20 years that is really good that isn't rated r. some movies i enjoyed that the friends wouldn't have wanted me to be seeing: the matrix, godfather, godfather 2, goodfellas, american history x, office space, the pianist, shawshank redemption, the shining.

My guilty pleasure has always been music: but the stuff we were supposed to turf (late 1970s); I couldn't bear to part with.
Even though I did: I ended up post-JW, buying back all my old records, cassettes, CDs and such.

For me, if that impossible scenario were to arise; the irony that an all knowing god/God, doesn't know my every thought? That, would baffle me beyond words or explanation.
To explain it would be redundancy at its worst.

Possible-San: that was hilarious. Thank you for sharing that.
I believe that that was none other than Lawanda Page, former 'Aunt Esther' character from 1970s sitcom: Sanford & Son.
Excellent! Howled with laughter watching that.
