having looked at all the impressive us war ships i would love to understand the difference between a destroyer and a cruiser.
they have the same speed and approx.
Just a guess, but cruisers are heavier than destroyers and while carrying heavier weaponry they tend to be a bit slower than destroyers. DDEs were used as escorts during WWII as they could travel faster to the spot where submarines were sighted and unload their depth charges.
Perhaps my memory stems more from the days of WWII, but cruisers were big honkin' ships and destroyers were more sleek and streamlined. Things must have changed if you say they're now the same size!

Before finding this board I believed that my JW mother was psychotic as she beat the living daylights out of me on a regular basis. I had 3 skull fractures before I was eleven years old.
She was the rare woman who held a 'servant' position in the congregation due to lack of qualified men and insisted that I be a perfect child, subservient in every respect so that her position would not be threatened. She was a full-time pioneer in the days when you had to have 100 hours per month and that meant that as a child I had to fill in at home doing what she left behind to go door to door.
It was a huge awakening to me to find that many others shared my experience of the brutality inflicted by 'loving' JW parents and relatives. Thanks, all of you for being here.

hello everyone, i was just wondering if any of you have thought of this.

i am a grown child with an aging parent.
According to what I've read in the Bible account of Jesus' life; he routinely distributed the contributions he received to those of the poor around him. The WTS sucks all the contributions into its gaping maw and gives nothing back in return to those whose lives they've ruined by their 'teachings'.

currently i'm experiencing, for the first time, the ability to make and form opinions on my own but i'm having trouble.
with no one to tell me what to do and what to think, i find there are so many places in the world that need help.
and even if i decided to follow something and make a difference in that area, what can i do to really make a difference?

First of all, take a moment to pause and take a deep breath. Look around you in your own neighborhood. Are there people you can help without spending gobs of money? Like taking an elderly neighbor to a doctor appointment. Or picking up some groceries for someone who no longer drives.
Decide what matters most to you. If donating to a particular charity is beyond your financial ability, consider volunteering if it is a charity you feel is truly making a difference. They can always use people to answer phones and send out mailings.
Let your heart guide and direct you. You will find your niche where you are wanted, needed and appreciated.

I'm afraid that the regime of Sodamn Insane will lure the coalition troops into Baghdad and then set off some kind of a chemical, biological or dirty bomb. It wouldn't surprise me if he thought the sacrifice of the Iraqi civilians justifiable if he could kill Americans.

Any non-human creature you share your life with is a pet. Mine are adopted from Animal Control, found as strays and not claimed or flung at my home by people too lazy to take them to Animal Control.
You can even have a pet rock! Just don't fling it at your neighbors house when it poops on the carpet.
i finally broke down yesterday and "did something".
i did manage to last until about 5 pm, doing nothing.. i drove down to a homebrew supply shop and bought my first beer-making kit.
i've read the directions several times, as well as done some research on the net so i feel fairly confident that i can do it.
My only experience with home brewing was a near disaster. My dad decided to brew some beer in the garage and got a wood barrel and all the stuff he needed to make the brew....this was the days before beer brewing kits....He put everything in that his recipe called for and hammered the bung in the barrel.
A few days later we heard a tremendous bang underneath the house. Fermentation had launched the bung upward and imbeded it in a large beam. Foam all over the place!!! Good thing no one was standing too close at the time it let go.
Then my mother got the idea of making wine....really bad idea. She used concord grapes well mashed up and added a little secret ingredient here and there then put them into gallon glass jugs with corks in the top.
At the time, we had a very large New Zealand White buck rabbit who had the run of the garage and back yard. He took great delight in licking the corks and the fermented liquid coming around the corks. We laughed at his antics! A few slurps of wine, a few hops in the yard then fall over and sleep it off. He was loopy for days. The wine wasn't too bad after it had 'aged' a bit.
