Hi Here's another thought: Not only will the world be seriously overcrowded but remember that according to witness teaching, all the faithful survivors of Armageddon will be assigned to teach the resurrected ones the Troof. That means that every witness will have tens of thousands of eager Bible Students (sarcasm). Doesn't leave much time for restoring the paradise does it? CyrusThePersian

Will the new system be uncrowded?
by M.J. ini was talking to an elder yesterday about how enjoyable it is to get away from civilization in remote wilderness areas, unlike the circus you see at places like yosemite natl.
park in california.
with dreamy eyes he mentioned how great it will be in the "new system", when "we can enjoy uncrowded conditions.".

Hi!
Have a SUPER Happy Birthday!!!
Since it's your first birthday get a real decadent ultra-chocolate cake and put one candle on it for your first birthday.
Or better yet, make reservations at one of those restaurants where the wait staff sings "Happy Birthday" to people who ask for it, then arrange (somehow) to have your family and all their JW friends be there at the same time you are! That would be a great way to "out" yourself once and for all!
I've thought about doing that one myself...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

So who are we? And why are we here?
by MsMcDucket inare we someone's science project?
did two rocks collide and boom, ta-da, here's earth with people?
does our life have purpose?

Hi!I'm with Nicolaou on this one. This life is all there is! Our purpose (aside from being gene replicating machines) is to enjoy our seventy or eighty years and maybe leave this place just a little bit better than we found it.
Just think, all of the unfertilized egg cells produced by the human female throughout her life represent potential lives that will never be lived. Billions of beings who will never get the chance that we have been given. We who are alive are the lucky winners of life's lottery!
I, for one, will continue to live my life as I see fit. Are there gods out there? If so, they seem to not give a damn about what we do. Despite the believer's endless devotion to their dieties, they still grow old and die just like the atheists. So I'll just leave them all alone and enjoy the life I have!

What one sentence could you say to a JW that would stick with them?
by AlmostAtheist inyou've probably heard sentences that stuck with you.
quotes, one-liners.
you hear them and they make so much sense or touch you so personally at the time that they become part of you.

Hi! Not a sentence really, but a question."Can you prove, from the Bible, that Jesus chose the Bible Students to be his Faithful and Discreet Slave in 1919?" There's so much silliness in that question it will keep them "researching" for days! They'll have to figure out the wacko 1914 "chronology", the identity of the faithful and discreet slave (incuding who the Bible Students thought the FDS was back in 1919) and how they deduce that Jesus made some sort of "inspection tour" of the world's religions before choosing the total nutjob Bible Students to be his spokesmen on Earth. Did you read ..........THAT........book...............
by vitty in.
.............. coc, of course.
when you were still in the org, or when you had already left.. i read it when i was still in and it had a profound effect on me.. lets take a poll .

Yes. I read it. It was back in the mid nineties I think, because I was having doubts about the 1914 generation change already (that was in Nov. 1995). I found it at the Zondervan book store when I went in there to buy a copy of the New International Version Bible for my library. I was an elder at the time. What I read shocked and amazed me. The Mexico-Malawi situation, 1975, the shabby treatment that Ray Franz received, being practically railroaded out of the organization. It suprised me, but it still rang true . Everything he wrote sounded familiar, like it could have happened in my congregation. I wanted to confront my fellow elders-tell them what I had learned, maybe save them if I could...but I didn't. I chickened out. I didn't want to get disfellowshipped. So I just...faded...away. This book is profound. Read it, I urge you. You will not regret it!

Need advice on buying a HDTV (DLP or LCD)
by Leander ini'm gearing up to buy my first projection tv (this will be my 2nd hdtv) and i'm having a hard time in choosing between dlp and lcd.
can anyone give me a little insight on their experiences with either technology?.
i'm looking for a set that will do at least 720p, with a screen size of 40-46 inches (preferably widescreen but not a neccessity) and at a price of 2k or less including warranty and taxes.

Hi! Glad I could be of help. One more piece of advice on buying a DLP. Take Mrs. Leander and any Leander Jr's with you when you go to the store. Apparantly the ability to see the rainbow effect varies from person to person due to each individual's persistence of vision. You'd hate to buy an expensive TV only to find that Junior can't stand to watch it. The rainbow effect can be very annoying. The Samsung 46" is an excellent choice BTW, prices may come down more as Christmas approaches so you may catch it on sale. Cyrus the Persian

Hi!
Are you looking for a front projector or a rear projector?
DLP's, on the other hand, use a spinning color wheel as part of the display system. Some people (like me) can see the "rainbow effect" this color wheel produces, especially in bright, fast moving scenes. Newer DLP's use a faster spinning wheel, (10,000 RPM plus)to minimize the rainbow effect but these sets are out of your price range.
One thing both displays have in common is the use of a replaceable backlight bulb. These last about 3 to 5 years on average and are easy to replace at a cost of about $200.
As for specific models, Sony makes a 42" LCD which should be within your price range. LG makes a 44" DLP which might be in your price range if you catch it on sale.
Bottom line: Shop and compare! Look at picture quality. Can you see the artifacts I described? Do your homework and I'm sure you'll make a great purchace!

35 Yrs ago today - We rocked!
by Amazing1914 indoes this sound like the jw organization you know today?
yes, on july 17th, 1970, my wife and i were baptized as jws at the "men of good will" district assembly (convention today), at the oakland, california coliseum - where the raiders play.
nearly 70,000 attended, and over 750 were baptized ... and it all made the news in the san francisco chronicle & examiner and other newspapers and radio stations.

To sKally and Euphemism,You are both absolutely right, of course. Just because there were good times back in the old days doesn't make it any less a destructive cult. Even back then the Watchtower was destroying families and laying burdensome guilt trips on its members. Too, us parents made some awful decisions regarding our children. I have a daughter who is a gung-ho witness-and is unhappy as hell and a son (living with his mother) who is headed in the same direction. Like you Euphemism, I prefer my cults to be on the decline, despite the "good times."

Yep,35 years ago we did indeed rock! i remember working in food service in the early seventies. Such fun!
Stirring enormous pots of beans, rinsing off THOUSANDS of metal institutional trays, it was hard work but for a fourteen year old kid,but it seemed worth it. I remember in 1971, the year I was baptized, the convention was held at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis Tennessee. There were 12,000 people there, in a venue that was only designed to hold 9000. The overflow had to sit out in the concourses or stand up all day and listen at the Shelby County Building next door (which served as the cafeteria). There were hundreds who were baptized. I had to wait for an hour to get dunked, there were so many!
Now it's all gone. Food service is no more. Now you bring your own stale sndwich. No more live music, just canned recordings. The talks are drab, the dramas are lifeless. There are so few baptisms that they may as well have them in the men's room. Yes the glory days are over and all I have to say is ...Good %$#*@ Riddance!
