4 hours @ 550 or so mph = 2200 miles. There has been so much mis-information about this topic that it is fun but useless to speculate. A 777 fully loaded with fuel can fly for a long time. I took a non-stop flight from Chicago to Abu Dhabi of 15 hours on one. A flying gas tank. I don't know what the protocols for re-fueling a 777 on a much shorter flight.

One of the things I have noticed regarding the theories proposed by CNN and others is that they all seem to be missing one important facet. If there was a problem noted by the crew/customers, someone - many someones would have tried repeatedly to communicate those problems. This plane does not appear to have conflagrated in mid-air. All the other scenarios provide sufficient time for the crew, who had many different types of communicationa available to them, and those flying - there had to be 300 plus cell phones in eager hands - to call someone or to keep trying to call someone. That is the compelling bit of data in this scenario. If it didn't conflagrate immediately, and it doesn't appear to have done so, then any scenario provides time for notification/communication.
Even the air presssure issue, similar I suppose to the Payne Stewart incident - is it reasonable to think that of the 400 people onboard none of them would have time to protect themselves and call/notify??? That jet would have been in cell tower range soon and a kagillion calls would have been made. At least one of them, it would seem, would have been received. And the latest on CNN indicates the debris field is close to the flight path, so a Payne Stewart type incident appears to be ruled out, but not difinitively. A plane in those conditions, flying via computer, could go a thousand miles or more.

Kate,
Would you prefer that we sprinkle our comments with kindness? I can do so, albeit dripping in sarcasm. Some on this forum, too many IMHO, are so close to the evolutionary bottom of the food chain in their thinking and analytical ability that it makes it difficult to enjoy. You and others criticize our 'arrogance', but the real arrogance comes from those interjecting feeling/believing/perceiving nonsense into a serious discussion with no other motive than to draw narcisstistic egoistic attention to themselves. Igroring them is certainly an option. Refuting them is a waste of time and has already been done. IMHO, and I am essentially a very nice, calm, kind, generous, sensitive person, such ones need jolted into reality. If it stings it stings. They have had enough time to learn to think rationally and analytically. If they choose to hang onto superstitions and such, fine. There is a place on this and other forums for them. I don't go into their coffee talk chat arounds and contaminate their conversations, nor do I interject narcissistically in an attempt to hijack their theist/JW conversations.
If they can't show the same humility, it is what it is and they get what they deserve. If Cofty intimidated you perhaps that is not necessarily a bad thing. Look inside yourself and find out why. And I will stop referring to such as chimps when they quit acting like chimps. And I apologize once again to any chimpanzees I may have offended.
The last thing I would suggest is that not everyone saying nice things to you is your friend and not everyone saying stern things to you is your enemy.

Fink,
I believe the plane incident occurred at night. Had the plane crashed on land, it is very possible that one of the numerous satellites (U.S., Russia, China) would have spotted a red flash. I'm certain they were tasked with looking for such. Crashing a plane straight into the ocean would unlikely result in a red fire ball. It would leave debris, but remember that each part of it is traveling at the same rate of speed. It would likely submerge before dispersing into a debris field. TWA 800, if I recall, was a mid-air conflagartion that occurred immediately and ripped the plane apart. That scenario, based on what we have been told, isn't close to being applicable to this flight. Of course what we have been told may be subject to accuracy.

Skeeter,
I agree. The most plausible scenario, given what we have been told, appears to be the pilot/co-pilot quietly flying the plane into the sea or someplace else. The other pilot/co-pilot could have been quietly neutralized. Doubtful they were in on it together. Any other scenario provides too much time for some type of communication.

Likely in the ocean. Pilots would have had time to make a distress had it been terrorists, An insane pilot/co-pilot is plausible, but this scenario brings up a few problems. If drama/conflict had occurred it is difficult to believe someone on the plane wouldn't have gotten off a phone call before the plane was flown into the sea or somewhere else. Aside from that a catastrophic breakup iin the air s the other likely scenario, which would explain the lack of an alert. This is a state of the art plane with lots of capabilities.
THe latest news, I think from the Malaysian military, indicates the plane was changing course. Interesting case.

Zed and Kass,
Typical response from a non-intellectual, under-educated 'feeler believer.' You can't prove anything, you can't win any debates with the opposition or disprove any of them so you attack the oppositiion. This post could have been left alone by you and your kind. The tail end responses were desperation moves from those narcissistically trying to get the last word, thinking that, now that the intellectual discussions are over you can somehow make your stirring points. Geessh. But thank you nonetheless. Lurkers have benefited. Now you all go back and play with the other chimpanzees. I'm sorry if I've offended the chimps. Cofty is nicer than I.

New Article on JW.org about gay people
by ateograciasadios inok, sometimes i go to jw.org just to laugh a bit about the 'food at the proper time', and i would like to know what people think of this hillarious article 'am i attracted to the same sex.
does that mean i am gay?'.
this has to be one of the most remarkable pieces of logic (last paragraph of the article).. the bibles stand is not unreasonable.
