another wacky kool aid thread for your reading pleasure from the hardcore dubbs on jw talk dot net is here if you want to read it:.
they wax philosophical, they curse this horrible old world, they gently try to project how soon the big a will come, and then swoon when someone quotes a tidbit from a gb member that they overheard.
warning: those with weak stomachs do not read!.

i know atlatis will bring this letter to the forum.

Completly agree. Even when the Revelation book came out, as confusing as it was, it was "challenging" to study it, with all the prophecies to be explained. Many nights you would go home from Book Study with your head reeling..... even when I conducted it! I still have my original copy, that has been studied 3 or 4 times at the book study over the years. It's kind of like looking back at your HS Yearbook, looking thru it and the notes that were made.
Granted, the "understanding" of much of it changed over the years, and most of it is still speculation anyways.
But I remember really trying hard, and studying hard~
Nowadays its ..... Read paragraph,...... answer question to paragraph....... what do you need to do different....... you're a slacker.........Even many of the questions now are FEELING based instead of intellectually based.... ie: "What do you look forward to? How does Jeremiah's experience fortify you? How are you affected by this new understanding?" etc etc.
There's no meat in anything, no logical development of a particular point......just lots of PICTURES, fewer pages, coloring books and connect-the-dots(wtf?), HUGE margins, LARGE fonts, SIMPLIFIED versions of everything, and emotional MOVIES with dramatic, unrealistic acting to move you to actions based on guilt. My kids, in their teens, even see it......... More and more I see everything based on EMOTION, and FEELINGS geared toward the uneducated.... not logic, or sensibleness.

I thought I would weigh in on this topic:
This is a perfect example of the infantile jibberish that is a complete waste of time.
So let me get this straight.... we are going to waste a 10 min part at the Service Meeting by having a "discussion" of how to walk slowly and not wear the wrong shoes, and to be careful to not leave stuff in the aisles, and to not save seats that we arent going to use, and to show the common decency to let the older, infirm folks have the seats on the floor??
The dumbing-down of the brothers, treating them like they are 5th graders is a sign of 2 things....... #1: Obviously they need to be instructed on what shoes to wear and how to walk slowly. Stupid..... they are just plain dumb in general. #2: It's really sad that the general tone of meeting programs/instruction and literature topics and articles, what with the "simplified" versions of EVERYTHING..., is degrading to gradeschool levels.
No more "meat and potatoes" subjects or discussions. Service Meetings are now a repetition of "walk slowly", and "here is your tract, goodbye". Anyone with half a brain is tired of it, and either doesnt participate, or is like many (including myself) that are really seeing the larger picture, and are doing something about their own lives. It speaks volumes as to the level of intelligence of the "brothers".
It is just sickening. The level and quality of anything remotely educational and mentally stimulating and invigorating is GONE. It's like we have to program our zombies for another day of zombiness, otherwise they wont be able to function.
Oh, and we need your help to build our zombie-proof fortress.....so when can you come over and play?

To provide one more anecdote/update to my previous post.....
In all my years as a publisher, MS, and Elder, I have NEVER NEVER EVER heard someone say " I am so thankful you maintained your LOYALTY to Jehovah and SHUNNED me for so long, not even saying hi to me in passing or looking at me! It made all the difference! It really taught me to be humble!! "
NEVER. Period.

I heard this talk at the DC too, and have been mulling it over for some time. After hearing it again in this video, I was reminded of my feelings on the matter.
I have been a baptized JW for 30 years, and just recently stepped down as an elder after 9 years. Here is an experience that shows that flat-out direct shunning of ALL does not provide the best benefit:
When we still had the Book Study arrangement, Ms Harper and I were attending the KH Book Study... I was the conductor. Now for anyone that doesnt know.... if you had the KH Book study, that was where anyone who was disfellowshipped would come...ie.They werent "allowed" to attend at a private home. So, we had several that would come to the KH, and on any given night, we may have as many as 3 or 4 DF ones. We were always happy to see them, because they had made the enormous effort entailed just to be there.
There was no possible human way that we could ignore them, and treat them like pond scum. I didnt care what their "offense" was, it just wasnt right to treat them in a completely sub-human fashion. Ms Harper and I would always acknowledge their efforts, with a little wink, a nod, and even a "hi, good to see you tonight".
We always made it a practice to have "goody night" at least once a month, even at the KH, just to give the friends a small outlet to get out of the drudgery of another night at the KH. We always had a good time! On those nights, we would "break the rules" even more. Ms Harper would go to the back a few minutes early, before the meeting ended, and make some "to go" plates. As soon as the concluding prayer was said, and the DF ones would get up to leave, she would meet every one of them at the door, give them a plate, and make sure to say a few encouraging words to them on their way out. We ALWAYS wanted them to know that they were in our thoughts, and that we were NOT going to ignore them. They were NOT invisible to us, and we appreciated the HUGE amount of effort it took for them just to be there. They were a part of our little KH family too, and we loved them. We didnt care what their "offense" was that put them in that particular situation, we werent going to judge them.
We did this for a quite a while, and it reaped GREAT benefits! Some returned, some did not, but we DID get feedback from our efforts. Many of the "friends" turned up the scowling eyebrow, and we got a lot of flack for it, but in the end, I would just pull the "elder" card, and tell them to mind their own business. We took some heat, but it was worth it.
Some would be in tears, and spend half the meeting in the girls bathroom with Ms Harper, pouring out their hearts to her. Oh, the other 'sisters' would fume! She listened tho, offered a loving shoulder to cry on, and was always there for them. It went on like this for many months.
Several, and I can think of very specific individuals, that were eventually reinstated, and some who werent, came to us both later and expressed their gratitude for us "breaking the rules". The concern we showed in the little things, and the small ways that we were there for them had made all the difference in their struggles. They were truly greatful for NOT being shunned. It showed them that people were still HUMAN!
I guess my point is that complete, unabashed shunning is NOT the way to show people that you love them,.... its just not. I know firsthand, I have seen it both ways, and Ms Harper and I will ALWAYS be the first to acknowledge you for who you are, as a person with feelings and struggles of your own. What you decide to do with your life is up to you, and you should not be FORCED to do anything. Emotional blackmail is WRONG.

okay, so the other day someone posted something about the talk in 1918 givin by rutherford (also released in pamplet and the talk repeated numerous times through 1924) titled "the world has ended, millions now living will never die".
when looked up on the watchtower library, numerous times the talk is sometimes referred to as "millions now living will never die" and also "millions now living may never die".
my question is there some honest explanation as to why some times it would read "will" and other times read "may"?
Here is where a major discrepancy lies.....
If you type the phrase "Millions Now Living May Never Die" into the ONLINE SEARCH TOOL at the jw.org website, only 1 occurrence will come up, the 2010 WT.
If you type the same phrase into the WT CDROM, you get multiple occurrences. Granted, the ONLINE search tool doesnt go back very far, but it would appear, that this is a good example, along with others, of information control.
I see the future as being more and more steered away from a CDROM library, its hardly even mentioned anymore.... and more emphasis put on the website search tool. That way, your up-to-date information can be changed, and you never know it.
Suddenly, your "OLD" info wont match up to your "NEW" info, and you will be the one "left behind". Sure, you might have the accurate form of the original texts in hand, but you wont be following "mother's" instructions.
......sigh......

The change to the word "WILL" was made within a year or two after the initial release of the talk, and was forever thereafter known as the title we are all familiar with: MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE.
If you look at the online library, or the WT CDROM, the ONLY time the title MILLIONS NOW LIVING MAY NEVER DIE comes up is in that recent article, and only that one time.
Was it an intentional thing? Absolutely. The first time I saw the word MAY in the title, I was at a total loss. Only after researching it, did I understand where it came from. Because this is the ONLY time it has been referenced in any of the WT literature, you can be sure it was an intentional slant on the material, to force a gradual shift of the rank and file to start heading down the road of "they never said that", and "they never really MEANT the word NEVER".
It made me ill just to see a VERY obscure little tidbit of fact that was known to almost NOBODY (not even me!), twisted to fit the material in that WT article.
The worst part? No one ever said a word about it, just went right over everyone's head.
i just added this to my youtube channel, jwstruggle.
i know that we have some resident authorities on the history around jf rutherford and i am anxious to see what they make of it.
(leolaia i'm talking to you lol!).
I didnt take the time to search or anything..... what is the story with their son, Malcom? What became of him?
what are the passwords for on jw.org?
are there different levels of pass?
have the passwords ever been leaked?
Yes, CO's and DO's have their own level of access. Example: They can submit all their congregation visit summaries, recommendations for appointments, etc online, and have direct access to "special" areas that will never be seen by anyone else.
the meetings are getting more boring to me.
some of the elders during their parts just talk and talk and talk about uninteresting things.
boring, boring.
James, on the subject of meetings being increasingly boring:
Yep, totally agree. Just look at the KM schedule for the month, each week is virtually the same. 25 min from Jeremiah book, oh yay!, BH part from unqualified MS or older elder that just needs some face time on the platform, Bible reading (2-3 minutes of stumbling around with big names and stuff, seriously, can anyone not READ anymore??), 2 sisters rehearsing an unrealistic RV in the field, and brother wanna-be spouting his personal super-knowledge for the last 5 minutes. Service Meeting: 10 min part on Magazine presentations, 10 min part on What do we Learn (scriptures read and talked about), 10 min part from BE book.
Or a fascimile of the same, every week, RINSE, REPEAT, RINSE, REPEAT.
On the last week of the month, we get LOCAL NEEDS. whoo hoo! Usually 10 minute part about DO MORE DO MORE DO MORE, GIVE MORE, or STOP DRINKING, FORNICATING, GOSSIPPING, etc etc...
Blessings abound! I feel so refreshed!
