Why don't you just go to the meeting and find out, Scoob?

apologies if this has been asked before, but.... when i was growing up into the fabulously handsome critter i am nowadays, i always remember talk of the great tribulation that would not only befall mankind but overtake this system of things in the near future.
in fact one of my earliest memories was standing in a queue that seemed to go on for miles (i was only 7) outside with my mum and aunt/cousins at a cinema to see starwars, so i reckon it must have been 1977 and listening to them talk of it.
anyway i digress, what and when exactly is the "great tribulation" according to jw beliefs.
Why don't you just go to the meeting and find out, Scoob?

christians always tell us how loving, caring and just god is, how he never ?forgets?
they also claim that god is omnipotent and everything that happens is his will and that it has a ?purpose?.
lets pay attention to what the watchtower say next as we will come back to it later:
Green,
And what about natural disasters? Disease? Parasites? All the other "evil" things which humans have no control over? Why would God set up a world like that?
Bradley...just waiting for "Adam and Eve caused it" to come out. If so, I will refrain from answering as you obviously would then be completely steeped in myth and legend.

Green,
If you knew that your neighbor was continually raping a child and you did nothing about it you would also be held responsible for the crime. Just because a theoretical "God" might not directly cause suffering, the fact that he stands back and does nothing in his power to prevent suffering is itself despicable.
One of the reasons why I do not buy into the God hypothesis.

i know you all have adviced me just to keep low-profile and not bang out and tell my super-elder dad that i dont believe in his crap.
but i just cant stand it!
all around me everywhere i go theres this vomiting sense of thick jw-air.
filip,
Well, I'm really sorry about this. Take your time, though. Try and keep your wits about you. If you can talk to a trusted teacher or counselor at school that might help. DON'T jump off the deep-end and start smoking, doing drugs or anything like that. Play it smart and be glad you are coming to some insights very young for a person raised a JW.

this is not the first time that this has been reported.
i have thought it was possible that a non-christian nation might be the first.
to disclose ufo reality.
Well, it's on the internet so it must be true.
one of the issues i have with the wt teachings is that it is taught that a true believer must not engage in warfare.. the problem is: evil does exist and someone must be willing to stop evil.
if not good people then who will?.
many years ago, i asked a sister this question: "if no one had stopped hitler (the best example of evil at the time) what would have happened?
There's much talk in Biblical scholarship about the "interim ethics" that Jesus followers took upon themselves in waiting for the Return. What seems "abnormal" might be considered "normal" in the interim ethic.
The early Christians -- and groups that try to emulate them, like the JWs -- were not concerned about the "long term" or the possible amelioration of humanity by humans themselves. They were concerned with the "reduced time" before the Parousia and little else. The only reason this line of thought appears foolish or naive is that the Parousia never came and will never come.

JW's don't "bash those that died" Mary. That's insane.
Again, although I'm an atheist, I feel the JWs are more close to the earliest strands of Apocalyptic Christianity than are the majority of "Christians." The early Church looked for salvation from the sky -- they weren't concerned with being "practical" about human evil because they had a metaphysical answer.

I've often wondered...
If Adam and Eve (and, evidently, "Satan"!) all had "perfect minds" how is it that they could have even sinned in the first place. At what point does "sin" enter the picture? In action? Well, all action is accompanied and preceded by thought. So, was the sin in the thought? If so, how could someone with a "perfect" mind ever even develop within them a train of thought that would lead to a "sinful thought"?
One could say, "well, they had free will." Besides being a dubious concept -- free from what, exactly? -- it still seems to beg the question. How could someone "perfectly free" and with a "perfect (sinless) mind" ever stumble onto "sin"?

"a study of 280 successful scientists found that their creativity tended to diminish once they got married.
this also held true for musicians, painters and authors.
Forgive, once again, my pedanticism, but this thread title is very deceptive. Studies migh show some or most married people are less creative, but surely this is not true of "all."

I cannot see how it is possible for one to be a Christian in expectation of the Lord's Return and involved in warfare at the same time. The reason why JW's and the early Christians were neutral was because there was no expectation that the world would last long enough for evil to prevail. Their hope was for the skies to open and for God to solve their problems. They were not concerned with a "practical" answer to the problem of human evil (such as Ceasar or Hitler) because they had a metaphysical answer.
