Jesika, I hadn't read your story until now, but I am sooo thankful you have come up victorious! I also am thankful to have hope. One of my fears is that my parents will do this to me. The abuse they have dished out my entire life up to this week is horrible and my children will NOT EVER be with them without their daddy or I present. As I said, your story gives me hope! {{{HUGS!!!}}}

some i remember off the top of my head are tie bars, tie clips, polyester suits, wide ties... we used to have brothers who would "compete" with designer cologne like polo, etc.. the memorial was always a fashion show.. yellowlab

One of the things we are shouting HIP HIP HURRAY over is...
NO MORE DRESSES/SKIRTS/PANTYHOSE/PUMPS!!!!
NO MORE SUITS/DRESS SHIRTS/TIES!!!!
I swear, I got so sick of people looking down their noses at my baby boys because I wouldn't dress them in a suit and tie when they were babies and toddlers!
We've already revamped our wardrobe. Hubby's grown his much longed-for goatee. hehehe I must say, he looks HOT! My daughter and I got our ears triple pierced (this is a no-no in some cong...you can't be used on the platform for "extra" things). Our son is wanting his dark hair highlighted at the tips. We aren't doing this because we desire to be rebellious. It's just that now we can and there is not reason not to! We are so enjoying LIFE and not having to live it by other people's rules.
I never understood it. We'd sit at the meetings learning about those terrible scribes and pharisees who added to the law and made it burdensome and pat ourselves on the backs as JW's. And they weren't adding burdens?! It never made any sense to me!

Okay. So it was a joke. History on Brother Dave Crockett: He and another brother lived together as pioneers when I was young. Sick thing was that I heard speculation among brothers and sisters as a little girl that they "might be gay." Two guys can't live together and not be gay, right? Anyway, both ended up at Bethel and the other of the two is on one of the JW videos (Rick something-or-another). Not sure what happened to Dave, so I just wondered if he wasn't really serving in that log-hall. hehehe

Damage control
by Gig ini could spend many of your minutes describing how helpful this forum has been for me, suffice it to say that it's the way things should be...offer an idea and everybody else have opportunity to put it on the table too, pro or con.
my opinion is that jw's haven't realized (or have been denied) the benefits of such an appropriate arrangement that also provides the best method for discovery and growth.. my offering today is prompted by what i've found to be a recurring theme here...one that never fails to bother me.
as many witnesses "get out", too often (for me) they along with now rejecting the wts, reject many of the good things the wts tried, however horribly, to represent.

acsot...Can't believe I didn't address that myself! I find myself thinking and feeling the same way you do. Now if I only had time to do all this reading I want to do while raising and homeschooling my 4! :) Still going to start with reading the KJV all the way through on my own, and then I'll go from there. Thanks for addressing this! :)

Thank you so much for this post, Gig. Hubby and I have been discussing this very thing, especially with our children. The good things we have been taught from the Bible do not just get tossed out the window because we are leaving the JWs. We still believe so many things the Bible teaches. Love, morality, accountability, etc. We surely dont plan on murdering, stealing, etc.!
However, we are personally still struggling with religion. We are even having a hard time knowing how to pray to God and are currently re-learning how to do that. Hubby says hell never be part of a religion, nor anything structured to study the Bible. A small part of me wants the fellowship, a huge part of me doesnt. We wouldnt even begin to know how to find a group that isnt a sectarian, self-righteous denomination.
My current goal is to pick up the Bible and begin reading it on my own. The KJV I believe is what Ill start with. (Did I say that out loud?! Hehe My horns and tail must be growing in nicely. Lol) After I do that and begin developing MY new relationship with my Heavenly Father, then I will see where my heart leads me. I will just even openly confess, I have had doubts in the existence of Almighty God lately. Its been a very scary, confusing, upsetting feeling and I need to work on finding my way through this.
Anyone else where I am today?
RubaDubI was writing this as you posted and I sooo appreciated your comment!!! Touche!!!

Are you marked for life?
by JH in.
for those who were witnesses, and passed many years there, do you feel as if you are scarred for life by this experience?.

Unfortunately, yes. I can only hope the pain gets duller as time goes on.
What breaks my heart is seeing our children suffer as they witness the way JW family and friends are treating us now. It's been really bad. We've received threats (legal action against us), hate filled emails, and then the lies that are spreading about us are just unbelievable.
Our kids range in ages from toddler to preteen. Thankfully the toddler is blissfully ignorant of all that is happening! The rest of us aren't sleeping at night and are really shook up over the recent events.
We are looking forward to getting past this and moving on with our lives, but I know we will always have this vivid scar and memories that will never go away.

Hope this comic hasn't been shared already...
by truthseekers2 inhubby and i are going through a very stressful time right now.
the cards are falling all around us and we are now receiving word from family and "friends" that we are no longer welcome in their lives even though we have not shared any views with anyone but our parents, nor have we formally disassociated ourselves.
hubby found sunday's "non sequitur" comic very ironic and i thought you all may enjoy it.

A big load of crap
by somebody inif this isn't a big load of bullcrap, i don't know what is!
4/92 kingdom ministry while the information presented in our kingdom ministry is in the form of suggestions and not rigid rules, it is still a fine source of reference material that should be a part of each congregation kingdom hall library.. .
can you imagine what would happen to jws who have disfellowshipped and da'd family members who didn't obey the rigid rules on how to treat their family members in the august 2002 kingdom ministry?

Wow, Gwen. How interesting! Some great food for thought. Here's the article in full:
Question
Box Should the congregation keep a file of Our Kingdom Ministry? In the May 1972 issue of the Kingdom Ministry, it was pointed out that it is advisable to keep in the Kingdom Hall library a file for the monthly editions of Our Kingdom Ministry for reference purposes. It continues to be appropriate to maintain such a file in each Kingdom Hall library for the use of the elders and the publishers.
With such a file available, publishers can refer to past material bearing on field service presentations, conducting Bible studies, making return visits, and so forth. Good ideas for use in the ministry can be found. From time to time, current issues of Our Kingdom Ministry refer to issues that were published before some of the brothers were associated with the congregation. Newly associated ones can benefit if the file is kept. One of the newly designed Watchtower file cases could be used to store past copies of Our Kingdom Ministry at the Kingdom Hall.
The elders should assign either the Theocratic Ministry School overseer or a qualified ministerial servant to make sure that this file is kept up-to-date month by month. While the information presented in Our Kingdom Ministry is in the form of suggestions and not rigid rules, it is still a fine source of reference material that should be a part of each congregation Kingdom Hall library. Back issues of Our Kingdom Ministry cannot be ordered from Brooklyn, however.

Hi! Just wanted to give an update. I can't remember my password to my previous screename nor the email account I made for it, so I had to make a new one. My husband also joined the board last night as truthseekers1 so he can post as well. He's read here so much over the past several weeks. Thanks a bunch for all the various topics. Many are so enlightening.
Our family has come a long way since I last posted. We have written a letter to the elders stating that we do not want them to continue calling/knocking and we have informed our family of our recent research efforts. That is all they know for now. Hubby is trying desperately to figure out what to tell his family. My heart goes out to him. Mine are already shunning us. Yeah, real Christian. Don't pick up the phone and say how much you love us at a time like this. At least hubby's family is.
We are celebrating birthdays and living life one day at a time the way WE see fit to live it. We feel the weight of the world has been lifted from our shoulders! How to develop our own personal beliefs and stands on issues that we were once told how to live according to is overwhelming at times.
We've turned to several people for support and are amazed to hear them say they have been fervently praying for our departure from the JW's. We are trying to stay close to them because we know we will need them in the coming months. Trying to relearn how to pray is difficult. Thinking about opening a Bible is daunting. But we know it will all fall into place in time.
Our children are happy and strong. We are closer in our marriage than ever before. Anyone that is thinking of leaving, please, just do it. It all seems to fall into place. I am thankful every single day that it's finally happened for us. I know the best in life is yet to come!
