Should SARS be getting more attention?
by Simon in.
sars, the new deadly virus that seems to be spreading quickly round the world, is very worrying but is not getting much attention i think because of the war.. scientists have been saying for some times that we are overdue for a pandemic of spanish flu proportions and this could be it !.
in just a few days / weeks it seems to have reached most major countries, infected thousands and killed more people than the iraqi's have.. should we be concerned?

They Finally Did It
by kelpie inmy parents have finally disowned me.. my dad called yesturday and told me to get the "dogs of my mothers back" about my upcoming wedding.. i told him that i havent put anyone on mum's back and if they are saying it, its because they want to and don't agree with what he and mum are doing.
i said that mum can speak for herself and he said that she and will and the next time you speak to your mother she will tell you that we dont want to ever speak to or see you again...".
at this point in the conversation i hung up the phone in his ear.

Hey ((((((((Kelpie))))))))). Sorry to hear of this. I know the wound is fresh, but the hurt will eventually become a dull one.
It sounds like you are not alone and that you have support from your fiance and sister.
At times, I have felt like an orphan, but I have a wonderful husband and my in-laws love me to, that is all the family I need. Actually I feel closer to my in-laws than I ever was with my parents, because they are supportive of me.
When you do get married and build a life of your own, its your parents that are going to miss out. Your parents are the ones that are going to be hurting more than you because they are stuck in a religion that doesn't allow them to love you unconditionally.
I was just saying to my hubby,xjw_b12 last night that we are so busy with our close friends, that we barely have weekends to ourselves because we are socializing so much, that keeps me content with my life as it is now.
Take care Kim.

Why I'm here: Non-JW seeking advice
by bebu inas i've mentioned in an earlier post, i am not a jw.
my dear neighbor is.
we get along so great, i was surprised when i learned that dubs were not supposed to have "worldly" friends.. this relationship kind of started by accident.

I agree with Viv. you sound like a wonderful friend, just keep doing what your doing.
Maybe one day she'll come around knowing that she has a friend like you that she can turn to.
Right now, she's trapped in an abusive marriage and if she were to leave, she would definitely be shunned and that is something scary for jw's because they feel lost and feel like theres no where to go.

Mercedes. Get the Hell out of there.
My ex-husband (an elders son) was like that. Thought of only himself. Gave me the bare necessities in life, when he'd go out with his buddies every Friday night drinking and carousing the town not coming in until 4 a.m. in the morning, sometimes not coming home at all. Only to find lipstick on his collar and him denying, denying, denying. I was with the sorry bastard for two years, I finally left him when I was five months pregnant.
Dump his sorry ass, you deserve better.

At 15 I was asked to make the choice of staying and abiding by the rules and if not, to leave. I opted for the reluctantly abiding by the rules, of course as long as they didn't find out I was still breaking them it was okay. Not fun living a lie.
But where was I suppose to go at age 15?
