So Today Was My Wife's First Ever Birthday Party
by dubstepped inshe turned one today, and 36 earlier this week.
we planned a big party, big for two people that have never thrown a party before.
we rented a church fellowship hall because 1. it was nice and big and affordable and 2. it was kind of awesome to throw a party in a place we would have never ventured in our previous life.

Possible Military Coup in Turkey!
by cofty inif this does turn out to be the case it could have very serious implications.... turkey hovers between western freedom and democracy and an islamic hell.
europe has been bending over backwards to keep turkey on-side and promising it fast-tracked entry to the eu in return for it's cooperation in controlling mass migration from the east.. the situation is unclear at the moment but there are tanks on the streets....

The West's underwheliming response is enough to anger Erdogan.Without a doubt he is in the process of torturing, I mean interrogating, the military leaders responsible.
He will want to ask Obama if the US had Intel on the attempted coup. I believe he has already closed the airbase the US was using.
The US should be smart enough to have rock solid deniability. If not, the coup leaders aren't the only ones acting like Keystone Cops.
Either way, Erdogan will retreat further into Islamville, purge the military further and make his dual path toward the EU/ NATO and Sharia fundamentalism ever harder to travel.
Maybe that was the plan, make him choose. What a mess.

Was the Coup staged?
by Coded Logic infor the sake of argument, i think a case can be made:.
) edrogan has been wanting to expand his constitutional powers - this gives him the perfect opportunity to do so..
) it gives edrogan an excuse to restructure a highly secular military.

Everything about this is weird. See the news article where Erdogan is blaming a former Turkish cleric and associate living in PA.
The full military clearly wasn't behnd it, as there were neither strategies nor tactics.Too many people died to think Erdogan was behind it, and a lot of military are now under arrest. Suggesting Erdogan could maintain plausible deniability given these conditions strains reason.
It seems that religion is the reason for this treason.

Erdogan has been waging a war with Turkey"s military leadership. No doubt he has been placing loyalists - and Islamists - in key mitary positions the past few years in addition to removing secularist military leaders.
The police forces are likely more Islamist than secular. The poor and the rural as well.
This could get ugly. If the coup leaders don't have a great plan and overwheling numbers in the military it will get very ugly.
Erdogan"s true colors are sharia fundamentalism. That's his default setting.

Read Obama's official response. Support democratically elected gov, avoid violence, blah blah.
No sense of outrage such as when Vlad took Crimea or parts of Ukraine.
What the W isn't saying is deafening. Unintended consequences are many, but if the anti Islamist beliefs permeate the military it doesn't bode well for the PM. THAT is the $64 question.
He is popular however which greatly complicates things.
What a mess.

It's almost a certainty that the West has known these events would occur. The number and movement of US carrier groups are higher now than in many years.
Vlad, Syria and the rest of the ME are contributors, but the resources the US has placed nearby are enormous.
The words being used by W embassies suggest caution. If this was not expected to go down well for the W, the official notice would likely be to get the hell out of Dodge.

What SlidinFast said.
Turkey"s military has a recent history of aggressively opposing the Islamization of its society.
If news items are accurate and based on their official and carefully chosen words, they are trying to stop the PM from converting Turkey to a caliphate sharia state.
What a mess.
