While watching this very strange video, I was thinking the same thing. Me thinks he (they) doth protest too much. Once gay marriage is legalized everywhere in the US and the Western world - and it probably won't take long until that occurs - the Borg will be isolated even further. When the current young generation, over 80 percent of whom favor gay marriage, reaches the point where they begin to control and run things, the Borg will face even more pressures, as their front line leaders (elders, MS, COs, etc.) likely won't reallly give a rip about sexual preference.
Their rants and ravings, along with the other fundies, will seem more and more bizarre, arcane and outdated. Good for them. Let it come.

Very glad to see you using an easel and artist’s brush rather than a roller or spray gun. First, I know nothing of Richard Dawkins. Nothing. My atheism belongs to me, and the only people who influenced my atheism are Christians or Dubs.
Second, as I pointed out before, in my entire life in the Borg, including the nearly decade in the servant body (MS and elder), I was never on a JC, Re-instatement committee, counseling session or even aware of child sexual abuse in our congregation or any other. I spoke to a friend of mine the other night about this topic, asking him if he was ever aware of such. Like me he was in the Borg for decades and served in the servant body (and like me has been out for a long while). We are both intelligent, sentient, highly aware individuals. He also had no knowledge of any incidents. We are sure they occurred, but in our collective decades, much of which was spent in different cities/areas/congregations, neither of us heard of or experienced any JCs or cover-ups on this subject. Very nice to see your more moderate tone on this as well. Thank you.
And VG, we both were almost always aware of the reasons behind JC decisions, removal of privileges, DFing, marking, etc., based in part on being in the servant body, on JCs, etc., but primarily on the fact that when sh$$ happens people talk. Most things become fairly widely known apart from the elders. I know you want to believe otherwise, but the elders I dealt with were mature and kept confidential stuff confidential. I do not know if that was typical; likely not.
Dawkins is likely a highly rational person on the MBPTI scale. Such individuals typically speak in the manner in which he is relating his experiences and views. He probably isn't capable of forming the types of emotional responses that you feel so deeply and quickly. Neither of you are right in your responses; neither of you are wrong. Just different. I look at the context of his words, who he is and what he is trying to say and bring no value judgment to it. You and a few others read what he wrote and see red. That is ok. We are entitled to view his words/views based on our own personality types, our experiences, etc.
Having said that, there are varying differences in the types of offenses which fall into what constitutes sexual abuse of a child. Some are merely legal restrictions, which make absolutely no sense (I illustrated one). FTS illustrated what other cultures currently view as normal and acceptable; I alluded to them. Simon also gave simple but compelling examples.
Dawkins and others have alluded to past practices where similar behaviors were not considered wrong, immoral or abusive.
That does not mean that many of these practices shouldn’t be illegal and strictly enforced now, but it also doesn’t mean that rational thought, clear thinking and fair-mindedness shouldn’t be brought to this issue. And it certainly does not mean that those who do not share the extreme emotional reaction of some are secret closet pedophiles, which I have been accused of being on this site, because I agreed with the team of professionals (who spent months analyzing and evaluating Allen's behavior) and the judge and court system which did not castrate Woody Allen. I don’t know if he was guilty, but many experts believed that he wasn’t. Some may have thought he was but couldn’t find enough real facts and evidence to prove otherwise. I was routinely blasted by highly emotional, usually irrational people on this site because I didn't simply react and 'feel' the way they did.

wow, i never saw that being possible.. .
he just got himself a computer and was able to get internet in a remote location where he is serving as an elder with my mom (where the need is great) i was happy to see how he was able to send me a few notes saying hi and i was able to share some pictures of my wife and family, etc.. .

The Dark Lords gotta say something about the end being SOOOOOO very near, given the 100 year anniversary of the 'end.' It seems that their strategy is to show it proudly and loudly rather than act as though they are ashamed or embarrassed by their failed predictions. Marketing strategy. Nothing more. They also gotta know the world is in better shape than it has been in a long time, and getting better in most every manner on a consistent basis. But really, what else can they say and what else can they do?
Your dad surprises me. I was in the Borg for decades, but by the time I left I wasn't drinking the Kool Aid - I wasn't even sipping it. It is difficult for me to bellieve he is such a true believer; he really has shut down his mental faculties and gone into a deep delusional myopic hole. Good luck young man.

Is a 19 year old dating and having relations with a 17 year old or a 16 year old pedophilia? Depending on the state and other activities (taking pictures, sending texts, etc.) it most certainly can be. It doesn't matter if they are in love and getting married with both families' blessings. Should such an individual be prosecuted, deemed an offender and placed on the pedo list for the rest of their lives?
And a few generations ago this was how everyone got married - young to very young girls/women with older men. This practice still occurs in many areas of the planet; it is accepted. We may not like it and wish that they could 'evolve' as we have, but many practices that we condemn and place pejorative adjectives on are still considered normal and acceptable in many areas. That, IMHO, is what Dawkins is referring to. Having these types of discussions can be valuable, but not if those like Chrisuk and VG are hysterical reactionaries painting with broad brushes and making very awful accusations.
And Chrisuk, please don't call me an idiot like VG does. I am 100% spot on and accurate. I hate pedophiles, probably more than you, but I love justice and fair-mindedness more.

Excellent summary, and that is exactly how I read his responses. I think we can accurately say that most/all on this board abhor child abuse of any type, especially sexual abuse. Having said that, I've seen too many rushing to judgment on this topic whenever it comes up. I understand this topic elicits strong emotions; I'm a father and from the time both my children were born I built a force shield around them, protecting them from the Borg, elders and anyone else who tried to harm them. My leaving the Borg was due in very large part to my desire to allow my children to live their lives unfettered from such control. Anyone who would have harmed them would have met with the full intensity of my anger. I would die for my children; I would kill for them.
Having said that, it should not be so very difficult to bring rational, balanced and fair-minded thought to this topic. I do not see that from a lot of posters. Rushing to judment accomplishes nothing. Mis-quoting or mis-stating someone's comments accomplishes nothing. Convicting others in kangaroo courts accomplishes nothing. It does not make those doing such more just, more fair, more concerned or more protective of children. It simply makes those responding in such a knee jerk, over-reactionary and broad brushed manner appear a bit un-hinged and a lot irrational. I've seen the exact same responses from some on this topic in general and on the "Pedo elder" and Woody Allen OPs.
And those of us who would prefer to bring fair mindedness to this topic (as I try to do with every topic) should not have to be accused by the reactionaries of being pro-abuse or closet pedophiles. That is disgusting. VG, you are capable of excellent posts - rational, well thought and balanced. But your emotional over-reaction and broad brushed approach to so many posts causes you to lose your credibility, as I've pointed out before. It is likely this tendency has impacted your professional career and personal lilfe as well.
That's why, other than this comment, I typically avoid these OPs. Good luck to you all arguing these points. And VG, please don't respond by calling me an idiot. Again. I am 100% spot on accurate. Not everyone chastising you is your enemy and not everyone agreeing with you or telling you sweet things with sweet words is your friend.

Ouch! You win!!!! Not my cup of tea either but some probably like that look. For women, body building and boobs don't mix. In order to show striation, fat has to go. Boobs (and butts) are largely fat. A lot of female body builders buy boobs (don't ask me how I know, Oh, ok, ask).

second malaysian plane down

light debris was falling out of the smoke trail before the impact and other images show two distinct smoke plumes, one on approach the other after the impact.
this was not a vertical dive.. one of the theories about the first malaysian plane dissappearance is an incident with dangerous cargo catching fire.. 2 planes of the same airlime?

Based on the evening news reports, there is a phone conversation from a Russian Ukranian separatist who is heard stating they shot a plane down. The missile battery is supposedly from Russia, but all of this isn't definite. It is unclear why the Malyasian pilots fly this route. According to evening news, the US has issued directives to the commercial flights under its jurisdiction to avoid this sector, for obvious reasons. The Malaysians continue to perplex. Flying through this area, given the war zone and that other planes have already been brought down, is beyond clueless.
Anyway, too early to make judgments. 33,000 feet is called normal.
