I'd have to say that FDR was the all-around greatest President of the 20th Century (but he had his flaws, of course).

So sad to die this way, my thoughts go out to all you Americans you have lost a great man.
JFK was a great man. His brother Bobby even better. Oh, wait...
I often wonder, was it by his firm stand against communism, that communism in USSR fell?
Or, perhaps it fell of it's own accord? Most analysts now know the US overestimated Soviet power for DECADES. And, as a side effect of the REAGEN LED nuclear build-up we have more WMD than ever before, and in more nations than ever before. Thanks.
What a lovely wife Nancy was to him, wish I could find a Nancy!
Just say "no." Brilliant.

Yes bis. I'm not a Redumblican.

Dan,
Do you honestly believe a PBS documentary about the man -- in which many family members were voluntarily interviewed -- is going to bring out and highlight the man's faults? Or the ramifications of his nuclear buildup? Or the terrorist campaigns he sanctioned?
He was one of the phoniest presidents we've ever had, in part because he could fool himself so well. It's always sad to see someone ill and then die. But I think we can do without the man's "legacy."
Bradley....who knows he's going to get slammed for this. Ah well. It's been a while since I ruffled some feathers!
i can't.
in the few times i have prayed since leaving the dubs i notice i catch myself -- "dear heavenly god jeh----......" there's just so much emotional baggage connected to the name.
i wish to leave it behind altogether.. b.
Good point, seattleniceguy.
Just to show there is nothing "metaphyscial" about my/our disgust for the name "Jehovah" and that the "demons" haven't got us, consider this: I never feel this repulsion when I hear the word God, the name Jesus Christ or even the name Yahweh! It's nothing more than the neuro-linquistic programming of a group that uses the medivil scribal error for the name of the Hebrew God ad nauseum.

Ona,
An answer from an infinite God cannot be so easily dismissed
But, it can be dismissed. And that is free will.
B.
you think dubs are wacky?
you think islam is a "peaceful" religion?
the crap below which is straight from the hadith makes fred franz look like mother teresa, einstein and aristotle combined.
I always thought Sufi Muslims were kinda cool
i can't.

Ona,
Not to step in the middle of your lively discussion with FMZ, but you said:
If "God" directs (nudges) us, then it's no longer our own free will at work, but "Him" working His way through us.
I don't think that God answering prayers impacts free will at all. From your free will you ask for assistence, much as you would a friend or parent. If God/friend/parent helps you, does that mean your free will was somehow breached? I think not.
Or if God or the Force or Obi-Wan-Kanobi impact your life without your asking, there still is your reaction to the event which is free.

on getting back from the dallas apostafest i was able to see the new release from saturday's convention program that my mother attended.
it's a 32 page brochure entitled, "keep on the watch!
" with the subtitle, "for what?
Well, I see this thread took a turn for the wacky.

has anyone ever had opportunity to study the writings and ideas of christian theologian john hick?
i've been reading one of his books entitled "god has many names" which is a radical and thought-provoking work advocating the idea that all of the world's great religions (christianity, judaism, islam, hinduism, buddhism) are in some way "inspired" by god and lead to him/her/it (hick refers to this entity as the "eternal one").
hick was raised in a non-religious enviornment, was initially inclined towards theosophy but later became a conservative christian in the presbyterian church.
LA Big Dog,
John Hick is from Great Britain. I have no idea if he was (or is) a member of the Church or any of it's particular sub-denominations to which you refer.
I did not say that he was a conservative Christian because he was/is a Presbyterian. I simply said he at one time was conservative in the Presbyterian Church. There was nothing in my post misleading at all, as far as I can see.
