Who cares if someone wants to pray for you?

annoying the JWs
by Ellie in.
yesterday i saw a couple of witnesses from my local kingdom hall offering out tracts right outside of a church, i knew i had to walk passed them and i didn't want to give them the satisfaction of ignoring me, so just to spite/shock them i walked straight into the church, stayed there for a few minutes then walked back out again.. has anyone ever done anything ridiculous or childish just to annoy them?

Why would anyone want to needlessly annoy someone else? It's childish, a waste of time and only serves to strengthen the JW conviction that ex-JWs are irritable people hell-bent on revenge.
Personally, I would go out of my way to HELP the JWs. Smile at them. Ask them how they are SINCERELY. They're HUMAN BEINGS just like you.

Bradley

WT speaks out on phone sex!! LOL!
by rebel8 ini was reading the "mobile phone" thread and then found the article below on the official wt web site.
i'm surprised they don't tell people to empty the garbage and polish their shoes when they get horny rather than engage in phone sex.
why the wt feels the need to comment on these topics is really beyond me, but it's good for a laugh.. http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2004/2/22b/article_01.htm.

Minimus,
True. That might be the case. Although, if so, I would call this article almost deliberate obfuscation since it does not explicitly mention phone sex as a judicial offense. I mean, if you are going to be a legalistic religion doesn't it make sense that your followers KNOW THE LAWS in detail?

More evidence that phone sex is no longer considered a judicial matter is in the following quote from the article:
Intimate talk that deliberately arouses immoral thoughts or that triggers masturbation is obviously unclean in Jehovah's eyes. And it could lead to even more serious violations of godly principles.
Obviously, if it could lead to more serious violations -- ie "fornication" -- it is not considered as serious -- ie "judicial." This is damn annoying since I was privately reproved for a total of two -- count 'em, TWO -- acts of phone sex a few years ago. I wrote about it in a thread of mine a while ago.

The interesting thing I find in that article is that it does not mention that an act of phone sex is -- or at least was at one time -- considered a judicial matter worthy of reproof or disfellowshipping. About four years ago there was a letter read to all servant bodies during their bi-annual meeting with the CO regarding this "new information."My guess is that there was a flood of reproofs and disfellowshippings, followed by a lot of questions from servants as to the legitimacy of branding this as a "gross sin." It seems that the WT has changed it's position based on the rather light counsel it gives in this article -- basically just tell your parents and POSSIBLY the elders. I would venture to say that they WT now views phone sex in the same league of sins as watching pornographic videos and masturbation. This would be a great project for someone to call the Society to find out what their current position is on the matter. Of course, one would have to be naked while calling...

Do conflicts/arguments strengthen friendships/relationships ?
by JH ini think that conflicts do strengthen friendships or relationships.
it sets boundary lines and defines what's acceptable from what's not acceptable.
naturally it will strengthen the friendship or relationship as long as both respect the boundary line of the other one.. or, maybe conflicts mean that things aren't going right and the relationship/friendship isn't going good, and that the tolerance level has become very low, and arguments errupt for little nothings.... .

Love is NOT a Human Need
by logansrun inone of the most difficult things for ex-jehovah's witnesses (heretofore referred to as ex-jws) to deal with is the loss of friends and family -- "loved ones.
" rejection hurts, and the pain seems to be very intense for some.
ex-jws seem validated to feel so awful since most humans naturally believe that love is a human need.

Homeless people and seniors have shortened lives without love.
That's only because they think they need it. If they gave up that silly idea they would live longer, no doubt. Besides, your example is simply anecdotal. You think it's true, but I have yet to see evidence of it's truth.

People don't live so long without love.
Would you care to expand on that thought, jgnat? Examples (besides the well-worn example of babies and little children)?
