by LarryCope inin december, i lunched with someone who was at one time quite close and is still a jw.
the topic of the arc ( australian royal commission ) and pedophilia came up.
the two things that was immediately voiced by this person was the two witness rule and that it was homosexuals molesting witness boys parroting the plastic faced stephen lett.this person is not online and has not seen the arc videos or know anything about the silent lambs movement.

Infinity versus nothing
by Fisherman insome people like to believe in something others believe in nothing; so in what location did the substance that expanded into the time/space universe exist before the big bang?
where did the energy that caused the big band come from?
how did the substance that became the big bang change from being inert and sterile and come to life to having the properties and drive that it does?

Thanks Giordano. Stray cats are a plague and a menace. A lot of areas are trying to eradicate them for the reasons you mention. If it was god, I don't know what she was thinking when she conceptualized the damage felines on the loose could cause.
But enough about my ex GF.

The anointed1,
Your worshipful ness, I know a lot of atheists. None of them have an agenda. Other than a handful of activists, you would be hard pressed to find atheists with agendas.
Otoh, the vast majority of religious people have an agenda. Both x tianity and Islam are predicated on spreading their infections.
Take yourself, for example. your imminence (and Your Eminence), 100% of the reason you're on this site is to influence your agenda.
Download and process. your holiness, being an atheist is the exact opposite of agenda. It is a calm (oooooooommmmm) rational evaluation of evidence.

God’s silence teaches more than what the “revealed scriptures” do!
by anointed1 inobjective reading of scriptures can see many human thoughts in them.
objective analysis of religions would show that they exist primarily for their own benefit.
is science too travelling in the same direction?

2017 Circuit Assembly: Lesbians at school demonstration
by darkspilver insteve2: is there some way this can be presented so that it is crystal clear what was actually in the demonstrations and what was added?
i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.

Why I believe the quality of my posts has improved.
by The Rebel in" thinking fast and slow" is a self help book by d kahneman.. according to my simplified understanding of the above self-help book we have 2 brains, which the author calls system 1 brain and system 2 brain.. system 1 brain is the brain that make the decisions, that we do as routine.. system 2 brain is the brain that uses conscious reasoning.
thinking that requires conscious effort.. now the interesting thing is system1 brain is often making decisions system 2 brain isn't even aware are being made.
this is because system 2 brain requires conscious reasoning, and thinking that requires effort.

Great OP The Rebel. Our brains are no different than any other muscle. It won't improve, get stronger, more capable and resilient if we don't exercise it. I'm a rational by nature and Myers Briggs, but I work every day to be more analytical, rational and empirical and less reactionary, emotional and biased or set in my ways as people say.
It's no different for me than working out and lifting heavy weights. You won't see the results if you don't work hard.
You are an asset to the site. I aspire to be more congenial like you. Good luck with that.

Most all of what Simon has said I have said many times on this site. Unchecked immigration can't be absorbed by any country on an ongoing basis. The US has been more than patient, generous and benevolent. The latest US stats show that:
Nearly 70% of undocumented immigrants have been in this country longer than 10 years.
There are approximately 11 million undocumented in this country. A bit over 8 million undocumented are in the US workforce.
The vast majority of undocumented immigrants come from Mexico, Central and S America (which we knew). They come to the US for a better life.
The ongoing problems in C and S America are the primary reasons they come here: Crime, Gangs, Drug Lords and Drug Wars, Corruption and Incompetency are the rule rather than the exception in C and S America.
The immigration issue has been used by politicos from both sides, but primarily the Republicans, for decades to marshall the forces and to manipulate the rank and file. However, both parties are hypocrites, as they wink and look the other way, in some part due to compassion but in large part to assuage the farmers, construction companies, hotels and service industries and the factories that rely on lower wage undocumented to maintain a profit and a competitive advantage.
And yet the US unemployment rate is about 4.6%. Simon is right, however, in that the lower wages paid to the undocumented drive all wages of the middle class and lower middle class lower, which is one of the primary drivers of the shrinking, struggling middle class.
But if any redneck or Trump supporter wants to get angry at someone, it is not the immigrants, who work harder and behave better on average that all Americans. They should address their anger at the politicians and businessmen who say one thing about immigration and do another.
To that end, god bless Donald Trump. At least he is putting his $ where his bigly mouth it. I support 100% his actions to limit immigration, control immigration, get rid of the problem children, and change the paradigm.
But inciting hatred against a group of people, the majority of whom are humble, hard working, well behaved, long term residents is abhorrent. It is vile and evil.
And when the first innocent, hard working immigrant is beaten or murdered by a drunk redneck Trump supporter after he begins posting crime stats, remember this post.
It isn't a matter of if.

I agree with every thing you said, and those are the issues he should stress.
As far as crime statistics the fair thing to say is that those walking across our borders illegally behave themselves better than Americans.
Trump is in sighting fear and hatred to get what he wants. That should disturb us.
