Hello all,
I'm new to this forum group. I've joined it because I've found the demoniation (JW) very interesting at a variety of levels. I'd like to get my own questions answered soon, but first I have a project regarding a Christian denomination that has to be done. As you've already guessed, I chose JW on which to do my research because I found it very interesting. The following topics are required to complete the assignment:
* The basis of authority in JW (editions of the bible most often used, literal vs. metaphorical interpretation)
* The organization of JW (church leadership, any sort of leadership "hierarchy")
* Special sacraments, liturgy, ceremonies, etc.
* JW attitudes toward other religious and spiritual traditions (outside of JW or even Christianity)
* JW perspective on social issues including: ordination of women, gay/lesbian, abortion, poverty etc.
* JW perspective on denominationalism (how JW became, as a demoniation of Christianity. Your thoughts on the Christian church being so sub-divided)
Please post ANY information or thoughts that you personally have, or links you may have to information related to the above topics.
Please help me get through this so that I can get on to my more personal questions!
Thanks,
WhiteRaven
PS A requirement of the assignment is that we have an interview with a person who is actively involved in the denomination. Regarding JW, I don't know if this would be a priest, minister, or just a member of the community. If you are interested in being interviewed to represent the views of the Jehovah's witnesses, please email me at [email protected] (the email that is posted under this username is becoming swamped with SPAM). I think it would be fun to conduct this interview with someone outside of my community on a private chat channel that I could easily setup.
