  i've been given permission to post news of our friend.. kate hasn't been very well.

  not well at all.

  i think much of it has been a delayed reaction to her df'ing, the general fallout when leaving the wtbs and family issues.. i just wanted to give you guys the heads up and give you a chance to show how much we care about her.. thanks for listening..

  Bible's mention of physical beauty- why?

  for years, as i've read through the bible, i've wondered why bible writers were concerned about physical beauty (see references below)?

  i realize it's human nature to be interested in beauty, but why did they see fit to record in the so-called "word of god" the fact that some of the people they wrote about were beautiful?

  looks are not supposed to matter according to jw doctrine (and probably the doctrine of many christian-professing sects).

  My opinion would be similar to others already stated: The NT reflected the times and the culture, which if we are to believe the time period of the writers, was compressed to a generation or so. But it's just an opinion.

  The first time I read that beauty = symmetry I thought, that's crazy. But it is true. Symmetry also reveals strength, fertility, etc., whether it is a tree or a person. The more symmetrical, according to the experts, the better the DNA is for passing along to offspring and hence the more attractive that person is to one looking for a mate (whether they know it or not).

  Those who study such things know it much better than I. But think about a beautiful tree. Almost always it is because of its symmetry, that which gives it strength from winds, rains, etc. also makes it beautiful to look at. If lightning or some other issue causes the tree to lose most/all of its branches on one side, it loses a lot of its beauty to our eyes. Nature requires symmetry for survival in many ways.

  Sociologists and the like theorize that humans somewhat broke the cycle when our brains developed more fully. Rather than the biggest, baddest (and likely most symmetrical) male getting all the stuff and the girls, other guys used their brains to find ways to bring girls food and stuff so that they could mate with them.

  It's the same today. We call it dating.

  What is considered beautiful varies, but there are certain traits which have been identified as beautiful by nearly all humans. It has to do with facial symmetry and measurements along the face. It's math, essentially (wouldn't you know the damn engineers would develop a formula for beauty!!!). Google it. Having said that, what cultures view as beautiful for traits which occur below the face (or in the ears, etc.): now that's a different matter.

  It would have been far more odd if no references to physical beauty were found in the bible. As much as we may want it to have been god's word, it isn't and never has been. It's one people's spin; that's all. IMHO, the sooner everyone can accept this the better they will be emotionally, psychologically, socially and evolutionarily.

  The Bog's members do what some on this site do; look for factoids which appear to support pre-judged views. And given the lack of education amongst the Borg, it isn't likely that any of them speaking definitively about such complicated topics as global economic theory and practice and military superiority know a wit about what they are saying. During our time in the Borg, I'm sure we all did the same thing - keenly looking at world events unfolding and linking them to the GT (Great Tribulation) and the Big 'A'. How did that work out for us?

  The only difference is we didn't have the world wide web to show off our ignorance. I'm thankful for that!!

  heard from a reliable source that this was part of friday's program.

  they even interviewed a "former gay man" who "kicked the gay habit".. evidently kicking the "gay habit" is difficult, not unlike quitting smoking or avoiding sugary snacks.

  the persons who related this to me found the whole thing to be laughable at best, but honestly seemed quite disturbed by it (which is good!

  "Right from childhood"? Splane has to know better. By using those words he damn well knows there are genetic factors. Backing away from 'choice' and edging cautiously toward the womb and conception, huh? Since they all are likely afraid of girl parts, that's probably as close as they will ever get to acknowledging the conception/genetic factors. Does he think that makes him sound Smarter? Kinder? Gentler? More Understanding and Compassionate?

  He and the rest of the Dark Lords are evil little men with hands stained from the blood of innocents. I hope that someone from the Dark Tower is reading this.

  That makes sense. Thanks. Cults don't want you to be Intuitive or Thinking. So NTs will be more likely to exit cults. The "F" (feeling) is exactly what would be predicted, as all religions thrive because of it.

  American Rantings About World Cup Soccer (Football)

  i try ... i really try to watch football (soccer) ... it's world cup time ... i really do try.. i just don't get it ... i really don't.. yes, it's a world-wide sport.

  in most countries it is the number 1 or number 2 sport ... no doubt about it.

  it's maybe number 5 in the usa for professional sports.. from an american's perspective (i think i speak for many), we just wonder if these guys actually have testicles.

  It is a beautiful game, I will acknowledge. The skillsets and athleticism are amazing. But 1-0? The US had 4 goals in 3 games and gave up 4 goals in 3 games (I think that's right). And that's a better average than most of the teams. After 2 games I think about half the teams hadn't scored any goals. And these are the best players in the world. After 85 minutes (of a 90 minute match I think) every match was 0-0 or 1-0 (I'm barely exaggerating). I'm sorry, call me a spoiled American who likes immediate gratification, but I'm not going to follow a sport where offense/scoring is so rare. Otherwise it is an amazing game.

  Good point. Maybe the "N" is the key! We could probably do a major rearch paper on the subject. Who knows, we might even identify personality types that did not ever need to be associated with the Borg and maybe other high control cults. We could publish the data and lobby the government to require MBPTI tests for everyone wanting to join a religion. Heck, we could write a sci-fi screen play along these lines. Divergent, the recent movie, is based on a similar premise. Divergent personalities coldn't be controlled by the post apolcalyptic government so they tried to exterminate them. I think we are onto something!!!
