The Borg is deserving of being appropriately mocked and ridiculed. If we want to turn this site into a 'proper' debating forum then all 'proper' debating rules will be followed, not just a few cherry picked by those who lack a sense of humor. And debates are essentially about 2 things: Facts and the Correct application of Facts. Opinions, thoughts, feelings, beliefs and shallow, tepid one dimensional, prejudiced knowledge or 'factoids' aren't acceptable. Since that isn't practical, and since it would render the theists impotent, let's just try to all get along. I'm a wise ass; that isn't going to change. The best we call all hope for us to contain me.

Is it wrong to mock and ridicule the Watchtower Society?
by yadda yadda 2 inrobert j ingersoll on the great voltaire:.
"it has been claimed by the christian critics that voltaire was irreverent; that he examined sacred things without solemnity; that he refused to remove his shoes in the presence of the burning bush; that he smiled at the geology of moses, the astronomical ideas of joshua, and that the biography of jonah filled him with laughter.
they say that these stories, these sacred impossibilities, these inspired falsehoods, should be read and studied with a believing mind in humbleness of spirit; that they should be examined prayerfully, asking god at the same time to give us strength to triumph over the conclusions of our reason.

Thanks Billy. If they couldn't help it we shouldn't mock or ridicule. They can. If we weren't truthful we shouldn't mock or ridicule. We are. If we aren't using pejorative, abusive or vulgar language, and that is in the eye of the beholder at times, then rock on.

I think the newbies can take it; they wouldn't be grousing about here unless they were sick of the Borg or getting sick of it. As long as what is said is true, and curse words aren't used, why filter or censor? Strong words are necessary at times. They shouldn't be discouraged nor censored. If someone can show me that the Borg isn't full of hate, isn't controlling, doesn't destroy families, doesn't promise something which will never ever occur and doesn't set up its followers to be both financially, socially and psychologically behind the eight ball for the rest of their lives then me and those like me will always use sweet sweet words. Good luck with that.
I felt most of what I feel now when I was an elder and still believed it was the truth. Twenty years ago. I didn't come on this site - or any like it - until 2 decades post Borg had passed. I'm not freshly out and 'angry.' I've accomplished more than I can possibly relate, and my life is extremely happy and positive in all manners. So let's put things in their proper perspectve, shall we. There are a lot of posters like me who have been out a long, long time who feel the same. The Borg is full of a lot of very good people; we all know that. You call it vitriol; I call it truth. Potato potahto.

The Borg is a dangerous hate-filled cult which robs individuals of their personal consciences and choices. They destroy families. They ensure that their followers remain challenged in life financially and emotionally, waiting anxiously on a pay-off that will never, ever come. They deserve to be thrown onto the scrap heap of the 21st Century. They deserve much more ridicule than they receive on this site. The damage they have done to individuals and families while contributing absolutely nothing to society is shameful. We are kind if all we do is call them the Borg. They deserve much worse. If that hurts someone's feelings then they can get over it. Or not. It is truth. Deal with it.

VG,
I understand your point. As I've pointed out before, I know a helluva lot about a helluva lot, but my subject matter expertise is not in the sciences. So I don't enter science discussions, out of humility and debate decorum, which indicates that if you don't know a subject stay out of it and if you do enter a debate, honor the topic - and your fellow debaters- and have a very good knowledge of it. Feelings and beliefs work in theist discussions (really, do they have anything else), but they will and should be nuked in debates about science and other topics. What someone thinks also deserves to be obliterated, as does enough knowledge to just be annoying. So many rush to find the first article which appears to support their views and never dig deeper or even try to undertand the topic from a 360 degree approach. They get exactly what they deserve.
Having said that, it is clear that there are a number of posters who do understand a variety of scientific topics. I learn from them, which is something the theists and others lacking understanding about any topic should do. But they seemingly can't help themselves. Ego and narcissism take over and they lack the self control to avoid the keyboard.

Kate,
Lots of us thought of the WT as the Borg when we were in, so I don't think we are hurting anyone's feelings calling it the Borg now. It is a fitting name, actually kinda cute. We could call the borganization what they really are, which is: a hate filled, vile, nasty, controlling, evil little cult. Which would you prefer?

I Need Help Getting My Head Straight.......
by TTATTelder inone of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.
i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).
when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.

rebel8,
That's commonly called the Myers/Briggs Personality Type Indicator. This mother/daughter team followed up on Jung's work. David Kiersey has also added to it. One of his books, Please Understand Me (I think) is often used by marriage/parent counselors. I had a copy of it for years (loaned it). Companies have used the MBPTI test extensively for decades as a tool for hiring/promotions/team building, and trying to fit the right person in the right job. Entire countries have used Jung's premise to help in channeling youths into the vocations to which they are more likely to succeed given their personality type. MBPTI has its detractors, and it isn't 100 percent accurate, but, as you have experienced, it is darned close and has a lot of value.
An article last year suggested that certain MBPTI types have higher incomes than others.

I thought similarly when I exited the Borg, but I discovered quite soon that there are a lot of great people in the world - unlike what we were led to believe by the Dark Lords in the Tower. And their friendship isn't conditional. I have friends who are: Jewish, Black, Gay, Bi, Hindu, Muslim, Atheist, Christian (very), ex-Dubs. I love them all and I think the feelilngs are returned. The one thing they all have in common: they are all excellent, ethical people. I don't think about labels. I don't think any of them smoke, use drugs or cause any other harm. You will find out when you complete your exit. You are too close right now to clearly see it. Don't worry.

A floozy? Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time. (ode to Star Wars). If you were a dude everyone would think you cool. No, your'e not a floozy (what the hell is a floozy anyway?). But I have a major crush on Lindsay Lohan, so I may not be the right person to ask! Change your language, especially the adjectives!!!!
